akwardsauce, I hate to tell you that is very nice compared to some of the ghetto setups including some of my own. I guess you haven't seen a vapor lung yet...go check it out;)

That's how I have mine set-up with my small bubbler .
But I like your diffusing method , I'll have to give it a try .
BTW , I just prop my solo on my split level desk part , to take the weight off .
Water vaping is awesome , at ' ghetto ' or ' Rodeo Drive ' .

fyi if u just used more scrunched up screens, u could prolly eliminate the glass beads totally. if u do go the beads route, id suggest not getting the smallest micron ones like the yellow ones cuz theyre so light that ull see a few of em floating at the top of the h2o/stuck to the sides/a pain to clean if they spill, etc...go for the slightly bigger ones that sink. haha ghetto way or rodeo dr...or ghetto circle...

ya ive heard of the lung...kind of like a "waterfall" bong or "reverse gravity" bong...definitely doesnt look like my 1st choice in my imagination...

another thing i did is used white out correction tape to go over the word "heat" on the solo (easily removable by scratching it off if you change ur mind). this is all in advanced preparations for someone to find a silicone "sleeve" to fix it with the smoke buddy...i just know theres gonna be a "flashlight stealth transportation hack" coming up soon...we need like a condom or something to hold them together...i really think the average person would just think its a flashlight that doesnt work (i got a bunch of those laying around!)

thats all the info i can contribute to fc concerning the solo as of now i think...other than im really diggin it.

anyone got a link to the users manual? i didnt get a copy...is there like a pdf or something somewhere? the one on the wiki goes to their manufacturers website & they dont even have it on the solo website or anything like under support, faqs, etc.

what im pretty much looking for is how to manipulate the buttons & stuff other than turning it on/off...

UNRELATED:
i just got an "fc trophy" for 25 likes! its so funny how much fc has changed since i last used to post regularly!...wow im kind of proud of how much it has grown! unless all these stats were things i never noticed before but i doubt it...

I want to get another stem for my solo that is unbreakable. Knowing how clumsy I am I don't feel too great about only having a glass stem. I'm going through the thread still and something may show up, but I would definitely appreciate any recommendations for wood/rubber/plastic/whatever stems!

If you read the last two pages you would have seen ed's stem which is wood. It is ed tnt he has a thread here and is a member.

Ok another ghetto thing then you may or may not know is the ghetto bubbler. It is where you put water or spit under your tongue and put the stem in it to work as your bubbler. It does work good luck:rofl:

HAHAHA now thats a new one to me...u, lady, get the ghetto-einstein medal!!!

ya as a dude, a general rule i prefer is to not stick the tube that far in my mouth...no judgement on dudes that do...just bring ur own stem if u vape @ my house!

yo exit, u could prolly get one of those stealth vape stems (that connect into a drinking straw so u can vape out of a to go cup...take one of those stems that taper down and jam it into a silicone whip & that could be less prone to breakage...

hey if you guys do end up rigging up something thats like a safe stainless steel stem that doesnt get too hot to the touch (like some kind of nice stem material piece), lemme know cuz i want in. basically something thats not breakable like glass (for travel), but soakable in iso (so not wood) is what im looking for. could be a nice stem to stow away on airplane rides & take on vacation etc since the stem would be cleanable (iso costs like $1.00 anywhere in the US & even cheaper prolly worldwide - or just use vodka!)...would go good with the flashlight/smokebuddy disguise, wink, wink...

ed said that the nylon zap stems arent safe on the solo cuz the temp is much higher on the solo, but teflon may be do-able. i know someone on fc will come up with brilliant ideas for a versatile stem & a flashlight disguise...fc people are really smart

I did see that but was just wondering about what else was there. I'm right now on page 530 working up. Is there anything that uses a material like the NO2 rubber pipe? Sorry if that's a stupid question, still new to stem based vapes!

yo exit, think about that idea i posted in my last post (i edited it a lil later)...but its still partially glass.

and instead of the flashlight hack, i was thinking i could say that my solo is a portable battery pack (like the things that charge up ur ipad when ur away from home)...but then u gotta explain the smokebuddy...i dont have a reply for that one yet...it looks like a grenade & i used my sisters black nailpolish to cover the smokebuddy branding on it.

so ill use the portable battery pack excuse for the solo if needed & anyone got ideas for an excuse for the smokebuddy? anything innocent?

then all i need is a stem thats soakable in iso & stronger than glass & im all set for my solo needs...

but seriously, whats the reason to put "smoke buddy" on the device twice!?!?!?? isnt it supposed to be for hiding the smell of smoke? and i never got that either, cuz lets say ur smoking a cig indoors & keep blowing out the smokebuddy, the lit cig is still burning & stinking up the room! so someone picks up your smokebuddy & is like "hmm whats this for?" wtf can u say? so i had to put like 8422398 layers of nailpolish ontop of their logo since its about as embossed as the himalayas...& i can still read it when i focus on that spot

...anyways...

akwardsauce,
can anyone comment on the different types of PVHES stems (i.e. regular vs. shorty, standard vs. turbo). Are they really all that different?

can anyone comment on the different types of PVHES stems (i.e. regular vs. shorty, standard vs. turbo). Are they really all that different?

Shorty has a smaller herb chamber, turbo has one big hole in the stem while standard has the same 4 holes at the stock stem...I prefer the regular standard the best ;)

m0sh,
I meant in terms of performance, do you notice a difference? Is the shorty more efficient? Does the turbo have noticeably more airflow?

I don't think the shorty improves anything but the turbo providers more airflow...and IMO too much airflow...I think the normal one is the perfect balanced ... this vape was designed to have a restricted airflow.

Hello,
I am a newbie here, but Arizer Solo have some time. Unfortunately, it happened to me that the bottom plastic is damaged. I need to get this part even quietly partially damaged. Already have devised a method for repairing. I made replacement metal bottom on CNC that fits perfectly, but my damaged part is unusable. Anybody got some damage this great device?

Unfortunately you've got a serious problem, one many of us have faced I'm sure. The 'back two' screws are not well supported, mine started there, but even the front are frail. This part was never intended to take much stress I think. Normally it only has to hold the insert up against gravity with friction helping.

The problem is that piece makes the bottom, front panel and most of the internal support. It's the backbone of the unit basically. Replacing it requires complete (and I mean complete) disassembly. More over, I seriously doubt Solo will sell you another as it carries the serial number.....even if they offered normal service spares (like the seal around the stem), which they don't appear to.

I see (and in my case, saw) two possible routes. If you have access to the machine tools (it seems you have) you can make a bottom cap with a hole for venting and another for charging with four holes to match the broken plate and use longer screws to secure it below the broken piece. A clamp plate if you will.

Or you can get some "plastic repair epoxy" and carefully rebuild the broken tabs as I did. This is what I used, pretty amazing stuff, bonds well to most plastics (including this one it seems) and has considerable strength. None of my repairs has failed. You have to work fast with this stuff (a few minutes 'pot time') but it sets fast and hard. It's easy to file at the 10 minute or so point. I used 'Scotch Tape' to confine the glue, poking it in well with a toothpick.

Good luck with it.

or one of these...mine looks a lil different (slimmer) but ive even plugged my laptop, iphone/ipad charger, my old DB vape, livescribe pen, etc. into it on long trips (my apple cord charger is regularly plugged into this 24/7)...

While useful, I'm not sure how it relates to my suggestion. This is another place to plug a PA into, right? Not a PA to plug into something.

If the goal is to charge in you car, no supply or adapter except a common 'car cord' (a few bucks) and the $1.50 adapter above will work 'better' (cheaper and more efficiently) I think. If the goal is a PA in the car I think other solutions (a down regulator) are better as I said in a prior post on the matter.

For instance, I think this four dollar one will do the job:
https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_2158127_-1

I haven't tried it, since I already own three such cords that came with various chargers I own that use the common format of a '12 Volt Wall Wort' feeding the charger unit. Basically what Solo sells (with the correct connector so no adapter is needed). Using this will probably double your efficiency (longer car battery life) since you won't be converting 12 VDC to 110 VAC to 12 VDC loosing maybe 20% or more with each change?

Perhaps I'm missing something here?

Summary for Order

Excellent. Good luck with it. I've somehow misplaced the one I got (all I can find is it's 9VDC brother that doesn't cut it since it's too high a voltage). But it worked fine before I started using other schemes for PA mode and lost track of the sucker. Currently I'm using a 12 Volt supply feeding a regulator with a switch on it to change between charge and PA mode....only one unit for both functions. But that's not something you can order and plug together.....yet......I hope Pipes has his ears on for this one, I smell a useful gadget.

conversation with ed about the inserts:

Hey ed,
what about the inserts for your wood solo stems? dreamerr says that you offer those on FC, but i didnt see any mentioned on your website...
thanks again!

Good morning, do you mean the SS bushings? I normally dont offer those to be purchased, I have sold a couple here and there in the past but am unable to do so at the moment. All I have now are spoken for. I am having some more made and can probably get you one in a few weeks. Are you thinking of making your own stem for it? Holla back at me and lets talk more about it!
Thank you,

hey ed,
its not a super priority to get a new stem for the solo, but ive been an fc member for a few yrs now and (at least when i joined) it seemed like when you post a problem up, people will come up w some solution/ideas to get you on the right track

so really my only thing is that i want some kind of stem that is:

1. safe at these temps (1st & foremost priority)

2. non-glass & durable to be dropped or thrown into a pocket/backpack without worry (& hopefully capped just like your stems/stock stems)

3. able to be soaked in iso/fully cleaned (so smells and gunk dont buildup)

im not actively trying to make one myself, but if someone comes up w a solution to these 3 things, that would be awesome. if it were available for purchase (at a reasonable price) or someone comes up with a "hack" that anyone could go to home depot & make themselves, that would be perfect.

keep me posted if you have any ideas.

thanks again, ed!

Stock stems are fine!

My stock stems are flush and block the heater jets but once I got the o-ring from planetvape i can easily pull the stem out a tiny bit so its not blocked and it wont immediately fall back down. A great solution to anyone else thats having this problem

sauce, that is great so I wasn't totally imagining some type of insert. I just thought it was glass which would still be basically protected by the wood but ss is good too and solves your issue.

yup unless its a pain to remove & replace it into the wood exterior...im sure there will be a solution to this soon enough...just gotta be patient...

im curious if ed has any ideas about the stem i was talking about with the 3 points i put in color. is there anyone else who would be interested in a stem like that?

Does anyone know good coupon codes to use on puffitup.com for the solo and space case grinders?

Im trying to buy the solo a two piece space case (titanium) and four piece space case (also titanium)

It's looking like its going to be around 270.00

Anyway to get it under 250?

Solo160 for 160$ solo
PA for solo with power adapter for 190. If you're going to be using it heavily inside I suggest the adapter plus its only an extra $30..

Edit: the SC Titaniums aren't actually titanium so you could always just go with the grinder the solo comes with and save money that way :)

Two quick things. Still reading through the thread and soaking up wisdom. I apologize if these are already answered.

1) does anyone have the Solo charger that lets you charge and use it at the same time? If so, can you let me know either what the power specs on it are, just take a photo of the specs, or (ideally) show what it outputs on a multimeter?

2) should I be worried if the orange light next to "1" goes between flashing and staying solid while charging? Low power draw perhaps? (Hehe, it went to 2 now. Guess its OK Haha)
