The HI

Here is a VVPS some of us have had good success with:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310411225398

I own a couple and have not had any problems with them. You'll need a power cable as well to go from the DC output to the HI.

My Jameco power adapter (same as that was sold with the PD) is at about 14.3vac without load so it is too hot-- combusts after one second so the only method I could use with it is the dipping method (dip, remove, dip, remove). Tried another power adapter at 12.3vdc and its much better, but is still able to combust sometimes as I try to milk the last of the tube and leave it in too long, so I understand why 11.8v would be the sweet spot.

I'm interested in getting this VVPS-- I'm not sure which cable is right however. Do you have a link or the dimensions I should look for in a cable?

I had to build my own cable.. You'll need a tattoo power supply cable with mono plug on one end and a 2.1mm dc connector on the other end. Hope you can solder... : )

Check out the following thread for some good info:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/regulated-vs-unregulated-power-supplies-for-log-vapes.4918/

PS - You should not be running 14.3VDC (you said AC, but that is not correct) through your HI. I cannot remember max VDC Alan recommends off top of my head, but 12.3 is more like it.

Some adapters give out VAC and some VDC-- on my multimeter the VDC adapter has a stable voltage while the VAC will have a constantly alternating voltage. If there is something I'm not understanding correctly here then let me know. Most 12v adapters on the market are VDC, the Jameco is listed as VAC.

The Jameco has always been this high, I think they were trying to make sure it always provides at least 12v no matter the load. I had bought two of them when my first one fried and they both read out the same voltage, and I remember the first being the same way.

Thanks for the link to the thread! I have no problem soldering to create my own cable.

UPDATE:
I believe I'm more interested in that dimmer mentioned at the start of that thread you linked to, so I can reduce the output of my 3 power adapters I already have. I don't expect my HI to ever short out my Jameco power adapters like my rattling PD did, so I can get the most use out of them that way.

Here is a great vid from an old friend of the HI in action with an EFS piece!!

Interesting - I had just been commenting to Alan in an email that I started really hitting the sweet spot with the HI by treating it like a VHW or other heat wand, rather than as a log vape. And I always move my VHW in the exact same way the HI is being moved in this video.

Tried it myself and it works as beautifully with my Sith HISaber as with my VHW 3. With the VVPS (thanks for the cords, Alan) and gentle rotation, I'm consistently getting thicker vapor than with my Cloud, with no combustion.

arf777 - Glad to hear the cord is working well with your VVPS. You have the force working very well with your Sith HIsaber.

mvapes - Good to hear from you. All is doing well. Getting closer to your name.

Jam - Great to hear you are finding just the right voltage with no combustion.

Toros23 - 12.4 to 12.5 is about as high as you would want to go but with a higher draw speed it is possible to go a little higher.

Had someone ask about a stainless steel / silicone roasting tube combination so I decided to make one. It is a 5/16" dimple tip SS roasting tip inserted into a 3.5" long piece of 5/16" ID high temp silicone tubing (the same size as most whip systems). It works so well and is completely unbreakable, that I decided to add it to my option of roasting tubes. I am going to charge $6 for this roasting tube combination. It will work in any log style vaporizer that accepts 5/16" SS roasting tubes.
If a short piece of 10mm glass tubing is inserted into the other end of the silicone tube, it will then fit nicely into a 14mm glass connection and act as a glass mouthpiece if you don't like the feel of silicone on your lips.

I'm in the zone using my own weird set-up, a turbo tube slid into a U tube. But I am still struggling with getting a decent pull from either of the two beautiful WonGs I got from Alan (wood on glass, matching my HI, one ebony matching the body and one red ivory matching the bottom of it). I either don't get much visible vapor through them, or, when I turn up the voltage, I get combustion. Still looking for a happy medium with both these and my old CRZ stems.

At the same time, though, with the Turbo tube, the U tube, and the variable voltage power supply, I'm getting thicker and thicker vapor, with no combustion at all. On most vaporizables, beats my Cloud . Takes more finesse, but that just means the best vapor is had only by true JedHIs :brow:.

arf777 - Your JedHI skills improve each day. Try loading and grinding a little less for the SS roasting tubes. I am finding it works better for me that way. Another technique I am using is to angle the SS tip into the HI center tube so that you just hear air whistling. It provides for good air flow / mixing.

I was cleaning out the silicone on my SS roasting tube mouthpiece that I posted above, when I thought about a way to keep the silicone cleaner and also my lungs. I placed a small plug of cotton fiber into the silicone before inserting the SS tip. The cotton plug acts as a filter to retain the larger particles just like a filter on a cigarette. There is only a slight pressure drop across the cotton. When the cotton gets too dirty / plugged, I place it in a roasting tube and vaporize the oil. I did the same thing with my Turbo Tube and it works equally well. It will be so easy to keep my tubes and lungs cleaner now. The water will stay cleaner longer too.

This is what i woke up to on Monday:)

from Alan

I have decided that today is the day that I cut into those two jems of wood that you sent me. I have finally got to your name on the list.

Damn fine cherry pie Alan, Im sure it will be a good sign to all the future JedHis waiting in the wings.

I will hopefully post photos when all is ready.

I reentered the list in March 2012 as soon as i had recieved my first Hi.

I can t say anymore that hasn t already been said about the Hi.

Let the music play:nod:

Haha, This little device got as popular as I predicted. I regret not picking up one of the firsts -.-

Alan, I would love to get one of these. I no longer have my CRZ's and I'm using far too much medicine via combustion.

I have a question though.
Will I be able to 'roast' my product to a nice even brown? I was never able to achieve such a thing from my rockzaps.

chib, I think you will find that with the HI saber and a VV ps, you can achieve 'any' degree of browness your heart desires!
