The Baker: By Vaporblunt

The VaporBlunt team is back in the lab, this time to work on our first plugin unit "The Baker". Reaching temperatures up to 700 degrees, The Baker has the potential to efficiently vaporize all flower and essential oil blends effortlessly. Initial tests show we have the ability to reach 700degrees within 5 minutes, with 370-400 being reached with 160 seconds.

Other than that, there are very few details about The Baker that are set in stone. We have an overall concept that we would like to stick with and we would like to open this discussion up to the community for your valuable feedback at this point, which is a first for our normally tight lipped team. The target release date for The Baker is November 10 so I have challenged our team to come up with the best and most creative ideas that we can before Aug 10 (The cutoff day if we expect to sell on Nov 10).

The general concept of The Baker will revolve around different glass attachments that transform the base and different water tools that attach at the whip end to transform the inhalation methods. Not limited to only these, we have signed off on the concept of attachments for flower, EO and a 3 hose
Hookah style adapter. As for the whip attachments, we have a freezable glycerin tube in the works as well as chubbler style whip attachment on the board so far. We look forward to any and all feedback regarding this concept.

Here's a few things we have all agreed on so far.
* Digital display with 5 preprogrammed ideal temperature settings*
* Titanium insert for EO to eliminate health concerns @ 700 degrees*
* 5 year warranty*
* break away cord* (think laptop)
* Simple, single button use*
* no bigger than an iPod docking station or computer modem* (aprx 4" wide by 3" high is our template)

With that said, I gladly open this thread to any and all comments. I'm sure we will run a contest or two over the course of this process, so we might as well get one started now!!! The FC Member or members who gives us the best input and ideas shall forever have their screen name immortalized in a "shout out" on our instruction manual as well as the right of being official testers when we release test units. To avoid hurt feelings I will state upfront that I will judge this tightly to avoid feeling like I should send every poster a unit. Exceptional thought and input will be rewarded though, I promise.

Sweet...I love having the opportunity to contribute early on! Thanks for bringing us into the design process.

So far...5 year warranty is great. break away cord is something that has been asked for on a lot of models...nice! The size sounds insanely small...you guys still have your portable design hats on. I like simple use, but more than one button is fine too. Finally, I think a five temp setting desktop model would be the first of its kind and a mistake. All of my plug ins are either single setting like the logs or completely variable with a knob or digital display. If the market is really going toward the oils and legal herbs then limiting the user to five temps would be a big mistake. Let the user decide at what temp to vape his different materials.

I know it's a pain in the ass, but some initial concept design sketches would be helpful.

Sounds good TRVB. Something I think would be interesting would be to make it modular with two docks, one for plug-in and another battery-powered dock for portability. I am a big fan of log vapes but sometimes want to pick it up and go to another location for a short period of time without having to plug in again. I was looking at the MiniVap for this reason at one point.

@TRVB - WoW! What are you going to make it out of to be able to withstand 700°F when running 24/7?

Also, what type of temperature control and temperature sensing do you plan to use?

I love that idea and is a big draw of the MV. This unit is going to be doing oils, however, and I'll bet current batt tech will stifle the oils on the road thing...maybe a batt that can be used for flowers on the road?

I was not really thinking of taking it on the road, what I was thinking was just being able to go to another room or out into the yard for a session. Taking it on the road sounds truly portable and not sure if TRVB would want a competing product for their portables. Size would not be all that important since it would not need to be pocketable, so perhaps with the right battery pack you could accomodate flowers and concentrates?

Sounds really interesting. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be involved in the design

The only other thing that I could think of at this point is to give it bluetooth or wi-fi capabilities. That way you could start it up or shut it down with your phone,tablet,etc..when you are not directly at the unit. And for the actual temp to be within a 3~5 degree accuracy of the displayed temp.

If it's possible, have the airpath sealed off from the electonics. Something I would like to also see on the next Pinnacle as well. Use only top quality medical grade parts. Health concerns are why most of us are here and I personally will pay extra for top quality parts.

The shell will be PES, it's the insulation that is key. Something (I have a few ideas but right now I'm using wood for the proof of concept, obv wood won't work) must keep the 700 degrees from reaching the PES, which is safe to 500 I think. I will invite my engineer in on this discussion when he returns after his much need vacation next Tuesday.

This is something we are considering as a "Baker Pro" option. We wouldn't release all units this way because it will drive the price up a lot I think

Out of 100's of hours of meetings no one has ever said this. I am intrigued

This is sounding like it's going to be a great product!

I agree with the idea of adding some sort of connectivity, like bluetooth or wifi, but you could also potentially use USB to connect it to another device that would do the controlling (eg., maybe something like X10?). Or, a bit lower-tech to accomplish the goal of starting heat-up time while you're not there---maybe add a clock/timer so that you can set it to start up on it's own at a pre-set time?

(edit: anyone else having deja vu about coming up with these ideas for a new vape? :ko: )

This sounds awesome with a break away cord (im assuming a battery too) it is easier to take from one place to another for those of us who like to get out and party with some friends. I would love to see some kind of bag filling with this as well so like i mentioned before with a group of friends you can just fill up a couple of bags and pass them around. The size sounds extremely small which is a plus for me because when people come over who dont know i use herbs they will not notice it as much if i just have it sitting on the table because its not big and bulky. I loved the portables your company has thought up and produced so this is a huge leap for you guys to get into another market cant wait to see the design in a couple of months!

I'm loving everything so far, and my only real detraction, would be if this vape could only be used on the preset temps...Now, I could just be reading wrong, and maybe it will have full variable temp, in addition to some commonly used temp presets? (think EQ vape, variable temp, but preset temps as well using remote.)

As far as things that I would really like to see in this vape...I would be very put off if the airpath wasn't completely separate from the electronics, etc...I would love to see an air inlet, and know that it's a sealed path from there to my mouth

I would also like to see the ability to connect this unit without a whip to other glass pieces, via some type of 14mm or (preferably) 18mm ground Glass On Glass joint.

I'm really digging the pull away power cord! I wish my Cloud had that!

Glad to see another vape being built with the help/input of our wonderful community!

The thing is, a lot of people who claim to have full digital control are full of shit. Without slandering any other companies, there aren't to many that we found that actually do what they say. Even if they give you control of every 5 degrees sometimes they only have 4 or 5 real temps they achieve. I wouldn't feel comfortable advertising it as no presets in less that was actually true

I don't want anything untrue. I only own a couple vapes, and to my knowledge, two of them operate with full variability. I have my VapeXhale Cloud, which seems to adjust temperature with every little movement of the knob. I can vape stuff at a low temp, and get more out of it throughout the temp range. Second, my supreme vape, which is torch controlled, can produce anything from nothing to combustion, and anything in between.

I never asked for you to point out any other company that can do it, I just would like to have you say yes or no, can this vape be set to more than 5 temperatures, and if not, would it really be that hard to do? I would be OK with 5 temps; I enjoy my Pax by Ploom with just three temps, but I only ever use low and medium. I would just prefer to get an answer to that, and my other comments/interests, rather than being told that what we all know...Out of the vast sea of vaporizers, not many provide super accurate temps, let alone much variety in setting...

Not trying to be rude, and I apologize if I come across that way. I just feel as though I was given a defensive reply, that didn't answer my post, let alone address more than one part of my post.

Thank you though, for being here on the forum! I still look forward to see what you'll say/bring to the table!

:peace:

Good one Tweek.

I was not being defensive, I was being honest. That was our thought process of how we came to think 5 settings might be the way to go. By saying that "I can't slander" I mean I actually can not, I would being violating forum rules if I said company X false advertises" not to mention I'd be opening pandora box. I know you didn't ask me to, I was just offering the reason for my vagueness.

Anyway, the point of this is discussion so we accomplished that. I think engineering will be able to offer a better explanation as to the advantages of our plan. Nothing is unchangeable though except the name!

trvb...would a true spectrum of variable temp control be beyond this unit or is that something for engineering to answer?

I think it would be nice if user serviceability was built into the device for when the 5yr warranty expires. That way we could just order parts and perform the repair with out shipping it back.
i.e. Quick and easy disconnects for the heater, digital display, power control board etc.

I do think that is a really great warranty period. Just thinking in the long long term.

Maybe the integration of your flavor tips with the whip delivery , especially thinking of this for the 3 person hooka adapter.

The one on the right is up my alley, I would most likely turn the K backwards. I have no idea why I like to turn things backwards, but it makes sense in my twisted mind
