Its sooooooo weird though that people such as your self have never had it happen! That is what I cant fathom! BTW how do you find ur VC and your VG? I have never seen these two in the 'flesh or 'wood' :)

Yes, it's weird, maybe you could try to wait a bit longer in betweens draws. So it gives the straw to cool down.

I love my Cano and being able to walk around with the balloon, but I feel I need to buy another vape, because of the noise and sometimes I wish I had a whip and I could hit some vape bongs.

The VG, I like it, but a bit disappointed, it takes way too much gaz, and you need good lungs. I combust every once in a while coz I feel I did not get everything out of the bowl. And half of my friends can't use it. But one of my friends who found the sweet spot and does not have a vape want to buy one.
I actually think of selling it to him and spend a little more for the supreme.

Cauz finally with the VG you are really dependent on gaz. Maybe I got it wrong, but I use one lighter in one night. ok, it was a long night with maybe 10 to 15 bowls, but still.

:( I still must be doing something wrong....mechanically it seems to be working fine....it heats up fine.....I'm getting good draws, I think, ......I kept at it for a good 20 minutes or so....but all I got was a slight buzz...so back to combusting I went......:(

I'll still keep trying to figure this out but so far............:(

hmmm, if it's your first vape and if you're a hardcore combuster the Iolite might not really suit you for a first & main vape Imho. I know it's not enough for me on a daily basis for example. And I use it only as a vape for outside when I go shopping or in a bar or short weekends without electricity.

Maybe just give it more try and some time to get use to vapor.
Also, if you pack the bowl, you should be able to get hits for like 30 min at least.
Do you take long and slaw draws ? and let it rest in between draws ?

Also keep in mind that the Iolite is not able to take everything out of the plant.
Usually I keep my ABV from the Iolite and use them and get a couple of balloons with my volcano on higher temps.

Hows everyone getting on with their iolites? I've had one now for about 2 months and its been a learning curve thats for sure. As someone who used to combust, it took some getting used to the buzz the iolite gives but I love it now.

The best part of this vape is the stealth, if your hitting it regularly when its on then theres hardly any smell to the environment and thats the biggest factor for me.

Im getting used to knowing when the buds done..I think. Usually half a bowl will last me maybe 10 hits before you start getting that weird taste. Also find that there is more smoke if you keep going after this and it starts to get quite harsh. Is then when its done then??

Ive not had any problems at all with it so far, its pretty easy to clean and load. Ive got the metal ss threads and so far have had no problems, the only time I undo the stem is when it comes to cleaning it.

Love mine! Before I got a bag vape I really loved it for its ability to roam around my house with it in use. Now I can use a bag for that, but when outside, especially out in nature, which will happen more as we move out of winter, it really is the tits! I love that it doesn't need any electricity and runs on butane, so when I go camping or driving or fishing it works and is easy to refill. Speaking of refill, how easy is the 3-second refilling?!

I used to think that loading that little chamber was a pain because you had to carefully shake herb into it, but now I have a 5-piece grinder/sifter with a catch area over a screen and find it really easy to just turn the bowl/chamber upside down and suck on the straw like a vacuum cleaner pulling herb up into the bowl. Its not too bad, could be worse. You can't do that with the MFLB (I don't think.)

Some people complain that it gets too hot when holding, but you just need to know how to hold it: keep your fingers on the rubber pads on either side, or on the smooth plastic, but not on the fins - point the fins out away from your wrist. Other people have said that the plastic stems break, but Oglesby and Butler have done a great job with their customer service for me. I sent them an email back in December about my plastic straw breaking and within about 3 weeks I had 3 free replacements with metal threads for FREE! Speaking of plastic, some people may not know this, but the plastics that are used in the Iolite are well researched. This is from their website :

The external plastic used is Ultem 1000, which is FDA and United States Pharmacoepia Class VI compliant. Ultem 1000 is a thermoplastic polyetherimide high heat polymer designed by General Electric. Ultem 1000 is also commonly machined into parts for reusable medical devices, electrical/electronic insulators and a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures.
The internal plastics are made from DuPont (tm) Automotive Zenite liquid crystal polymer, which also has a very low thermal conductivity and is FDA approved for use in repeated food-contact applications. Zenite liquid crystal polymer is also used in auto ignition fuel handling, ovenware and the aerospace industry and for fuel or gas barrier structures.

I think we have a winner!

OK... so I do have a few remarks.

1) on my variable temp vapes I can crank the temp up to 385 and get more use out of my used herb from the Iolite. This means the Iolite isn't as efficient as a vape that can go to a higher temperature. I wish O&B would offer the option for a higher temp bi-metal thermostat, at say 390 degrees F.
On the other hand I understand that having a higher temp thermostat may require the use of more fuel to maintain the higher temp, and therefore a fill will not last as long, and also that a really hot direct-draw vape may be a bit too much and may actually put off some people from using it. So I would say that keeping this in mind, there should at least be the option to upgrade the thermostat to a higher temp.

2) The Iolite comes with a whole bag full of neat tools to help maintain it. It comes with extra screens, and little brass push tools and spare parts and extra straw extensions so you can make it longer... but what they really miss is a brush. I find that being able to brush out the bowl with a brush is invaluable to the maintenance I do between uses. I took one out of a beard trimming kit, and it fits well in my Iolite pouch pocket. It is black, with black plastic-like bristles. The head of it is wider than the bowl, but the width of the bristles is narrow enough that it fits inside the metal bowl, and the bristles are long enough that the head doesn't need to fit down into the bowl. On the other side of the handle (which is about 5.5cm) there is an angled end, good for scraping out crevices at the bottom of the chamber. A brush needs to be included.

3) It would be so great if they would include a pre-filter for the butane. Because of the micro precision engineered spray valve in this thing, you need to use really clean butane. This can sometimes be a problem to acquire, especially if you are bringing your iolite with you on a plane, because you cannot bring anything like a can of butane with you, or even anything filled with butane, so you may find yourself shopping for butane at local stores at your destination, and local stores don't always carry premium butane. Even the premium butane seems to have some impurities when you reach the end of a can. A pre-filter may eventually clog and cause other problems, but perhaps it would help too.

4) The one last thing that I'm going to mention has been suggested elsewhere; it could really use a view window for fuel level. I constantly find I am refilling before I'm empty because I don't want to go out and find I've run out of fuel when I'm without a can of butane. This can introduce air bubbles into the Iolite which may cause some stuttering on the catalytic converter. A view window would let me judge how close I am to empty. This would really improve the only other shortcoming that I've seen griped about. (besides the straws breaking)

Great! DuPont made their money and their patent on Lycra by designing the Nazi Uniforms They are responsible for the 'classic' gestapo long leather trench coat (They were nice looking uniforms, but its a French co!! (Close your ears Raf lol!;)How do you spell, collaborator? vichey france? morally bankrupt? or quisling?!!! )
As its an irish co that have been trading a while they might be patners since ww2!!! (I hope not - for let he be judged by the company he keeps, the enemies he has made and the women he has bed!)
It is true what you say about the stealth the temp the butane and the great kit they included BUT for some the straw issue is ridiculous and appear to be pure luck of the draw (or straw - ohhh that was bad soz)(I for example have now been swapped out so that I am on my 3rd the have sent me countless free bowls straws and I have bought countless metal tipped straws, they always just fall apart (I actually watched my 2nd Iolite with a brand new bowl and metal tip after 1 careful hit I put it on the table - carefully - and was sitting back looking at it when about 15 seconds later (the unit was off a cooling) I watched the straw collapse!!!! I was so shocked I didn't think to take a pic, (but their returns believed me as they had heard of it before!!!!) of it but it show there is a SERIOUS flaw) some times 2 a day some times 1 will last 2 months , I only have short sessions when I am out (or I did until the straw problem made me retire it for a photo lab gonna get a LB what I should have done in the first place!)

oh i don't work for o&h but i do go to school and found that your post was historically inaccurate on all levels. first, after 1939, the gestapo were inclined to wear civilian clothing. i imagine this was mostly to hide in the open. so 'making money' off 'nazi uniforms' you describe as 'gestapo' with material that wasn't even made until almost 20 years later for the sole purpose of patenting said material seems, well, like a uneducated conspiracy. like microsoft was responsible for killing the jews. as far as any ties, you are aware that many companies had 'business links' prior, during, and after nazi control? gm comes to mind. just out of curiosity, how many catcher in the rye books and tin foil hats do you own?

you misunderstood me they were in a position to research Lycra because the money it had made clothing the entire GERMAN ARMY AIRFORCE AND NAVY with uniforms made strangely enough of hemp but it was a bit of topic so I did realise you wanted the history od DuPont Inc yes I am aware corporations are bastards ok? u off ur high horse yet bruv? Lol, My ears are wide open. We openly dealt with collaboration and what we did in France so it's no pb, each countries had its weak periods. (we even just did a movie about the french police collaborating with the nazis by raiding more than 13 000 jews in one night and then parked them in a stadium before sending them to death camps= the Vel' d'Hiv RoundUp code named Operation Spring Breeze).

At least we did not banned jews and blacks from parks until the 60s :D

Back to the Iolite, I really wonder how you succeed to melt that much straws.

i think i'm getting closer to mastering this thing now. after it's been filled with butane, i've been filling the chamber about a 1/4 of the way while the iolite heats up and once again after i cash the first bowl. i get a good hour session but i usually release the existing butane and refill for the next session. i found using the slotted tip with the butane and then aligning the holes before pressing keeps the butane from spraying until it is filled. takes like 3 seconds. i'm getting consistent hits and per 1/4 chamber fill, i get 10 or so smokey hits. but the second load seems better and i'm assuming it's because the iolite is nicely heated at that point. i think i'll start waiting 5 or so minutes before taking the first sip. it took a little bit to get used to the 'sipping' at the straw. after 2 1/4 bowls, i'm pretty damn lit. i'll have to peruse the previous posts and check out other methods people use. so far though, i haven't been let down. once you get into the ritual of things, it's just as easy as loading glass bowls. straws are running strong and the heating element is still shiny silver. it's only been 10 days but i love this goddamn thing!

Does anyone have an alternative contact for email to Ogelsby. My Iolite unit has stopped working, I sent them an email Monday, but only receive automated responses. I have only used Vector in it. After several months, it started to take longer and longer to ignite. When turned on, the gas hiss would start out softer than normal, eventually after 10 sec to a minute or more, the hiss would increase in volume, and it would then ignite. Then it became very slow to load with gas. Now, when you apply the gas to it, it does not fill at all. It will not purge when depressing the valve as there is presumably no gas/air inside it. Anyone know any fix / hack for this short of shipping it back? Thanks

That's good to hear. My only concern now with the Iolite is traveling by air with it in my luggage... I plan on leaving the new, unused unit in my checked bag when I'm flying out soon, but if I fly later, what are the chances I could lose it to a bag search? Even if I clean it?

Thanks if anybody has any insights.

For what it's worth...

I just flew two weeks ago. Cleaned my IO and emptied if of butane. I was on a domestic flight in the USA and had it in check in luggage with my toiletries. Went through fine coming and going. Not a question.

I did pack it with my e-cig stuff. At the very least, you'll have plausible deniability with such.

As in all things in our sport, don't travel with anything you wouldn't hesitate to toss.

On a side note, the IO seems to be actually working BETTER after a few months of usage. I'm noticing more and more clouds of vapor that I did when I first got it. Perhaps there is a "break in" period for these things? Maybe I'm just learning it better? Don't know, but the more I use it, the more I like it.

Good luck, safe travels.

EDIT - Oh yeah, I was flying Delta (bleh!)

I for one am glad to hear about this! At one point I was debating about buying SkypeOut points to reach CS.

Did anyone ever get a CO test done on the Iolite unit? Many pages ago there was a big debate about harmful CO emissions. I gave up on going through it all but I was curious if a consensus was ever reached and if a test was ever performed by anyone other than a consumer named "420" who was very concerned.

Unapproved commercial account.
I am loving my iolite. This thing has almost as much kick as my Extreme Q on the whip. Nothing beats a big fat bag though.

I recently quit smoking cigarettes after 20 years thats to the help of vaping on a Maverick 510 e-Cig. I am feeling awesome now, but I was still smoking lots of other herbs. About 1 month ago I purchased my first Vaporizer, the Extreme-Q. Within a couple of days of using my Extreme-Q exclusively to smoke herbs, the idea of rolling one up wasn't very appealing anymore. And what other choice to I have when I am in a hurry or out of the house? Then I found the iolite at my local hemp shop. Expensive, but worth every penny. Quick to load, quick to heat up. Very low odor when using indoors. Also, very cost effective for herb usage. I put in about a 1/4 gram of ground herb blend and my iolite is still kicking out vapor after 15 minutes. Lights on the first click virtually every time. Reaches proper vaping temp in about 45 seconds. However, my personal blend of herbs is best after about a 5 minute wait. Bottom line, it is amazing to not be worried about batteries or other power sources. It is so easy to bring a can of butane with you on a camping trip or something.

I can also use my iolite for vaping e-liquid from my electronic cigarettes.

cheers,

Glad to see you like your Io, I lend mine to a friend and begin to miss it.

E liquid is suppose to be vaped around 80C if i remember correctly, especially if you use VG, because above that temperature you release cancerous elements when using VG.
SO not sure it's the best idea.
