Iolite vaporiser

Have you vented lately ?

I find after a few refills I am now letting it run out, venting it and refill but only if I plan on not using it for a few hours. Has been lighting first time everytime which with my luck Im very happy about.

Sort of find the same thing , it will create air pockets if you dont totally drain it before you fill it. Also I dont know what kind of atmospheric pressure the have in Ireland , but I know in Canada I can only get about an hour out of a fill , never ever gotten close to 2 hours :2c:

I emailed iolite for the mouthpiece replacement before Christmas 2009, and I still haven't receive it. :mad:

I requested relacement stems before the holidays (thanks to this forum) - and received them in about 2-3 weeks - so perhaps it is not IOLITE that sucks...?

btw - been using the IOLITE for about 6 months (2nd model) - almost daily - and have had no issues whatsoever - other than it should be legal... :peace:

Did you send a photo of your broke mouthpieces?
Did they respond to your original email confirming that they would replace the mouthpieces?

If they did, then email them again to remind them of there obligation to get you up and running.
Best way to do that is, politely.

Is the Io-lite built solid enough to tap it/shake it lightly to mix up the herb?

BTW, did someone say they heat it up... then fill the bowl?
Doesn't it get too hot to open?

Haven't tapped it (looks around nervously), but I gently shake it when it's heating. My sessions generally last a total of 8 ignitions, 3 times a day. So, at ~4 shakes per ignition, thats 72 shakes/day, or about 7000 shakes since I've purchased it. And yes, it does seem to help get the herb more evenly toasted. So it will stand up to gentle shaking.

I've heard people say heat it up and then load the bowl. I load the bowl, fire it up and then let it heat for about 5 minutes before starting to hit it.

There really isn't a problem of vapor 'escaping', and you can always keep your finger over the stem.

Had to clean my Iolite today (the herb chamber). I connected the short mouthpiece, and then inverted the mouthpiece/herb chamber over a small jewellers vial and dripped 100% ISO through it until it ran clear. I then hooked up an aquarium pump to the mouthpiece and blew air through the mouthpiece/chamber. Rinsed with water and hooked up the aquarium pump for about 10 minutes (a lot of blackish particulate matter came out). Let it dry for a while, and tested the air draw (it was getting very hard to draw on the mouthpiece after 60+ days without cleaning), and it was back to day 1. Easy peasy. I was starting to pack bigger bowls because I had thought that I was building up a tolerance, but I put 0.1g finely ground bone dry herb in about 3.5 hours ago and I'm still flying.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but after seeing Dr. Hornby's studies I am curious as to what is going on with the iolite, is the 374F temperature enough to effectively remove the thc from the herb for proper inhalation?

I'm guessing if so this is different because of it's small heating area. Someone please explain!!
I'm trying to narrow down 2 things-1-what I am using in the iolite that is providing the buzz (I am a medical user)2-if not THC what is giving the buzz.

I haven't seen Hornby's studies. Don't even know who he is. However, I have owned and used over a dozen different vaporizers and can assure you that the iolite vaporizes and delivers THC. If it didn't, I think I would have noticed, since I've owned one since they hit the market. Don't recall anyone else complaining that the iolite just doesn't get them high either, assuming they have experience with vapor.

I own the iolite, currently my only vaporizer. I LOVE it.

374 F is great for proper thc delivery.

Also, you can save your already vaped material and make tinctures/edibles from them.. which I have only tried with the tincture.... Its amazing.

Would recommend that you finely grind your herbs for this device, and make sure its very dry. I usually grind up a gram or so and put in on my break up plate. Let it sit in the dark in my closet overnight, and by morning its nice and dry. (if it wasn't fully cured before)

Two weeks i've returned my broken iolite as the check list asked for, and no news from the company. I have sent 3 emails to the iolite support...their silence is deafening.:/
Did somebody know if they are overwhelmed by demand or neglecting customers?

I think its that it is just a small company.

I emailed them in december right before they went on break, and they got back to me in january with a direct replacement of the plastic stems (no email reply to my original).

I assume that wheels are turning behind the scene, you just can tell.

Oglesby & Butler (Iolite's mother company) is actually a large, respected, and well-established company that makes many butane powered tools (AFAIK).

However, the Iolite is the only product of its sort and is probably a bit to manage at times (hopefully never too much to manage IMO, as I hope to see future products :brow:

).

It's supposed to be good. Expensive though. Twice the price of Vector (xikar cans are only 100ml. Vector-320ml).

So, I read about 25 pages of this thread before I decided to get my iolite. I bought it, and I loved it. There were some quirks and some things that I had to figure out, but it was worth it.

So, that was 2 weeks ago. A couple of days ago, I was unscrewing the metal threaded piece from the herb chamber, and the threads separated from the mouthpiece. they now are stuck in the herb chamber, with the vaporize unusable.

I tried emailing their support, but have yet to hear anything. I would call, but I can't really afford to call Ireland.

The store I purchased it from won't take it back (of course), and they don't have spare parts.

So, any suggestions besides buying replacement parts myself (I just bought it 2 weeks ago, I shouldn't have to spend more money this soon).

Also, thanks for the forum, definitely helped me in my decision. Sorry this is my first post, I wish it would have been something else, but I am a little steamed.

Sorry you had to experience the #1 iolite problem. O&B really wants their resellers to handle warranty issues. This is the norm in Europe, and they don't like the fact that so many US dealers are in 'sell and abandon' mode. OTOH, with all the mouthpiece problems it's had, it's understandable that resellers don't want to mess with after sale problems.

Hate to say it, but unless you can get through to O&B and get them to send you a mouthpiece kit, your best bet is to get a 3 pack of mouthpieces from vapeworld-$15.

I was just hoping for some clarification , you said you just bought your Iolite new , did it come with totally plastic stems , or do the stems have metal threads , would love some input on the new generation stems ?

mine had the new metal threaded stem, but it is metal attached to plastic - the plastic broke away from the metal.
