That's awesome. I bet the cup acts as a sound insulator too.

EDIT: I broke my other mouthpiece. Does anyone know if iolite resolved their email issues or do we need to reach them at their gmail still.

luchiano, as far as vaping joints?, i dont know if you would want to do this... but you dont need to... its not designed to be used that way and i get very good flavor from it... i mean there is no products of combustion... thats the whole idea behind the vaporizing... the iolite wont burn you herb....it has a compartment that holds about .5 of a gram (i think) but even then, you dont need that much, unless you were passing it around or something...a joint takes about 1 gram of bud, vs. with this vaporizor a quarter of that will get you stupid....secondly, with this, you want your bud ground really fine and not packed down, but "fluffy"... this will get you the best vapor... also, i dont know if i would want paper involved anywhere in the vaporizing process...you dont know what chemicals are in the paper and at what temp that they would off gas at....but anyway, about .25 g will last me a good 20-30 min session... and will rip me, even though i have a very high tolerance... i highly recommend the iolite... its a good unit for what it was designed for... portable, effective vaporization with a low profile...

Does anyone know what the purpose is of the 7-hole metal piece on the herb chamber screen kit, i.e. the one with the holes that face towards the top of the unit where the mouthpiece screws in? I performed the mod suggested by shotgunwilly which replaces that screen kit with two retainer rings in the bottom of the herb chamber with a regular pipe screen on top. It seems to work well enough, but I was wondering if the screen kit devised by the folks at Iolite had some other purpose for the design.

Also, does anyone have any tips on vaping ABV honey produced with Isopropyl alcohol? I made my first batch. It is a bitch to handle and when you mix it with the new material, it becomes somewhat sticky and I am wondering if vaping it will create a cleaning nightmare.

How's it going? I've read this whole thread in a couple of days and just want to thank everyone for it. It's been super informative. I ordered my black iolite a few weeks ago and finally get to try it out this weekend!

Can anyone tell me how this performs at altitude? I've read on the iolite site and on this thread that the butane could have trouble over 1600m which is like 5200ft. Where I live at the grand canyon is just under 7k feet and I was planning on using it on the top of some mountains too. If it turns out it doesn't work well there, I can always lose some elevation thanks to the giant hole in the ground ;)

How long on average has it taken you guys to get a response back from customer service about mouth pieces? It's only been two maybe three business days, but seeing how this is my first vaporizer I'm pretty anxious to use it again. (Broke both mouth pieces within 12 hours of using it).

I'm El Diablo Baby!!!
Why is iolite even shipping those mouth pieces any more? Seems like some bullshit to me, so many people have that same experience, they're straight defective.

My advice to you is to just go to amazon and pick up some replacements... Check my post above, I do not think it is directly Iolites fault about the mouthpieces, I mean they could have planned better and made the new model mouthpieces in the first place, but we havee to remember that they are a business too... I really just think it depends on the type of mouthpiece that you have bro, I left a very detailedpost above about my experience because it has happened to me... Just a matter of who manufactured those cheap mouthpieces, and who got the good plastic ones that sckrew on both ends...

my experience is the Iolite doesnt like too work over 7000 feet.

DevoTheStrange,
On another note, I want to make sure that everyone knows to NEVER USE RONSON, I will say that one mroe time... NEVER USE RONSON.... after my probelms (posted above) with the iolite not starting properly, I want to say that I emptied the bullsh!+ RONSON and filled it up with the Vector... :/ was skeptical, because I had been like a week or two of the thing just not working... BUT THE MF TURNED RIGHT ON... I clicked it like two or three times and it was money.... I couldn't believe it... the RONSON is really dirt quality, and the vector is AAA baby...

I wish I could tell everyone who has an Iolite to NEVER USE RONSON because the shi+ I went through, man lets just say i was about to return the unit...

VECTOR worked likea charm, thanks Jonah Hex, and Macbill... I am back in full effect, and more stealth than ever...

I was thinking of a stealth cup too but the exhaust was my worry too!!

I was thinking of a cup with bottom removed but still something to hold the IO in place but haven't quite figured out what. I was picturing in my head (things always look beautiful in my head ;) ) anyhow, like a couple dowels or something that allow the IO to seat but not fall through.

Has anyone ordered the new metal mouthpiece online yet? I'm hoping to order it from a US store, but I don't really want to email everyone to make sure I'm ordering the metal tips.

Umm, where is the exhaust vent so you're not inhaling CO etc. through the bowl and into your mouthpiece? :uhoh:
the more i look at the pics, the more i have too agree with the above query...
I don't have a camera here to show the improvements i've made to the herb chamber. (after i took those pictures)
i added a clean air tube directly into the chamber

but how do you avoid breathing in the exhaust from the iolite? if it is sitting inside the cup without a place for the exhaust too go, you will be breathing in the fumes when you hit it.

kind of like a really tiny version of a running car inside a closed garage. after a while that air wont be hospitable. I would think you would want the exhaust out in the open with the Iolite so you dont run the risk of inhaling the exhaust.

I don't remember the particulars, but I seem to recall the II team explaining that the exhaust was not harmful. The only danger to confining it is perhaps overheating if it can't cool itself down.

I don't think there is any way you can inhale butane with this unit...correct me if I'm wrong.

I would like to second that notion, lol...

I have done the research, I think the majority of us have... Just google it bro, when you see the picture that shows how the parts work on the inside, then you see that the butane is processed a completely different place, chamber compartment whatever you wanna call t, it happens in a totally different place than where the chamber is, no flow of butane even gets in there, the only thing thats in that chamber is the hot rod... :) It's safe, pick it up, your only cheating yourself without one...

i did a test with the IO, in a closed box with a CO detector. When it started from cold it triggered the sensor, but if i put it in the box after the first heat-up, it didn't seem to produce any CO.

after about an hour running in a closed box, there was water moisture on the inside of the box.

Interesting. My GPS says my house is at 6920ft and it seems to work excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing how high I can take it (no pun intended). When I find out I'll post it here.

Also as a side note, the mouthpieces that came with my iolite haven't melted after 2+ hrs of use. They do have the X and are not metal threaded. Did I luck out and get some of the good batch?

So I've had my Iolite for a while, and I'm not sure it's working correctly.

I warm up the Iolite, wait for 2 heat sessions, load the bowl, and take a toke after every heat, but I hardly see any vapor whatsoever.

On top of that, after a bowl in the Iolite, I'm only feeling a slight buzz at most, that takes 10 minutes to get there, too. Now I smoke a lot, so my tolerance is a bit higher, but I expected the Iolite to be much more potent than it is to me now, and I don't know if it's because it's a faulty product I got shipped, or if I'm doing something wrong, or if the Iolite just isn't for me.

Anyone have any suggestions? Should I just send my Iolite in for a replacement in case I did get a faulty machine? My straws were faulty, so I got sent replacements, so maybe there was an issue with the Iolite as well.

As a side note, is it difficult to get the Warranty replacement on these?

i load the chamber then let it heat up for 3 or 4 cycles.

you may also be loading too much. If i only 1/3 fill the chamber, i get about 4 long pulls. (wait at least 2 cycles between)

there is also herb quality and herb moisture the think about.
