A true haiku though
Is seventeen on, yet our
English one's are not.

Syllables, you see,

Actually, it's kinda fucking Haiku, 'cause if it was REALLY fucking Haiku, it would be written in Japanese characters, but then, how in the fuck would we know how many syllables there are? I mean, I KNOW I'm not the only one that counts syllables when reading some of these, right?

Yeah, I don't see what the lack of direct translatability of the measure of counting "beats" to English has to do with writing epic haiku ballads, though. We can't count them the same way in English, but we can still follow all the other aspects of the form. There's been a lot of examples a lot closer to renga poetry than haiku.

Well, technically they should also contain a seasonal reference, but I see no problem with dumping that as it's pretty damn hard to shoehorn into a poem about a vapouriser, however the cut and the formal structure are easy enough to adopt. To strictly follow the form, they should be concise, and contain a break and juxtaposition between the first and last two, or first two and last, lines.

Like this example,
I could write anything here;
but this bit contrasts.

That's why they have haiku "masters". Doing it properly is supposed to be difficult, and require thought and effort.
