Arizer Solo

Tried again last night, and I don't think it is the stem, it is all the way in. I just can't get the Solo to hit like the MFLB. I get medicated, but it takes a lot more product and 3x the draws. In a single session I draw maybe 7 times and only get one good lung full, the rest of the hits are medium.

Maybe I'm overpacking...I'll keep trying things.

With the turbo stems or Ed's stem which works the same you have basically an unrestricted draw. Packing well helps with a fine grind but saying this it works differently then a regular stem. You will by nature get more wispy vapor unless you slow your draw a lot. You have to play with your draw speed and make sure the herb is heated up. Keep trying there is a learning curve. Use your stock stem so you can see the difference. Good luck.

I've been playing with a charger stand based off a great idea posted previously by a smarter FC member than myself(sorry, I searched). This member took a paint can cap and weighted it with clay, etc, very clever. Anyway, I was adding to the idea with a small extension cord from the top of the cap/Solo connection, through the base to the female port, which I would mount on the side of the cap where your charger or PS could be plugged in.
Problem is I ordered three sets of "6" EXT. Plug->Jack .21x5.5mm both ends" and they don't fit.
So other than exhibit my ignorance on FC, I hope someone can give me the right fitting size for the power supply/charger.
TIA

Adobewan,
Could be the issue for sure. It is the Ed TNT Wood stem. It is metal at the bowl end, should all the metal part be in the Solo, I have a bit sticking out still?

Mine sticks out same as this one:
No if its like that then your good. But you need to remember that with Ed's stems you really need to warm them up for a little bit to really get good vapor going.

Just make a video. That's what the last guy had to do to determine his problem(not putting the stem all the way in). It will all work out in the end. :)

Adobewan the base I bought does have that extension piece. It is only 3' but works great and gives us the extra cord we need. I did have a light issue last night however and used the plug straight to charge cause I couldn't be bothered figuring out the issue at 1am. I hope it isn't the extension piece that you are wanting causing the issue but I doubt it. I had to press both up and down arrow while it was flashing lights and beeping to get it back to normal. The paint can top by red was a good alternative for those who can do it. I think someone made a wood one as well.

Just bought the Solo. Had one session so far with it, gotta say it hits pretty nice. Couple of noob questions:

Do you guys use screens on the glass stems or just make sure the herb isn't ground small enough to pass through without a screen?

Also, when you're charging the unit and it hits 7, is it fully charged? Or is there another indicator if you keep it plugged in?

I use a screen, I don't like any chunks to get in my mouth, but then again I grind fine.

Charge until the green light goes solid.

You have to decide on screens. Some use them some don't. I can go either way but most of the time I like a domed screen so the herb cooks more evenly and I get nicer hits.

When the blinking light goes solid it is charged not when it first gets to seven. It takes a bit long then that but I am not going to guess how much longer.

Yoshi beat me damn it....:D

Congrats, good choice....but I guess you've figured that part out already?

You can use a screen or not, even fine ground seems to stay put but little bits get stuck in the deposits so if you plan to reclaim you might want to 'filter' it with a screen? I like to dome mine up a bit (I use 5/8 not 1/2 inch for that reason, even flattening the dome a bit. That way the four holes don't block part of the screen and it stays clear longer. Remember to keep the goods dry going in if you want to lessen fouling.

Letting it charge more is a good plan if you want maximum battery life. Eventually the top green "charge" LED goes solid indicating end of charge. If you're they type that recharges often you might consider stopping a light or two from the end (say step 5 or 6). This will cut maybe 10% from the charge life (not even a bowl less per charge) but might easily double the lifespan of the battery.

For real? good to know

My 2 pence! (like what i did there)
get a PVHES stem, they are awesome,
but if you stick to the stock i think a screen is always good, easier to clean, and ensures no "pull through"
but don't get a super fine screen, or at least if you do get 2 or 3 as they block easily.

Just received the M1A model today and I'm loving it. I was getting tired of using my volcano and was not interested in another desktop model. You can't beat the solo when it comes to cost and size, it packs a mean punch. The Solo reminds me of my first vaporizer I used in 2007 called "THE VAPE" it was one of the best tasting vaps made back in those days.

So after a fun night with my new friends at TriSymbolize Glass, I was able to obtain a replacement GonG for my solo. Just in time for my hydratube to get here. The adapter is unbelievable, we sized it up with the solo on the spot and retouched it to make it perfect. the result is a very snug fitting and 'twist locking'... yes 'twist locking' GonG stem. I opted for a single turbo style hole instead of a 6 hole glass screen because the holes were so damn micro in the screen they had. I have used a 14mm PVHE regular (nonturbo nonshorty) GonG extensively and now this custom GonG for 2 days, and I must admit, as much as i am a fan of planet vapes rendition, I may go out and say I prefer the consistent cloud density, very even roasting of my new adapter, and slightly smaller bowl size due to thicker walls. I also can't leave out the fact that I feel much more confident with my solo sitting on my bubbler now with this new piece being much shorter than the PVHE GonG (And I thought that thing would never break). Anyways, I gave it a quick wash to snap some pictures for all of you, as I highly recommend reaching out to a local glass blower, having a great time, and getting a custom GonG yourselves. Went into the studio not knowing if i'd walk out with an adapter or not, and walked out as happy as a little kid on christmas morning after meeting a couple new friends, using some unbelievable glass, and even getting some torch time as we blasted phish in the back! Great night... great GonG adapter.

I am, however, still on the PVHE mailing list. and will most certainly be picking up another one when they come back in stock

Cheers!

here is what i got back from Kevin at Arizer when asked about best charging practices: "It is best to keep the Solo fully charged when possible, but charging before the battery is drained or waiting to charge until the battery is drained will not damage the battery or negatively affect the battery performance. When charging it is best to charge fully -- do not interrupt the charge cycle if it can be avoided."

i highlighted the points i find most interesting. an i gotta say that Kevin is very quick to reply to emails. so far my experience with Arizer has been pretty solid.

looking forward to the solo mini

Here is some info 2clicker received from Kevin at Arizer regarding charging until the light turns solid green. He states it is best not to interrupt the charging cycle.

You could sell thousands of those, I know I would buy one.

Support your local glass artists!

We talked about that actually, FC came up and I mentioned a lot of people probably want these. Makes it that much more of a special piece huh?

It would also put PV in a funky position considering they probably have a guy blowing a bunch of them at the moment

I decided it would be fair to pay donate what Planent Vape sells it for. But for the kind of night we had, they ended up hooking it up.

For real? good to know

Yup, for real. Check out Table 4:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

In round figures stopping charging .1 Volts early doubles the lifespan. Likewise, not discharging to the bottom can help but that's kind of working against itself. Doubling the number of cycles doesn't get you anywhere if you only discharge half way each time. You get the same number of sessions in the end, but charge more often. But stopping say one bowl of the 6 or 8 (at 4.1 not 4.2 Volts) can double the cycles and nearly double the sessions.

In the end the battery will die if nothing else beats it....no sense in getting there any quicker as I see it.

I would but I get the sneaking suspicion that the only local glass blower is actually just a head shop owner who like to pretend to blow glass.

Could be. But perhaps he's a glass blower pretending to be a head shop owner.......

This is one of those conundrums in life. How do you scold someone to start reading when they would have to start reading to read your scold? Brain twister.

Not a scold as I read it, more of a request? It says 'please XXX' not 'you better' or 'why don't you' or similar? That's a clue to me.

Your point is well taken, if the OP never reads it it's the proverbial tree falling with nobody to hear. It's true that at one point we had the same question being posted on several threads so that was a pretty real 'risk'.
Answering didn't always get through (you had no idea if your reply will ever be read....) a potential waste of good effort, but I think it's a fair gamble....and a reasonable request? If it doesn't get through, it doesn't (we're no worse off)?

"Please" can run through you like a hot rail! Wasn't criticizing the scolding - just commenting on a Seinfeld moment.
