Underdog Log Vapes

Came home on Thursday to find this Lost Dog at my door.

Can I keep her? She fits right in!
I really like how it matches the desk and wood panelling on the wall. I think my desk might actually be Elm like the UD, it has an interlocking grain also. I was contemplating the more intricate pieces, but I am very happy with the simplicity of this one.
I find a sort of comfort with this piece of art that is hard to explain.
Really loving Dave's work. It was a pleasure procuring this, Underdog and Underdogette have been great!

I've yet to see an ebony dog, if that's something I had in mind for the future would I need to provide my own wood?

We've made a handful of Ebony Dogs, mostly in Mun Ebony and Black & White Ebony. It's hard to find appropriately dried stock large enough for a vape these days, I think the only stuff I have in stock big enough now is a little bit of B&W.

Providing your own wood is something that come ups occasionally and something we let people on occasion do. That being said I'm a pretty strict stickler for making sure the wood is legally and sustainably harvested which rules out a lot of the wood people are able to find a 'good' deal on unfortunately. :peace:

Dave,
Is a new release due anytime soon?
I've got a few people interested in some dogs.

Thanks!

Well, last week I passed the 4-month mark of Underdog usage.

Guess how many issues I've had with the Dog's performance during that time?

You guessed it!

Just as it was on Day 1, the UD is the pack leader in my home from 10 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week.

And I gotta' say, I still find my milk-iest hits coming from the UD... :smug:

Still curious about what new UD projects might be released this year... :whip:

Hey guys sorry I haven't responded to some of your questions yet, I've had my hands full in the shop working on some stuff for the past few days. I've got a minute now so I'll catch up.

Dave:

Without giving away any secrets, you have anything to add to this discussion?:

Cool stuff but I don't really have anything to add as the UD design is more of a hybrid between a traditional log core and what they're talking about in there. Cool stuff though and maybe at some point I'll make a model similar to that.

@ gucci - yes, working on a little refresh now, should be done in another week to week and a half.

@ EDA - 4 months already?! Dang time flies by.. working some design mods for this year, some to come sooner than others, some maybe not at all with the way things tend to work. Still analyzing how the new VVPS we're supplying is working out for people as well. :ninja:

This week I lost my power supply :ugh:. As I type, the dog sits stone cold next to me. But after a brief interaction with Dave (that goes fast as shit considering 4/20 is days away) I'm reminded why I'm so glad I chose the UD. Good people, trying to help out. Carry on .

I meant to post this a while back, but I forgot, and I'm not sure if it matters to anyone anymore...

A while ago, there was talk of silicone slipping off the glass of the WonG and causing spills. I have found that annoyance to be solved by very simple means. After giving the WonG glass and silicone a nice, sexy ISO bath and very brief water rinse, I wait very patiently for the materials to naturally dry. After about 15 minutes, I reinsert the glass into the WonG, and then slide my silicone back over and press very firmly against all 4 sides of the silicone right next to the wood for about two, three minutes. I don't press against the wood, but only the silicone to the glass. The key is (I think) to do this right when the materials are dry enough. Just keep pressing and pressing hard enough to "feel it" in your fingers, but not so hard you'll damage the glass, of course. After I'm done, it's more likely for the downstem to come out of my beaker than it is for the silicone to move when pulling the UD away. I can hold the entire pipe up by the UD/silicone connection, if the downstem is in tight enough. And it stays this way until my next cleaning. Cool, huh?

My only concern is that... maybe I end up inhaling a little leftover ISO that hasn't completely evaporated if I slide the silicone over too soon or if I hit the piece too soon?

On another note, I've been buttering up the UD about once a week now. And it seems like the butter finish doesn't last as long anymore. You know how nice the UD looks and feels after the Underbutter for quite a while? Now it seems as though my Dog starts feeling a little dry and rough maybe two days after. Am I buttering it too often? Or am I noticing something that is not real? :mental: Maybe I'm just becoming more attuned to the needs of my Dog.

Oh, and remember to clean your WonG! I can't believe the difference in draw when the glass is clean! You barely have to breathe.

Guh.

2 weeks worth of Pre-Calc crammed into one 8-hour study session.

And I actually finished, instead of tearing out the pages one by one and watching them float down to the backyard.

Couldn't (and wouldn't) have done it without you, Underdog! :dog:

Man, I don't know how students used to study WITHOUT being medicated.

Nbajunkie

Someones always watching..
Pulled my UD out of hibernation. My other vape was stinking up the room..UGH! So I plugged this little guy in and in 20 minutes Im milking my glass. And no one is none the wiser that my UD is back in the fold! No over whelming smell. :)I feel a bad for pulling the plug on the dog. But It pays to have a backup, for a backup. My UD has never disappointed me.And its great for glass. Speaking of which, I should have a new piece of glass tomorow. And that sounds like a job for UD:dog:

Hey Dogs sorry I haven't been posting very often lately, I've been a busy bee here at the shop catching up on spring cleaning and working on the next litter of Pups.

I've also been working on the next generation of Dogs, a slightly evolved breed and a couple slightly evolved stem options as well.

Was going to make an announcement a couple days ago but wasn't quite ready, getting close now though.. :ninja:

Many thanks to Underdog and Underdogette for their cooperation with me, and for their hard work. This Red Oak Goblet (I named her Gingerbread) is sure to last a lifetime. <3<3<3

Got a replacement power supply yesterday, and it kicks ass. Question to those with the variable supply - have you found a good way of laying it so it doesn't get quite as hot? I've got it raised up with a couple of beer caps to get more air around it, but that's the only part that worries me about leaving it during the day. Regular wall supply got warm, but definitely not as hot as this thing.

Gingerbread! That's an awesome name :) Glad you're enjoying your new pup!

I'm not the type to normally name pieces but its hard not to fall in love with something so beautifully crafted.

For the moment, I took one of the glass jars that Underdog sent as part of the kit, turned it upside down on my desk and set the VVPS on it, so its touching the glass part of the container and the plastic lid touches my desk.

Willow, that's a pretty good idea. I actually ended up breaking that jar, but happened to have an empty jam jar chilling around waiting for a use, thanks!

I know someone on FC would put a small fan blowing on the VVPS to cool it down. Like a cheap computer fan. For me, I just switch out the regular wall-wart power supply after the VVPS has been on long enough to get searing hot on the bottom.
