Athlete Vaporists?

i use my NordicTrack first thing in the morning -- running on a calorie deficit -- full body sweat -- then i hit the vape. Best hits of the day.

we have too many animals around here for me to feel safe on the road. gf has been bitten several times.

i highly recommend the NT for fitness -- not strength building, i have a BowFlex for that. i had a sub-50 heart rate in my mid-40s. now i'm 65 and it's about 60.

Sooooo glad to see us old codgers getting and maintaining our health.

Will be turning 69 next month........resting heart rate is 47.

It truly is amazing how our bodies can heal and adjust over time. Considering all the abuse that I heaped on it in my younger years, it's amazing that I'm still alive, let alone being about to run 20 miles a week.

I don't know about you HD, but what I find really odd, in regards to getting older, is how quickly we can get out of shape but then how quickly our bodies can respond to get back into it again if you don't leave too much time go by. I've noticed that if I don't run for like 4 to 5 days in a row, when I go back out on the 5th or 6th day, my times are MUCH slower.........like 3 min slower over 4 miles. It seems that for me to get back to my previous times, it takes about the same amount of days that it took to lose it......4 to 5 days, and I'm back to where I was but it's just sooooo odd how quickly we can lose it.

Now down to 204 lbs. Haven't been this low in decades. 4 years ago, I was at 245. Six months ago, was at 220. Target is 200.

This is interesting. Check these two links out... http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/177534.php

The Australian study was repeated over at Yale with the exact same results. It seems that as we get older, our mortality rate drops if we are a bit overweight and in fact, if we fall within the "healthy range" of typical BMI scales, our mortality rate increases. This is good news, eh? ;)

"The overweight designation -- a BMI between 25 and 29.9 -- is an indicator of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality risk in younger adults, but in seniors, that trend appears to reverse. A Yale study conducted in 2001 using the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's U.S. Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults found no correlation between seniors who were mildly overweight and increased mortality rates. In fact, study participants labeled overweight had lower mortality rates than those in the acceptable range, suggesting that the ideal weight for seniors, as measured by BMI, is perhaps too restrictive."

The only major improvement I've found so far, as far as vaping is concerned, is my knee inflammation & pain has dropped enough that I can do the stairs at work much easier. Recovery seems faster, too.[/quote]

That's so true. MJ helps with inflammation and pain in my hip and quest after a long run. For me much better relief than Advil or Motrin. Besides tha,t drugs like Advil tend to bother my stomach to the point I can't really take them....

i still feel 28 in my mind's eye ... i weigh 175 now, 20 lbs less than when i graduated from high school. i am determined to avoid the typical old man belly bump - so no pleasingly plump for this body.

i sometimes skip a day or two if i've got a lot of work at the start of the day, but no more than that or i just don't feel right.

i'm addicted to the endorphins.

Aren't those nice. Soooooo peaceful with a general sense of well being. Sure would like to bottle it. It just doesn't last long enough. I never get it from just running though, but afterwards, when I stretch and do a few sets of pushups, pullups and crunches, those endorphins just begin to flow. Everything just seems so...........nice.

One question I have is, how do you all find energy after vaping to hit the trails? Are you only vaping after hours?

I spend about 80% of my day medicated and find that vaping a little flower before I go out running helps keep my legs loose, breathing steady, & my mind wandering(which helps keep me distracted from how far I've ran).. I have experimented and found that I cannot do Dabs and then go running without my lungs/chest having somewhat of a burning sensation towards the middle of a normal run for me..

I am actually going to be Running in my First Ever race this upcoming Saturday.. It's a 5k race, the first leg of a 3-race series(second being a 10k, 3rd a 10mi) leading up to the Derby here in KY. Looking forward to more running and races in my future!!

The endorphins plus the high from the Flowers is unmatchable IMO..

Alrighty - nice to see the activity in this thread and to see more athlete/vaporists sharing their comments. I've been busy as hell with work, family, training, so I'm late to respond. My apologies.

mvapes - You effing rock. I have much respect for you and enjoy your posts.

For me, vaping in fact gives me the motivation to hit the trails. But it's different for everyone. Like JSteez mentioned (quoted below), vaping helps me get in the zone for long runs. I don't go for speed--I go for strength and endurance. However, I typically vape at lower temps before runs, as it gives me a buzz more conducive to awareness but also enough to space me out so I can lose track of how far I've gone.

+1, JSteez! Vaping totally gets me in the mood for a nice long run in the woods/mountains.

More importantly, however, I'm sending you a PM, as I'm from "The Ville" and have many KY Derby Mini Marathons under my belt. We have much to discuss.

Fortunately or unfortunately, herb has always been an "upper" for me. Usually, I cannot go to sleep for hours after vaping (or smoking, when I used to). So I vape and get all jazzed up and go running in the evening. I actually used to have a "no smoke after 7:00pm policy" so I could be in bed at a time that would leave me rested for work the next day. I have a professional job and a wife and child. Running (my preferred form of exercise) is really important to me. I get out on trails with a headlamp during the weekday evenings and out on the trail during weekends.

EDIT: And walking is GREAT! I love walking and hiking and backpacking. I walk one day during the week as a "recovery workout" but really look forward to it. Different muscles than running. Low impact. Healthful. Awesome.

My wife is the same way. She'll vape and then clean the whole damn house without stopping. She has a "no vaping" rule after dinner as well so she can get to sleep. It doesn't impact me in that way. I guess I'm fortunate in that vaping impacts me pretty much how I want it to at any given time. Adjusting temps aids in that effort, for sure.

Also, plus fucking one on your walking comments! One of my heroes (Mark Allen--badass Ironman triathlete) once said his secret training weapon was walking.

I had a killer brick workout yesterday--run/swim/run. Gettin' ready for a tri!

Cheers to you all!

Before I let myself get fat, I would hit the gym regularly to power lift. No way could I do it after a vape...I would of passed out as soon as the oly left the ground.

I vote for before! :) What was your choice?
I chose before, however I wouldn't do it again. I only took two hits off the MFLB massive as they were.

Stretching felt good, but I couldn't "feel" my body as much? So while running I couldn't tell if my foot was hurting or not (trying to nurse it back to health) I didn't stay on long did a bunch of pull ups and push ups then rowed for about 2000 Meters before calling it quits. Hardly a workout and something I wont be doing again(unless im just stretching).

Sorry I'm still vaked from the "after" part lol

Went for a three-hour hike in the Quinault Rain forest yesterday. It looks, in this photo, like I'm dipping my foot into a stream - no, that is the trail. For quite a distance, the trail & the streambed were one... We took a joint with us, and enjoyed most of it out on the trail.

That's awesome! How lovely! I adore living in the Pacific Northwest and will certainly check this place out. Close to 101, it seems. Tasty. And how appropriate to partake while hiking in such a setting.

I often run the Pacific Crest Trail, as it's close to me, but I'm always keen to further explore this amazing area.

i know a soccer and some lax players that blaze a lot, but they dont vape and it fucks up their endurance.. like they try and break for a while. I gotta get them into vapes, but they like doing smoke tricks with the smoke from a pipe

Nice Vibrams brother I just found my flows!!

I have to second this! I did a Tough Mudder in Vermont never has my body been so beat up. I took a HOT whirlpool bath after, and did an hours worth of trigger point therapy(balls and foam rollers to get lactic acid out in order to decrease and shorten soreness). I was sore for 4 days straight.

In October I did another Tough Mudder in Jersey Which was two miles Longer than the Vermont race. I finished the 12 miles and did my trigger point therapy for an hour just like last time. Except I medicated HEAVILY for 48 hours. I was only sore for a day and a half it was incredible!!

For this thread, I stopped lurking and signed up. I'm 48 recently completed my second marathon and am signed up for a half iron man in a few months. I vape a few times a week.

While certainly less detrimental than smoking, I'm unclear on MJ's impact on my performance. My sense is that it hurts lung capacity (I imagine I feel this during early morning swims the day after) but nothing consistent or dramatic enough to really make a call.

Anyone else notice a sore throat or runny nose after indulging? Maybe I'm just getting a cold.

I can get a little congestion/irritation sometimes. FAAAAAAARRRRR less severe than it was with smoking. Probably the only way to avoid irritation all together would be to eat edibles. Even, then, though...some say that cannabis suppresses the immune system.

If cannabis didn't have the medicinal/recreational properties that it does, probably not many would use it. But because it does, folks seem to do their own cost/benefit analysis.

^ love the cost benefit analysis I know I had to do one to continue my use. Haven't done a WOD in three weeks I gotta get back on it!

goatgobaahh,
Just wondering, has anyone tried taking a THC pill or eating an edible and then running a marathon? (That way the high would last for the whole run, and your lungs wouldn't be affected.). I'm not planning on doing it, I'm just wondering if it can be done, and if the THC effects you enough as to where it either improves your time, or makes it harder to finish?
