Shot him an email. I know I asked him in the email, but does he still do purpleheart wood? It looks really awesome, I like the darker wood colors. Maybe I can even decide on a wood later, there's so many different kinds!

I'll bet. I like the idea of being able to send in your own wood. Living in the PNW there isn't much diversity in wood here, it sucks! :(

Are there black woods?

Ebony, as in "ebony and ivory" is a wood. I believe a lot of its colour comes from stain/age, though?

Hmm, age might cause the wood to be less durable. I am liking the idea of really durable wood with an exotic color, so I might have to stick to purple heart wood :D

I don't know a lot about wood (well, other than what bOObs said) but I do know curing is extremely important in this regard and I know we are all in good hands with Alan.

You can use fresh ebony, it'll just be dark brown instead of black. If you could find a bit of antique ebony (like a broken chair leg or something), it'd be proper black all the way though, and make a pretty cool vape I think. Aged wood is actually preferable, too. Lower moisture content means it's less prone to cracking, especially if you're gonna embed a heater in it.

That's some food for thought, moisture content. I doubt I could find ebony wood unless I went to every Goodwill in town :lol:

I have successfully completed a move to Colorado. Everything is moved in, but now comes the fun of unpacking and getting everything set up. Moving seems tougher as you get older. Glad it is complete.

Yoshi - Welcome to the HI thread. If the wood will hold threads, I can make a HI from it. Purple Heart can be very tricky as it is a brittle wood. Ebony is also very brittle and needs special care during fabrication. I have learned quite a bit more about wood in the last couple of years.

Jam - Thanks for posting the great videos. Great versatility in how you can use the HI. Glad to hear you are enjoying the benefits of silicone bowl roasting. A high quality silicone bowl works wonders. I too was very skeptical at first, but it is now the thing I use most often.

toros23 - You are correct about the curing. Wood has some rules that cannot be broken. It sometimes takes a while to learn them all.

I also wanted to say that I feel sad for what happened with BDV and to say that I don't normally let people cut ahead in line, but another FC member (OTA) asked me to bend the list since he might might not be around long enough for me to get to him on the list. I will do my best to get to everyone who had contacted me in the order of the date your email was received.

Also someone posted some exotic wood supplier/s ages back in the thread, though I forget where. Try contacting those? Or call a piano maker/repairer, as they use it for the black keys (well, usually plastic nowadays, but they may do old-school custom work, or can point you in the right direction).

Or go out to your gran's shed/grandad's barn and look for some busted up furniture. Prolly won't find ebony but you'll likely find something interesting.

Hmm...Seems like I have a taste for hard to work with woods :lol:

I'm gonna go through the thread to see what kinds of woods you have available, if there are standard woods you choose from :D

I saw that redheart when I was looking for different woods. Looks really pretty :smug:

I also saw a note that lighter colored woods will be less warm on the outside. Since I am not looking to have a hand warmer, I might have to look into lighter colored woods. Still stuck on the purple heart though since I know Alan can do it :lol:

I did make a stem from an old ebony piano key. Giving old wood new life is a lot of fun.

The place has an unfinished basement which should work very well. Need to finish getting the shop set up.

I do have you on the list now ob. Will try to make it as quick as possible.

Was watching the video of he Herbalizer popping the corn and decided to see what would happen if I put a kernel of popcorn in the HI. It works pretty well. There is a little bit of wait and suspense. Sometimes the popcorn shoots all the way out and other times it gets stuck and needs to be pried out with a bamboo skewer tool. I can now add one more function to the list of things the HI can do.

Hi.. Alan.. I am glad to see it looks like you will still be producing the HI.. An email I got from you a while back sounded like you might be stopping..

Anyway I have been on the wait list now for over a year.. I would REALLY still love to get one of your Hi's.. Can you tell me am I really close to being the next on the list once you get settled and start making them again??? I will send you and Email too in case you cant tell who I am by this post..

Hey Alan, I just shot you an email about getting on the waiting list.

I'm a big fan of my older log vape style and want a new one to replace it. You look like you've got an amazing product here and I hope I get to try it out sometime in the future.
