After the first week of riding the wave I began to reminisce about the fast, direct hits that I could get from a heat gun setup that a friend had. I wanted a quick vapor delivery method for the SSV so I stopped by the local home improvement store and picked up a 10ft coil of 3/4" O.D. x 5/8" I.D vinyl tubing. I snipped about two inches off of the coil and slid the small piece over the SSV wand. The wand fit nice and snug into the downstem of my 18.8 guage ice chamber. This little mod gave me that heat gun feel I was looking for. I prefer the ground glass heater cover + wand because it fills my ice chamber much quicker.

So, this inspired me. I cut about 3-4 inches of tubing off and with my 18" bong and my SSV on my desk, it's seems like the perfect setup. I'm thinking about having a custom standard heater wand made with a Sphecial GG end and a 18mm cutsom joint made with a Spehical GG female and lose the 4" tubing completely. The glass guy I know has been on the festival circuit though, so I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet. It's that or have a custom wand made that's angled with an 18mm male end.

Anyone ever get a custom wand from someone other than 7th floor?

got a slip in the mail saying that after 5 tonight I can go to my local post office and once i pay customs the sweet sweet SSV will be all mine! :p hehe

can you tell im excited? :D

ok i went and picked it up and it's already broken! :( the heater cover over the ceramic is broken at the base where it connects on. I contacted the seller, they are going to send me a new one.

I had to pull the heater cover off so they could see it properly, and when i did the shim came out with it, but also a little sliver of metal came out too. i'd say 1/8th of an inch by 3/4 of an inch.

here is a picture of the damage.

I wanted to ask. is that little strip needed to go back in on the cover when i put the new on in? not hte shim thats in the glass, but above it.

Since those things are made by hand they vary in size quite a bit , hence the shims. I'd say play it safe and try without first. If its snug then you are good to go , if not add the shims one at a time. Don't use force , it should go on easily.

So I've had my SSV for a while. I'm absolutely in love with it, I hardly ever combust anymore unless my friends roll up a joint or something. However, my SSV came with the spherical ground glass connection. I would like to order the standard heater cover and wand but I'd like them to match in color at least. Is there any way to specify what color heater cover and wand I get? I'm talking about the standard standard wands and heater covers, nothing fancy just the ones with a little color. Thank you guys. :D

EDIT: Did some research and answered my own question. My question now is when they talk about perforated or stainless steel stand style for the heater cover, what are they talking about and how do I know which one I need?

When your SSV is cooled, gently remove the heater cover and take a look at where it goes on the heater. Heck, even take some pictures if you have to and send them to the 7th Floor folk. They are usually pretty good about getting you the correct infos.

Well I know where to look and stuff, I just don't know the visual difference between the two to determine what I need. :(

One has holes in it (perforated) the other one is solid. Should be easy enough ;)

alright So I couldn't take it and i started using my surfer already (with the broken HC pictured above)

I have to turn it up pretty high but i figure because of the increased airflow I am getting less heating power than would normally come with this unit.

that said here are my first experiences.

wow! thick hits that you have no idea you took until you exhale!

after a few bowls and getting used to it, i packed a bowl of pure kief and it melted into a brown gooey lump. I stirred and stirred and man is that a tasty hoot! got an exam later so im gonna try not to blaze, unless i get nausea from stress.

after i get back though there's gonna be clouds in my apt! :D

so all in all i am impressed, but i expect the concentration of heat to get better once i get my replacement part. how lucky that it still works even though its broken.

Good for you weedemon! (is that suppose to spell like wee-demon like it does in my head? )

I'd probably do the same if I was in your shoes. Just curious, but is you unit a blemished one or was it shipped in the SSV bag instead of just a box?

i was gonna get the blemished version, but with the FC coupon code i got a brand new one with a bag for about the same money as the blemished version + the bag.

it came in a box, but it was really just the bag in the box, no additional packaging to protect the unit. does it normally ship with the HC already attached? I figured i would have to put that one once i got it but it was already on it.

and yes that's how i pronounce my nick also :p wii-demon.

here we go SSV is hot and ready for clouds! Happy 420 EV1! *cough cough* :D

Combustion free since '09
My SSV also came with heater cover attached. Good luck, that SSV is a heavy hitter for sure :D

I have a blemished one, but I bought a bag with it so it came shipped in that and a box around that just like yours. My heater cover was in place when it arrived though. There's also no little metal shim in mine like I've seen with others here, not sure if that has anything to do with it. It's on nice and tight without the shim anyway, same goes for the extra heater cover I ordered later.

thanks for the info folks!

here is a pic of my current setup

the lil bong is "red eye" glass (cdn made i was told) and lucky for me it has a slit style diffused stem. the kink in the neck makes for a good spashguard with such a small bong. 14 mm stem so i put the tube right in there and used the rubber washer from the bowl piece to crate an airtight seal around the hose. i think it was 60 bucks when i bought it 2.5 years ago.

This is first post so just want to say hi all. Wanted to post as i have been watching this thread for a while and am waiting for my first SSV in the post.
Only 2nd vape after Iolite and have not even wanted to smoke since buying it a month ago and cant wait to see what the rips are like from the ssv.

Really like the above setups
@OhTheAgony what wand and heater cover setup you using? Think I can see the hands free clip there and wnted to know if it can be used with standard and ground glass wands

The HFA is different for the standard and SGG connections. The regular ground glass connection doesnt need the HFA.

Thanks weed!

 sorry about the confusion. No worries though, I'm the one who turned his base around. I find it a little more convenient the way it's placed on my desk, and I think it also looks a little better from the side you normally view when using it.

I really like my Ehle, I never even use my SSV without it anymore. It was a bit big at first, but I got used to handling it now and I don't really like the idea of having a smaller chamber. I love the SSV for the big hits it delivers, but the longer ones do get kind of hot to the throat without some cooling.

The tubing is normally used for watercooled computers and it has a black smartcoil around it, it's also UV reactive, haha. I don't actually use it though (it isn't food grade and it sort of stinks), I just put it on for fun when I made those pictures :p

Well spotted VAS!

And welcome btw. I never used an Iolite, but I can't imagine you'll anything but love your SSV.

Mine has the standard heater cover and yes, I had the handsfree adapter on there, just kept the wand out of sight because it is the only part that wasn't clean.

Finaly got my first ssv. Tried it out last night and loved it. Tried standard and ground glass fittings and stuck with the ground glass in the end. Found it very solid push and twist and it stays. The heater covers are fairly easy to replace once youve worked out how to put the awkward little shims that come with it in place.
Had it set to about 3 o clock and was getting big clouds of tasty vapor for a good few hits and found it hard to reach combustion fantatic rips that ended up putting me to sleep in front of the tv , you cant give higher praise than that:) and was going to write an all good great review.
But i get up in the morning and plugged the ssv back in as i had managed to unplug it before i finaly went to bed and now it seems to be running too hot and im getting combustion at just past the on click at about 9 oclock when last night i was running at 3 oclock with no combustion. Im toking at the same rate and cant figure out what im doing wrong.
Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

Combustion at 9 is very odd indeed. Is it possible your knob is on loose so it turned to another position perhaps? Wait, you wrote right after the click so that can't be it.

Are you sure you didn't drop it or anything last night? Is the heating element still in the same position as it was yesterday? If so the only thing I can think of is some sort of a failure of the dimmer switch & you may have to send it in or replace it yourself if 7thfloor sends you one.

I concur- Does it still get duller and brighter when you turn the dimmer? (might need to look at it in the dark)

Good luck on getting just a part from 7th Floor under warranty- they wouldn't do that with a ceramic element for me :2c:

And prior to that I'd had my dimmer switch 'pop' on me (with a little bang!). I had a quick look and although I know next to nothing about electronics, it looked more like a circuit board based switch, rather than the 'pots' I'm familiar with on musical equipment. I'd hoped it might be user replaceable, but I didn't like to look of it and so sent it back across the Atlantic for warranty repair.

(they do have EU repairs now, if that's relevant)

ok turned it off and let it all cool down and turn on again and all seems to be ok again. I think the problem was i left the wand attatched to the heater cover with the ground glass as it heated up and the wand got hotter than i realised at that end so it was combusting at any temp because of the ambient temp of the wand.
Thanks for the help i guess ill keep learning :)
