Hey Everyone,

I have been spinning some Wood tubes for the Mighty AromaZap.I had great fun making them and will be making some more for sure.

What do you think?

Im waiting on some stainless steel tips to arrive to finish them off.Although Brass is the traditonal material for zap bowls.I want to upgrade my tubes to use light gauge Stainless steel bowls.

These tubes are quite slim and elegant.I wanted to make them as light and manageable as possible, without compromising on strength.All feature 14mm Wong mouthpieces so can be used in 14mm glass or an 14/18 adapter if like me youre glass is 18mm.It has been fun trying them out and my new hobby is hard to put down.

Thats an 18mm gong adapter made from cocobolo on the right hand side.

Woods here are Cocobolo,tigerwood ebony,olivewood from bethlehem and the cocobolo wong on the right. I have other woods I plan on using inc,koa kamani,goncalo alves,I will be busy for sure:)

I will post better photos once I make a few more pieces made:tup:

thats the olivewood.its a beautiful piece for sure.
the thing I enjoy about each unique piece is you re never sure what you will get until you cut into the wood and finally wax it to finish.theres always something special,a jewel every time.

all of these pieces I ve turned slightly differently.I just go with the flow.

These wood stems are awesome. I especially like the 18mm WonG adapter. Are you going to be producing any for sale? I'd really like one like that.

hey all

my myrtlezap has been on a shelf for a year or so.. i know...

seems the website is down. could someone please refresh me on operating it? it takes 45-60 minutes to warm up?

If the Zap is a CRZ (RockZap) 15-30 minutes is plenty.
Old School Zap will be good to go in 45 minutes, but will be stable and at peak performance in a couple of hours.

yep i have the old school zap.. didn't know there was an updated model until today. very cool! thanks for the reply brother, much appreciated!

So I've left it to warm up 1-2 hours but I only seem to get two decent hits per load. I'm using a mendo mulcher grinder which doesn't grind TOO fine but has always worked well with my MFLB. The plastic white tubes that came with it, i don't get too good of a rip off those. The glass ones with the carb work pretty well though. I do have a wooden tube spun by Ed but the brass tip ALWAYS gets stuck in my zap so I tend to not use it (just need to whip out the pliers). Does the level of the grind need to be a lot finer for the Zap as opposed to the MFLB? I can get around 5 hits on a MFLB trench but only 2, maybe 3, with the zap? That sound about right? I've also noticed the herb doesn't ever reach a dark brown with the zap -- whereas my ABV from the MFLB you can take to that dark brown color.

I'm thinking there is one of two problems (or both) going on here.

I think your grind might be too fine (and maybe the herb not dry enough or of a high quality). Or, your power adapter might be on the fritz and not supplying enough juice to the Zap to heat it adequately. Try changing things up a bit. Do you have another wall adapter that you can try?

I'll poke around in some drawers tonight and see if I have a spare PA. As far as the grind, it's not powdery or near that consistency but maybe small chunky bits. I also do not hammer in the material with the wooden presser but just lightly pack it in so nothing falls out.

I know the herb has been working well in a SSV but it *could be a bit on the wet side. I'll try fiddling around tonight, thank you for replying!

Hey all. So I bought this power supply unit and just got it in today.

Plugged it in, adjusts to 18v no problem. But when I plug my zap into it, I can only get 13.2 volts from it at full dial. Unplug my zap, and the dial jumps to 18v. Plug the zap back in, 13.2v.

Does this make sense to anyone? Does the zap just pull so much juice that the little unit can't provide it? I know some of you have this little unit. Does this happen to yours?

Dude I have 2 of these units and neither of them do that. I might notice a slight drop off but that's something like .2-.4 nothing like a full volt not to mention 5 or 6. Bum VVPS maybe? see what others say.

I will say it works well at 13.2. It's not hot or anything. Does it every time, though. Strange.

Something in my memory just told me that the voltage drop is due to putting a load on the unit. It can't handle it. I bet it is a faulty ps. Crap.

Yeah, it's not supposed to do that Dude.. a drop of .2 (or even .5) might be ok but a large drop like what you're experiencing isn't right. That being said it might work just fine for you at 13.2v. It might have a weak component or solder joint that's limiting the current at those higher voltages but is strong enough to supply what's needed at the lower voltages. :2c:

Just found the tattoo ps replacement cords on your site Underdog, thank you for making these available!!! I wish I would have known sooner, my poor zap has been stuck at 12v since my original spartan cord went bad months ago. Time to get my zap train rollin in the high temps again and bring an old friend back to life!

Thanks for the feedback, man. Just top update, it took some back and forth and some pics to convince, but the seller finally agreed to send me a new unit at their cost. I have been using the faulty one at 13.2 volts with good success, but hopefully the new one will work correctly.

They tried to tell me at first that it was not "faulty" and they promised it was a good unit but that maybe the LED screen didn't read accurately. I'm like, "What good is a vvps if it doesn't read voltage accurately?" :lol: Yeah, their argument didn't hold up.

After a long struggle with a fatal crack my Cherry Zap and I had a long talk about what was best. My Zap decided that it was better to give his life to science in the hope he could live on in others. So in case anyone wondered what it looks like these are the guts to a CRZ.

But seriously, I'm sure that I could easily rebuild my Zap with the parts left over. The only thing I need is a blank wooden shell. Anyone know any wood turners? Anyone have a suggestion as to what would make a good replacement? I'd carve my own shell if not for a small lack of the proper tools and a complete lack of talent.
