How do you make a powerful tincture?

Would this work with vape re-claim ?

My whip for my EQ is absolutely filthy, as I have been trying to let the condensed vapor build up for the re-claim.
I know you guy's are frowning on this as you read......but seriously, I have been using my EQ and whip since August and it hasn't saw a drop of clean water...admittedly I only vape a couple of grams a week, but this thing is seriously dirty.

I had that much condensed vapor in the whip a couple of months ago you could actually see this stuff flowing in the whip...so I hooked the whip up with a weight on top of the table and removed the glass mouthpiece and left it a while so that the vapor oil/honey oil dripped out into a small amount of tobacco.
I then dried the tobacco a little and rolled it up...I smoked the little spliff with this oil but it didn't feel like it had any effect...I was un-sure though, as I did feel something but this was the first bit of tobacco I had smoked in a long time and kinda put the little tingle I felt down to the tobacco.
Well now my whip is even more loaded with this oily reclaim flowing up and down my whip...so would this oily condensed vapor be any good for this tincture stuff ?

I save my reclaims (bubbler, stems, globes, etc) until I have a bunch of abv to make oil. Combine and winterized. Hardly any taste if you winterized well. Usually is enough for me to have fun For at least a few days

Just thought it worth mentioning that co solvents like iso and ethanol are used to facilitate the complete purging of butane.

@puffers- as I understand it, ISO is not for ingestion.

Why worry about how your butane is purged when it gets dissolved into everclear or 151? Where does the butane still trapped in the oil go when its dissolved into the liquid??

Surely its released into the air when its freed from the oil?

just 'kickass' tincture that tastes like :goat::puke:

I use iso to purg my bho (broke my vac and this works just as well) so I would assume that when you put it into the 151 it would do the same think... I don't see why you would need to purg much. I prob still would. Or make a mini batch to test

Didn't mean to imply that you can consume iso just that it's something used like ethanol to help purge residual butane out. Please DO NOT drink iso :)

followed your advice, and just made it. Will let you know how it turned out!

Nice Kush  What kind of yield did you get from your butane run with ABV do you know?

What about quick washes with everclear or iso?

Dunno need to read how to do them again. I thought they were to much work when I have read them in the past but people come up with new ways to do things all the time.

Not be off topic but I think quick washes and a French press would make it pretty easy for you to do  if you have any questions you can drop me a PM.

Could you water cure your ABV in an effort to make it taste better before doing an alcohol soak for the tinc??

My tincture method has always been very simple. I use a 50/50 ratio, weed/kief to alcohol. I grind my herb very finely (unless it's kief), and add to a mason jar. Then I add just enough alcohol to cover the herb. I let it sit for 10 days, in a cool, dark place, shaking the mixture daily. After the 10 days, I strain the mixture through cheesecloth and a coffee filter, and put the finished product into a light resistant jar, stored in the refrigerator.
Can anyone confirm this method will work, or won't work? The reason I ask is I was saving keif to make a tincture but started wondering how I was going to decarb the keif. If this won't work as I suspect, how would I decarb the kief? Will using a double boiler to boil off the alcohol be enough? If I am making a small batch should I add extra alcohol so it will take longer to boil off giving it enough time to properly decarb? Also can I throw in my wand hash & grinder reclaim (both were reclaimed using iso & devaporating it all)? I know the wand hash is already decarbed but was worried about using the iso to reclaim it. I don't think it should pose any problems as the iso completely evaporated.

- if Vicki says it works, then it works.

That is your confirmation right there.

and to answer some of your questions. I personally do not ingest anything that has been reclaimed with ISO. However some do.

the double boiler should be enough, (but not sure exactly whether it would reach the correct temp) & you can add extra alcohol to be sure it will just evap off.

It will work but a decarb'd tincture would be stronger by activating more cannabinoids. You can decarb hash/kief just like herb normally but it usually needs a couple minutes less decarb'ing then herb. If your using pressed hash I would reccomend breaking it up and exposing more surface area. I double wrap my vessel in foil to help prevent cannabinoids from volatizing off, and provide more consistent heat.

I've been using that method for over 6 years, and it has never failed me yet.

i've not had issues with making tinctures stronger.
1 jar filled with herb or abv cover with ever clear and let sit over night.
fill a 2nd jar with herb or abv and pour the everclear from the 1st jar into the 2nd.
keep on going till you decide you're done.

i do this with both everclear tinctures and glycerin tinctures.
when using everclear, once i'm done i mix it with honey then cook off the alcohol. spoonfuls of honey are pretty easy to swallow.

Dammit. I made a batch of qwiso today and forgot to use the French Press. I had just read about that recently..

Hey guys, just want to make sure I'm understanding a few things.

What do you guys mean by "decarb?" For me that means to remove carbonation from a beverage, obviously in this context it means something different.

I have 8oz of old (over 6 months of sitting in an open container) ABV that I've held onto for no particular reason. Now that I've found this forum I have a wonderful reason and feel really smart for not tossing it all (even though I've certainly tossed at least as much over the last year).

My plan:

I have several mason jars of varying sizes up to 1qt.
I have a strainer that is made out of plastic.
I have 8oz of ABV that was used with a volcano.
I have 800mL of everclear.

First, I'm going to put ABV in one of the 1qt. mason jars about 2/3 full.

Then I'm going to cover that with everclear.

After that I'm going to use my electric teapot to heat some water to 170F, I will maintain water temp at this point (I'm good at controlling water temps, I'm a homebrewer).

I'm going to place the mason jar with ABV and everclear into the hot water and boil the alcohol for approx 30min at 170F.

Then I will strain this concoction into a separate jar and save for use.

I understand this isn't going to taste very good. I plan to mix the tincture with fruit juice for consumption. I'm not worried about minimizing the amount of ethanol as I'll happily enjoy those effects along with the added effects.

Any problems with my plan? If it takes very long for a response I'll just check back for some possible lessons learned as I'm ready to get this started right now.

Edit: would it make sense for me to strain this into a jar with MORE ABV in it and repeat the process until I've used up all my ABV?

Decarb is decarboxylation which is normally using heat to remove a carboxyl molecule from THCa, otherwise the THC cannot be absorbed through edible administration. This isn't a concern for you though because ABV has already been decarb'd by vaping http://skunkpharmresearch.com/decarboxylation/

For your second question, yes I would at least transfer it once or twice to limit the amount of ethanol used for a half pound of your chosen botanical :brow: and the amount of reducing you would need to do later. :2c:

I was messing around experimenting with different combinations on mixes and came up with something kind of cool.

1. I ran 2 oz. of good quality material into a Pyrex measuring cup. (two cans)

2. Let the butane evaporate down about half way.

3. Pour in a half liter of 96% pure cane ethyl alcohol and let it react to extract the butane.

4. Moved the measuring cup to a griddle at 160 degrees and let it evaporate down about 2/3.

5. Put it in the freezer for 72 hours then ran it through a coffee filter to remove the waxes.

6. Allow liquid to get to room temp.

7. Returned to the griddle and mixed in 30% PG.

8. Mix, mix, mix.

The vape is a clear light golden color that vapes real nice and packs a punch.

I’m considering mixing in a few drops of real honey for flavor on the next try.
