The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Does anyone know what millimeter the heating element is? I'm asking because I was think about taking a tuff bowl and it putting it on an 18mm male to male adapter and then putting a glass VaporGenie filter on top of that.

. . . Am I dismissing the bag option too easily? I like to chill with a joint taking drags whenever I want so just thought a whip would be the closest thing to this. Its down to da Buddha or extreme q now, so da Buddha will give me better hits and is the best whip only model? . . .

Dbv, extreme q or ev2 which is best

The bag is good for group sessions, especially with newbs (although veterans and stone-cold smokers often want stronger hits). Or for just sipping and zoning, when you don't want to fiddle with your whip setup. But if you have fine quality herb, you'll miss some of the taste with the bag, and bag vapor tends to get stale before long (>half-hour) and lose a bit of its potency (to condensation on the walls of the bag), too.

On the other hand, for the Q to hit as big as the DBV, IME that requires the elbow-pack which adds more drag than I like. And a bit more work.

If you think you'll have a use for bags and/or you want flexibility and/or you want nifty features like a remote, the Q is the best choice. If you're looking for no-frills slam-bam big hits, the DBV or SSV.

The glass joint which holds the heating element, on top of which the cyclone/tuff bowl sits, is a standard 18/19mm male. Sorry, I don't follow the setup you're trying to make.

What about the ev2?

I assume you mean the Eclipse. I'm not familiar with it, other than what I've read. Looks like it's more for concentrates/oils. IMO the Q vs the DBV vs the Eclipse is really apple-oranges-grapes. There are a number of threads here with posts re the Eclipse (just Search for "eclipse" in "Titles Only").

I think XGerpXDerpX meant the Epic Vape, or EV-2. It's similar in a lot of ways to the DBV/EQ with a ceramic element, GonG connection and whip, but with a wood body.

He's talking about the EV2 by Epicvape.

The E is a dual mode model and you should consider it strongly if you want to use both direct draw and bag fill with one vape. If you don't want to fill bags, the other two provide richer hits (more vapor per hit, not more vapor period). Of those two, the DBV has a variable temp control, while the EV2 just has two temp settings. For that reason alone, I'd choose the DBV. That doesn't mean others wouldn't prefer the EV2 for ergonomics, or even the E because they may prefer the way it hits, or value the digital readout, etc.

They're all quality models and it's about preference, not "which is best", unless you specify 'best at what?'.

Oops. I googled EV-2 and only got Eclipse. The Epic, OK I understand. Again, I've had no first hand experience, looks like a nice log vape with a whip. There is this thread:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/epicvape-ev-1-ev-2.3692/

The Q is easier to compare to the DBV & Epic because the Q is an all-purpose bag/whip machine, the DBV/Epic passive direct draw only - fundamentally different. The DBV and Epic threads are still active, I would ask the question there.

EDIT: What Max said.

i couldn't help myself last night.. i gifted the EQ to a friend.. well i said here you can borrow it if you use it, and if you end up liking it, it's yours.. same thing hah.. i'll still see it on random visits and week ends ha.. i gave it to one of the only friends that seems to have an interest in vaping ATM, some others seem predetermined to be against it.. what ever though.. the friend i gave it to gets it enough to get a lot out of it from what i can tell.. i gotta bring the bags by.. that might win over some others ha.. i don't know why but bags seem to be more attractive to people that don't like vaping.. we'll see.. thanks for passing it down Stu:rockon:, i didn't need to get rid of it but i thought it might be the right move.. this person was like a vaporist w/o a vape.. and i had an extra.. also if i'm alone that vape is more than i really need.. since it's a good group vape i'm hoping it wins over others in the house

This may be a dumb question, but what's the benefit of cleaning the whip tube, outside of reclaiming resin? Will a cleaner tube mean better hits?

effcombustion,
Taste is affected by resin buildup.

So if I can visibly see some gunk, but I'm not bothered by the current taste, I should be ok? I've had my EQ for like 6 months, and have fallen out of love with it, so I'm looking to rekindle the fire ;) (basically, I feel like it hasn't been hitting well).

I don't think it's the heater cover or anything (visual inspection without opening it up doesn't show any cracks or whatnot) so I'm going to wash the elbow screens in ISO tonight (routine for those screens) and finally wash the screen inside the cyclone bowl (first time washing that one, ever). It looks clean, but from what I've been reading that can be deceiving.

I'm also going to cut off a foot or two from my whip, I think. I ordered a 5' silicone tube, with the same OD/ID measurements from Vapeworld, and it seems to have been working ok, but maybe losing that extra foot or two will make it work even better.

Any other tips for maximizing hits? I typically use the cyclone bowl with whips, and fill it about 2/3 of the way, or to just under the black. I stir frequently. I'm thinking about trying elbow packs with the whip again, but it's annoying trying to stir while it's in the elbow bowl.

If I were you I'd elbow pack and crank up the temp to 230 C (only if your using glass hitting this off the whip may be... unpleasant.)

Also I usually dont even stir the elbow pack, I just drop it all into the cyclone bowl and stir when I feel the flavor fading.

Right now I just hit off the whip directly, no glass or mods. Maybe I should change that and see if that improves things. I may also need a tolerance break. The wife and I have gotten in the habit of vaping and smoking small bowls during the same session, haha.

If you have complaints with how your Q is hitting then you should only be elbow packing (a clean screen is also critical). Here is my process:

Preheat Q + Cyclone + Elbow for at least 15m @ 210C.

Grind .05-.2g with SCS and dump onto plastic sheet.

Pull elbow off of Q and use it to suck up your ground weed into the elbow (sometimes I have to tamp a bit to fit bigger bowls). I also try to maintain suction as I place elbow back onto Q a few seconds afterwards (hopefully more weed stays wedged up there this way; this is more important for after regrind when the bud isn't all that sticky).

I take 3-5 slow drawing as big as I can take pulls @ 200C.

Empty elbow into grinder, regrind and revac into elbow.

Now I take 1-2 @ 200C / 1-2 @ 210C / 1 @ 230C.

After this my weed is medium brown and thoroughly vaped.

---

I'm also planning on grabbing some extra connectors to try it with my bong and some warm water (I wanna take some massive hits).

---

I have also noticed that the buildup on the outside of the elbow screen isn't even. Would hammering the bottom of the screen into a round shape improve how the elbow packs draw? I'm thinking about heating up a screen and testing this out today.

---

PS: I just ordered some silcon tubing too!

I understand I used the whip directly for a long time before I made the switch to using the Q with glass. (which I did just by buying some glass and plugging the whip right into the glass's 14mm connection)

To be honest the fact that your hitting bowls in between vape hits is probably the reason your experiencing difficulty. I had friends over this weekend one of em went to smoke a cig before the session. Everyone else didn't. Four of us went through a few grams of VERY HEAVY hits.

My friend claimed "not to be high" after two hours. I explained The smoke FEELS HARSH. Because the smoke IS HARSH. The vape feels like nothing thats because its nothing..other than THC. However the fact remains your getting high no matter what.

However I would do the elbow packing method if I were you. Grabbing some glass is another option, but use this as a rule of thumb. If you smoke as your vaping or before, your primarily going to feel the smoke.

Glad you and your wife are enjoying herbs together = )

Stay green my friend!

I hope you enjoy your tubing let me know how it works out as I am looking to order some silicon tubing very soon as well!

I urge you to try to the bong with the extreme Q you will get MUCH thicker hits.

As a owner of a 2 pc santa cruz shredder thank you for the elbow tip. I gotta try sucking my herbs into the elbow. Hopefully it works. It seems like you have a nice system working for yourself!

Hey guys, I have the v3 and after couple years, it finally crapped out on me today.

I woke up this morning to the turned off unit randomly beeping non stop with nothing on the screen. When you press the on button, It shows the number 4 on it. As if it is an error code. The beeping only stops when you unplug it. It doesn't heat up either.

Not sure what caused it, I am very careful with it. I have never even broken the heater cover . It doesn't even have any scratches on it.

I have emailed arizer with the issue and given them a picture of the screen and receipt.

I really hope they come through for me.

Just wanted to share with the board.

--------

EDIT: Arizer responded back and said the unit is out of warranty and would not be covered. Asked me to try swapping the power adapter. I suspect that the unit itself is crapped.

I really hope that isn't the case and I am not out of a couple hundred dollars. Not sure on how I feel about buying another Extreme either as I'm pretty upset at the reliability now

Here is a video of my symptoms if anyone wants to take a crack at it.

I'm not surprised at the suggestion to try swapping the power brick. It seems that is the component which by far fails or misbehaves most often. IIRC somewhere in this thread is the spec on the brick, if you want to give that a try.

I am surprised that the beeping and number displayed, apparently is not meaningful. Anyway, if it isn't the brick then I would suspect the mainboard. Aside from the brick and breaking the heater cover, I don't recall many reports at all about the unit failing otherwise.

Did you receive a quote from Arizer on doing a repair?

Sad day Steven...no-one wants their vape giving up.

You mention in your edit about having reservations about buying another Extreme as you feel the unit is not reliable, but in your original post you say you have had the unit for a couple of years....surely a couple of years is enough reliability ?

Hey thanks for getting back to me.
Ill try to locate another brick to experiment I guess, going to be hard locally to do locally and don't want to plop down money for just a brick.

I received a reply from Arizer and they said that error 4 code indicates faulty power supply or Circuitry. By circuity, I assume it means inside the unit itself and not inside the brick right?. He said that isn't repairable :( He also said to maybe try opening the unit and blowing canned air and clean it out. I opened mine up just now and things look pretty clean as it is. I was hoping a wire was disconnected or melted that could be soldered back on. I don't see any of the sort though but I am not savvy with electrical components.

Yeah I agree the couple years is enough but still... I took good care of it and didn't use it heavily. Just leaves a bad feeling behind knowing it can die out of the blue without warning or abuse. Ill live though

If I cannot fix it, there is a good chance I am going to get another Extreme as I cannot find another model vape that compares in features and price.

Arizer also has offered a discount on a new vape . 130 + 20ship + tax for a new Q without accessories. or 170 + sh + tax for a new Q with accessories

from what I see, ebay prices are cheaper than that. Does warranty still work with ebay?

Hi Steven. I'm sorry to hear about the health problems with your E. Was it new when you got it?
I ask because my EQ is still going strong and its been almost three years of being on most of the day, almost everyday. Also I don't think the version you have has been made for a long time.

yup, I bought it brand new, 3.5 years ago (just checked the date on the invoice)

mine is the original Extreme, not the extreme Q. Arizer has been selling it for couple years before the Q was introduced. I actually bought mine a few months before the Q was announced

I think it is just bad luck. Some fluke electrical gremlin. OR just a faulty power adapter brick (fingers crossed)

If you got a new one you would have a lot of spare parts from the start, like screens and extra glass parts including a heater core. That's what I'm going to consider doing when I'm in your situation. Being that I'm in California, it would be from Puffitup for $175 with the "extreme" coupon code. Hope that helps.
