Personally, I'd suggest to stop with the questions regarding material. Unless of course you're trying to incriminate someone. And for the record, I grow --and use-- chocolate mint, and agree whole-heartedly with CentiZen.

Hello, let's add some useful info to the gibberish :)

Here's a badly shot usage video for you guys, but hey, it's something. Nika is vaping mint in the Ascent Vaporizer.

FYI- I will likely take this down in a few days because I'm really not happy with it, but wanted to share.

Looks like alot of conduction going on there. I'd like some clarification on the air flow over the heater.
Is there any convection happening? I don't want another stinky fuming Pax.
Also, what is used to supply the power through the hinge to the heater? (where it swivels)
Thanks in advance.

thanks for the vid!

my guess is that if you turned this unit on and didn't draw on it, you could still cook the whole load...definitely looks like a significant amount of conduction going on.

she did a great job, but I would use someone with bigger hands next time. she made that unit look big!

Cloudy...
I saw a lot of conduction there. Even before puting the herbs inside, I saw a wisp of ¿vapor? when she opened it in 2:03 and when she put the herb inside it starts vaping in the same moment the herb touch the chamber...

This is really starting to look good. I wonder if production is starting or are they waiting with fingers crossed for parts.
I thought I noticed some conduction, hope it cools fast because it's cell phone looks would work when in public.
Thank you for the video too! Now if you could give FC members first dibs one the first batch that would be great.:)
The Ascent is looking great, please keep us in the loop because lots of folks are ready to throw you their money!

ShipDit,
The convection/conduction debate drives me nuts. From the video the Ascent looks like it has awesome vapor production and is very easy to use. What more could you want?
There was awesome vapor production,no doubt about it. But when the unit was opened there was noticeable vapor coming out.
As a stealthy type Vape that can be an issue. Not to sure about the vapor production either. Never vaped mint before so I don't know how it compares to weed as far a clouds go.
I'm not trying to be all negative, just trying to get any useful info before I can commit to buying one. I do like the updates and hope they keep coming.

As ShipDit said before me it is a matter of stealth for some. For others, they don't want to be losing any actives due to "off-gassing" from the conduction. Convection tends to be less harsh and better tasting as well. It's all personal preference and what suits you in the end.

maybe the mint is very easy to combust and this is the explain for the puff of vapor in the video...or maybe i say a stupid things and the boiling temp doesn't count in this case...
We all wait for a clarification, because if the puff is a direct conseguences of heavy conduction, for me is a little back step from the others conduction/convenction portable vape like the solo...
i hope not because the ascent is a fine piece of tecnology and i want to buy one ASAP!

Yeah the cameraman in the first minute was terrible lol!

But really Holy Shit! Does mint make extra vapor or something?? If that's similar to what can be expected with bud, this looks like a fog machine!

...I don't think that was mint...
Lol! Nice didn't even think about that!

Does anyone know how/if the swiveling bowl locks in place? To prevent any accidental swiveling or vapor leakage during use

Do you think the herb is just sitting on a hot surface like food in a frying pan, while you just suck the vapor that rises from the part of the herb that's contacting the hot metal? That's the old (and crappy) conduction design that cheap dome vapes use, and what you're wondering about being the dominant effect here. These days any decent design includes convection- a hot stream of air going through the herb. I don't think it's practical to avoid all conduction effect in a pocket portable. Your bowl would have to be heat resistant, lowering the efficiency of the design, and even then there would be ambiant heat in a more or less sealed unit. I'm wondering what pocket portable design DOESN'T have some conduction heating going on.

It doesn't have a latch but it surely clicks into place when closed to some degree, preventing an accidental bump/knock from opening it.

Does anyone know how efficient the Ascent will be with small loads? I typically only load about .10g at a time. I hope it's not like the Pax where you have to fill the bowl to get the best performance........

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
I think you all missed the line, unless I was brain dead(always a possibility), that she said she had already had stuff in there before she loaded it hence it was heating and vaping while she was talking before showing us the loading.

I think it will be exactly the same as the DV as far as conduction vs convection. So it will have an odor like most portables but I doubt it will be like a pax which is pure conduction.

I would say that this unit is a conduction vape there seems to be no convection going on at all in my opinion the bowl which slips out is the heater and as you draw on the mouth piece air goes through the grill past the ceramic heating element that surrounds the material in it slit is being heated by a ceramic then expelled through the air flow up wards.
Now I might be wrong there could be a element below that ceramic bowl still but it looks like there's no space, if ther was then I guess the air comes through the grill past the heating element and through the material then up the mouth piece this is convection.

A the beginning of the thread they said it was part convection and conduction so if that ceramic bowl doesn't heat up then there is a heating element below it , then its true convection but if the ceramic bowl is the heating element and the air passes through a allready heated material due to the heated ceramic bowl its a conduction vape like the pax.

It looks good but hard to say what type of vape it really is convection? Conduction?

To know we have to know more about the heating process and the placement of the heating element.

Time will tell.

Cheers, medical mark

All vapes are a combo in some degree. But I think this one is going to be closer to conduction than convection, based on what we've seen so far.

I here more argue conduction is a better thing then convection, so it's good news IMO. I don't think the vapor will be the same as shown when smoking bud compared to mint leaves. Also I have a small feeling they jacked the heat up to the highest setting to show off big vapor clouds. I don't think much vapor will actually be coming out of the unit once opened. Not to mention the new feature where the heat adjusts to a lower temperature every so often.
