IF THE WEED IS TURNING BLACK IM I OVERVAPING?
Yes that means your temp is really high, but please post questions in 'Ask FC'.

max,
Hello all,
I am from Rural Alaska and have been interested in vaporization for about 3 years now. Currently I am going to college and wanted a vaporizer with extreme efficiency. A few google searches later, I ended up here, which I now consider to be the best source of objective information on vaporizers.
My first vaporizer was the cheap homemade light bulb type, which works if you use it correctly, but I was not satisfied with it's inconvenience and burnt popcorn taste. So I went back to smoking. My second vaporizing experience was with hot knives heated on a hot plate to just the right temperature. Again it was inconvenient and after one too many of my friends burned themselves, I went back to smoking. My third vaporizer was with a cheap heat gun fit into a bong. I loved it, but none of my friends would embrace it, which made me a lonely stoner. My fourth vaporizer was a soldering iron on Amazon for like $15 with a 3 inch pyrex tube fit over the hot end. I would first hold the metal right to the 'whacky tobacco' and let it warm the metal bowl up. After it just starts vaporizing, I would fit the pyrex tube over the hot soldering end and draw slowly. My buddies and I would stir it and crush it and continue until someone inevitably combusts some material. Then, since it is very dry, we would just start smoking. In case you're wondering, I've never actually bought a vaporizer. A puppy chewed up the cord for my soldering iron recently.
So after researching for days for a better vaporizing experience, I've found this site. I ordered the Purple-Dayz, which seems to be beloved by all, on this forum. However, I may order the Myrtlezap instead, since they are of the same basic design. The brass doesn't even factor into my decision.
I am moving out of the place that I currently stay, in favor of somewhere smaller and quieter, and that's when I'll need a good home unit, so if the PD comes before I get tired of waiting, then I'll go with it, but if not, it's the MZ.
For the time being, I am considering the Magic Flight Launch Box. It sounds suitable for my current situation. However, from my experience working with electronics at a power plant and elsewhere, I think that I can design my own. It seems to consist of a resistor hooked to a battery. Shouldn't be too hard. Unless I factor in that I may be vaping in -50 F if I don't move soon.
Perhaps the Vapor Genie is my best bet, since -20 F is commonplace in my neighborhood. -50 F is a good time for a stony walk, since it is so quiet and peaceful. ;)

Hello to the vapor community!
I'm here because I am curious about vaporizing and just found this website. I've been smoking medicinal herb for the last 40 years or so. Been through a few changes over the years but still smoking and enjoying it. Work part time and spend as much of the rest of my time out of doors as possible - live in SoCal and like it here.
I had been thinking about the vaporizer concept on and off for a while - some years back when I was in school it seemed to me that if you could eliminate the vegetable smoke you would get a "cleaner" and more intense effect. Tried a few crude attempts at making a vaporizer (didn't know that name of course) but smoking was just a lot easier.
Then earlier this year my doctor recommended I use a vaporizer. After checking around the internet (but before I found this site) I decided to try a vapir oxygen mini. Reviews were ok, had temperature control and it was portable and concealable. Price seemed reasonable for a first attempt. After I got it I tried it a couple dozen times over a couple of months. Burned off the odors before actual use. Pre-heated as per directions, ground up herb as best I could, loaded carefully, set temperature as recommended. Was hard to draw but I could see vapor passing through the tubing - even saw it exhaled a few times; I did get some flavor in the vapor. Residual in unit was brown. But never seemed to have any effect, at all, either on me or on my smoking partner. Went through quite a bit of good quality herb, too. Finally gave up.
Then found this website. Does not seem from the FC thread on this unit that others have had the same problem. Now I am wondering if vaping just doesn't work for me, or if I am somehow using it wrong, as I have never had this problem before. Does anyone have any insights on this?

johnoh,
Try not to expose your herb to any heat before vaporization. Some people believe that the effects of marijuana are caused by synergistic effects of the turpenes and cannabinoids. These are often referred to, respectively, as the aromatics, or essential oils, and THC, which is a type of cannabinoid. Try using this soldering station.
http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-936-AOYUE-Soldering-Station/dp/B000VINMRO

Use it with any pipes or bongs that you own. It is important not to preheat the herb, because the turpenes have low boiling points. Turn that thing up to 390 F to get all the most important cannabinoids. Some cannabinoids have boiling points that are higher, but you will also get alot more bad stuff. If you don't mind an extremely harsh toke and some bad stuff, then turn it up to 423 F. At 423 F it is best to just hover the soldering iron over the herb.
At 390 F you should be able to hold the iron right up to the herb.

Hope this helps, I didn't want someone to spend to much money if vaporization isn't for them, so I recommended that cheap and effective soldering station. If it doesn't work, then at least you have a useful soldering station.
Go here for more information about using a soldering station with herb:

Thanks OHM - that was actually a huge help. Not the soldering station which I may try later, but I didn't realize the importance of higher temperature as the instructions with the vapir mini recommended relatively low temps. Tried again with it set at 400 and the difference was startling. This is really cool. I don't like the flavor but that's the cheap plastic that others have commented about. Thanks again!!!:D

Hi everyone! Not sure how a good girl like me wound up on a website called Fuck Combustion :o ... but here's my short history with vaporizing:

I just got my medical recommendation a few months ago, and being a late bloomer, was super excited about this whole new world that had opened up! I was using a little water pipe that I liked; except I'm a complete spaz with lighters (fire bad!). I tried my friend's vaporizer, a Vapor Brothers knockoff, and was blown away by the difference in taste and even the feeling it produced. I got super excited and started researching vaporizers, but most seemed plastic, pricey, or overcomplicated...

But two things derailed me pretty quickly. First, I got whooping cough that took nearly 2 inhale-free months to recover from. During which, I had a really, really terrifying trip from 1/6 of a medicated cookie!

So now I've sworn off combustion (for my lungs) and edibles (for my sanity)... I pretty much HAD to buy (ahem, charge) a vaporizer.

Was ready to buy a Vapor Genie, except for the whole "fire bad" thing ;); somehow The Google led me to the Magic Flight Launch Box, which I just got two weeks ago. So far I'm really impressed but realize there's a lot I have a lot to learn... unfortunately there's a lot of crap out there so I'm really glad I found an intelligent forum here.

Hi Johnoh!! Welcome!!

Hi Hugs & welcome too!! It is kind of a boy's club here but... you are not the only chick ;) There's a few of us! Welcome aboard! The launch box does seem to have a learning curve which I'm learning myself. Lots of good info about different styles of vapes here and I've already collected a few different vapes though I'm pretty new here myself!

I hope you guys will be happy vaping converts! I know I am :D

Hey Hey! Posted a few already but wanted to stop in here.

Been an avid smoker for many years. Had a tall perc. ROOR, a PHX, and a few other glass pieces. Been smoking the V Tower for awhile and am now moving to the Iolite for portability!

Good to be here!

msemcee,
New to the forum, only been smoking for a little over 6 months and I just recently started my venture into vaporizers. Myself and my girlfriend tried the old lightbulb vape quite sometime ago and it didn't work out well but since I've bought her the iolite we are hooked. Can't wait to get myself a table-top vape.

Anywho, I love these forums so far and will probably just observe mostly, but I thought it would be good to at least get one post to my name.

happy vaping!

Hey all-

Now I understand what all the vapor fuss is about. Got my first vape today. A Buddha. No burning popcorn taste? Ya, I'm digging it. This is a little better than the light bulb. ;)

The only time I'd used a real vape was in Amsterdam 12 years ago, so I want to thank FC and everyone on here for all the info and opinions that gave me the knowledge to make a well researched decision. With the info I gathered here, I was able to get very positive results from my DBV right out of the box. I'm hooked. I only wish I'd found something like this 20 years ago. :D

Hello, Im from Southern California and recently got into vaporizers. I found out about FC when searching for info about the PD and MZ. I recently purchased a MZ and can't wait. I've been a medical user for a little over a year and also collect some glass. Oh and I'm a female. The username is in honor of my hero.

Hi!
Greetings from here North!

Just recently found FC and been enjoying reading it. I have own Volcano for about a year now and can't complain. :D When I found this site I found out about PD. Never heard of it before. Seemed really nice piece and because of great EUR to USD ratio I placed order. Now just waiting impatiently :uhoh:
Sorry WOV, but you're late to the PD game. Currently, Vapenow is the only source for ordering a PD, and they only ship to North America.

"Due to issues with power supplies and warranty coverage, we're no longer able to ship the Purple Days outside of North America. Any orders shipping to addresses outside of North America will be canceled." http://vapenow.com/index.php/Purple-Days-Vaporizer-p-266/

The only way you'll be able to obtain a PD is to arrange for someone in the states or Canada to receive your unit, then ship it to you in Finland. And then you'll have to obtain an AC adapter with the proper electrical rating. IMO, it's worth the trouble if you can find someone to help you out.
