Get Creative! Help to design the optimal GonG tobacco water pipe adapter for the all new Ascent Vaporizer!

The idea:

Build a glass adapter (mouthpiece stem) that would take place of the current glass mouthpiece and fit perfectly into a water pipe. So essentially you remove the glass stem mouthpiece and replace it with the adapter piece. The adapter must allow the Ascent to stand upright when in usage and plug directly into a water pipe with a 14mm-19mm fitting. See a picture of the current mouthpiece for reference.

The contest:

FOR FC MEMBERS ONLY! Design the Gong tobacco water pipe attachment piece.

Note: the specs don't need to be perfect, I really just need the design. Please keep it ALL glass, and think about tension points and breakage. Ends 3/15.

The grand prize:

Ascent vaporizer of choice, a water pipe adapter once they are produced AND an upgraded DaVinci complete with car charger and snorkel.

Rules:
  • A winner will be chosen from entrants whether we use the design or not.
  • Your info will not be used for any marketing purposes.
  • Multiple entries encouraged!
  • International participants welcome.
  • Hand sketches are okay.
  • Design must be all glass.
  • End 3/15.
Please submit entries in this thread, or submit to: contest@davincivaporizer.com and include your handle in the email.

All posts should be entries or questions about specifications.

IDEA 1: this is crude but it would keep it upright. the only problem is i dont know how tightly the ascent holds the tube. if its too loose this will just slip right out.

IDEA 2: How about a proprietary bubbler? Think an aqua vape with a longer straw that would take the place of the stock mp but, still small enough to maybe fit in some sort of pocket-able travel tube. I don't have anything drawn up but, it's pretty self explanatory if your familiar with the AV.

This is a very crude, but functional solution: Just use a silicone "skirt" to mate a male GonG piece (I used 14.4mm below, but 18.8 would be just as easy) to the existing glass straw. Not overly elegant, I know, but it would be functional for a HT hookup IMO.

Davinci - can you explain how one would remove the glass stem for replacement? is it simply pulled out from the top and a new one dropped in or are these inserted from the bottom?

The Idea I have. The stem that would go into the Ascent would be the same length as the removable draw stem 3" or so then go out 2.5" or so from the ascent And 4" or so down to the gong adapter (angled somewhat between __ and __ degrees:shrug:) for the water pipe that would be stepped 14mm at the bottom, and the upper at 18/19mm so you would only need 1 adapter no matter the size of your water pipes down stem.
fN1ik41.jpg

The thought is that after you attach it to the Ascent/water pipe you could allow the wpa stem to extend out (like the regular draw tube) to allow the Ascent to rest on the table while you take a hit then it would retract into the device when you pull it up off the water pipe to clear it.

All glass, of course. One piece, no moving parts.

I would totally buy this. :)

I've kept the original stem in this design because it seems the most delicate part of a piece like this. As a customer, I'd rather replace a broken stem than a larger bong adapter.

are the dimensions of the Ascent the same as previously stated?

4.47" (119.36mm) tall, 2.24" (56.85mm) across and 1.03" (26.04mm) wide.

And could you provide a ballpark for the weight of the unit? Thank you

EDIT: Also, what are the dimensions of the glass tube that the Ascent uses??

So im just wondering y the adapter has to make the Ascent stand upright.... do you have to use it upright because i can use my DV2 upside down. It seems like that just over complicates things. I was under the impression that it was going to be simple like the solo... people that combust with a bong will have a lighter in hand and simply light, so they have that lighter hand free when vaping.
My bong is a cheapy with a standard slide out glass bowl (not sure what size) it cost $30. But the bowl stem comes out at an angle so some of these previous entries with the U stem would work but the Ascent would be tilted as my stem is angled.,.... make it simple DV, sometimes simple is best.. just make a straight tube adapter then the person just holds the ascent in their hand, puts it in the stem, hit on the bong, remove Ascent from stem (like a carb), gently set down your ascent and start choking. The ascent would be upside down but it should still work fine (if the bowl is full)....

If its a matter of the LED screen being upside down while inserted which i dont think that is a big deal but u could use some of the cellphone technology (gravity sensor) that flips the readout when the unit is flipped. If that tech is beyond your capabilities maybe press two buttons or hold a button to flip the screen.... or just don't worry about it i don't think people will mind. But i definitely want to know if you can use the ascent upside down. Let us know DV

I think it is so if you are using oil it won't be pulled out into the water pipe. But I'm not 100%?

A little too vaked to properly diagram this but I can put it into words.

This is rather simple but who said things need to be complex? Number 1 will be the standard ascent tube with an 18mm joint. This would allow hydrotubes and other pipes like them to be used. Number 2 would fit on 1 to allow usage on pipes that have female joints(some clearance away from the ascent will be necessary). 3 Would extend past the end of the ascent(after being joined with 2) thus allowing those with dewar joint pieces to use the ascent. I think I have most all glass available covered. Those with oil rigs would just need a female-to-female to hook up with 2.

This would save you money and prevent people having to buy an expensive unique glass accessory. These could be bought separately so you only get what you need. If one would happen to break you could just buy another.

My submission:
Option 1.
The GonG bundle will come with the following pieces:
1. A replacement for the existing mouthpiece that is similar - but the inside of the mouthpiece will be ground glass - if possible maybe flare out the mouthpiece a little bit
2. A male to male ground glass GonG piece such as this one to mate to any standard device (either 14mm, 18mm or simply offer both) One side will have to be smaller to fit into the existing mouthpiece
7nu3lg6owmvn60jb12j7.png

Pros
1. You can have this on the market very quickly and at an affordable price point
2. I think this is a big deal: You won't have to swap out straws every time you want to use the water tool, this is a very quick and convenient "drop in" exchange
3. The smaller the glass piece the more durable it is and makes the whole setup more portable when using a water tool

Cons
This will have to be upside down for a lot of water pieces - so concentrate use will be limited

Option 2.
1. Comes with the same replacement ground glass mouthpiece as above
2. Comes with 2 of these pieces connected with tubing
gzt810m122gugm6pz14q.png

And lastly (and optional) - comes with a small plastic stand for the Ascent Vaporizer for true "hands free" use (I am not sure if you were planning to include one anyway)

Pros
1. Still relatively affordable, compact and easy to bring to market
2. Still a "drop in" solution that makes it easy to switch the Ascent from regular mode to water tool mode.
3. Effectively solves the "upright" problem for concentrates use
4. Extends vapor path to provide incremental cooling
5. No need for a mating skirt like Stu's suggestion above - This is an all glass/Medical grade tubing solution

Yes you are correct, one would just simply pull out the glass stem and drop another in. They are pulled out and inserted from the top.

Remember guys, the Ascent needs to stand upright to do essential oils..the oil jars have a lid, but I'm thinking its likely that most people won't use them..so it cause a mess.

The Ascent dimensions listed above are correct and it weighs a little over 1b.

Thanks to all that are bringing forth the good ideas! I can't wait to bring one of them to market. Talk about a community built vape :)

Please make adjustable or optional heights on the attachment. I don't think that would work on a Mobius Ion or Clear because of the central stemless design. I think the best thing to do is to send me one (and an Ascent) so I can report back for all the glass heads.

There's no smiley but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not serious, because we have a rule:

One thing I wanted to clarify - if the diameter of the mouthpiece is too small to accommodate a male ground glass fitting, the polarity would have to be reversed - IE the mouthpiece becomes a male piece fitting with ground glass on the outside

So sorry stu, but ihad a similar idea. Just a small gong adapter, similar to stus but instead os silicon, make it so the gong slips directly onto the original glass stem. Or maybe create a new stem that the gong would come withthat doesnt havethe lip aroundthe one end so it slips over easier. My inspiration came from the T1 gong adapter here http://thermovape.force.com/IdaProductDetail?id=01t50000001qlGbAAI
I can draw a picture but i doubt the would help

Edit: maybe make a mini stem for the gong, so it sticks out of the ascent at a perfect distance to allow the gong to attach. Also maybe create a notch in the stem for an o-ring to secure the gong
