The HI

yes, it can combust, but I have my voltage set just right, so lately I have not been getting any combustion, though the top of the bowl might look a little dark by the end. I have lit cherries with this thing though, on higher voltage settings. Over all, I find the HI a fantastic vape, and have not had much trouble at all dialing it in to be just right.

Hey Jam - Nice vid, thanks for posting! What voltage are you using? I tend to get stuck in a groove and need to do some more experimenting. For now I seem to like 12.1 volts with Alan's glass GonG tubes but it can get dicey at times if the load crumbles and gets too fine.

Sorry if you have already posted this info in the past, I have read every post in this thread but it is hard to go back and find things when I need to.

I am finding that combustion is a product of the heat energy being input and the surface area to which that heat energy is being applied. Stirring or grinding creates more surface area which can lead to combustion. Stirring can also block air flow which prevents heat energy from being taken away and it builds up. I have been just placing unground material in the tube and then pressing it into a flat top plug. The air flows evenly through the plug and heats up the entire mass. I am amazed at how clean the screen has been staying. I'm roasting with a fixed voltage power supply at around 12.2V.

jam - Thanks for posting the video. Filling the glass quite well.

so that means that with the HI no stiring + not too fine grinding makes it harder to combust?

No, that does not mean that. Combustion will definitely depend on Temp, and ability to move air through or around material. However the number one variable to combustion is temp.

ye i got that but what i am saying is that if i got it well alan said that with the HI its better to not stir or grind too fine...wich compared to other vaporizer i had untill now its a bit different...

There are many different ways to utilize the HI. Consequently, you will have to make adjustments with each setup whether it be using a solid roasting tube, nylon with SS tip, glass nipple, ect. You will also have to make temp changes when vaping dry versus vaping through H2O.

temp changes u mean by the way u draw or by the voltage input on the adapter?

I'm loading my roasting tube similar to how you load a Vapolution glass roasting tube but forming it into a single plug rather than leaving them as pellets. Good air flow is key as with the Vapolution.
The HI is definitely a versatile device. So many fun ways to roast. So many yet to discover.

I'm running mine at 12.1 right now, and have not been getting combustion, though the SS tip the load will look pretty black on top when I am done, but it does not taste burned. I have combusted several times when trying to dial in the voltage, settled on 12.1v because I was getting constant results with that an my SS tip. I do use the glass stems, just not as often as the SS tip. I like being able to just drop the HI on the ss tip and go hands free for a couple of hits. Then it's spent, and I reload. I'm sure draw speed also plays it's role, each bubbler requires different draw speed. This Mobius Clear has the most even.steady pull of all the glass I have used. Some of the others that have that chug feeling tend to draw differently, like the airflow is being interrupted by the chug... if that makes any sense...

Thanks for info. I am trying to master the SS tip and still need to test Alan's latest method. Makes perfect sense and I agree with you on all accounts - especially the matrix perc being super smooth with a nice even draw. I think that is why I prefer it at the moment and it also has a really nice sound when pulling. Reminds me of rain falling and is so relaxing. : )

Dang... I don't have a Matrix. Now, I feel I'm not getting the full HI experience.

Alan... I'm sending this one back. Think I'm just going back to MFLB and try to hunt down a good glass VG, rolling dry hits! Once I dump this other crap glass. ;)

PS. I think the Sumac, while a softer hardwood, is still a good choice. While it does dent easily, its also more forgiving as the wood has some cushioning give. It doesn't get too hot, is a good warmer, hands and other sore spots.

On the SS tip, I found if I stuff it full, but don't really pack it, just press down the top so it's not sticking up, it gives me 2 solid, full milky can hits, and maybe a 3rd smaller hit, with out stirring, and then it's done. I also noticed that the load won't blow out of the bowl if it's not done. I usually use the suck method to fill the bowl.

Everyone has their own interpretation of this song. They think he was pissing on religion, promoting communism, blah, de blah, blah. Love it, hate it. Hold it up, blow it down.

In my opinion... It is one of the most incredible, beautiful, legendary pieces of music, both lyrically and instrumental. A true classic. Song chokes me up a lot, takes me back to a better time. I remember when my mom got this album. Wow... must have spun on the record player 24/7. And the message, it isn't ANY of those things. Its true beauty was in his wishes for an absence of all the bad things, all the things he mentioned... bring with them. If that makes any sense. I won't ever join the mind-think of bashing John Lennon. No way. He was way too much of an impact on music and my life personally. Though, I do poke fun at Paul (and he's my favorite. lol). He's still an idiot. :D
