Discontinued Thermovape Cera

Im all my experience with the CEO i would say that you dont need to clean it much if at all. What i do for my basic usage cleaning is just run it empty and do a 20-20 burn. This will clean off any impurity buildup around the coil so that your next load will taste nice and fresh. Note; the vapor produced as its running dry wont taste the greatest as its mostly just impurities being vaped off.

An ISO wash and water boil are typically for those of you who want to clean it up before traveling, this will get rid of most the smell and give it a near new look.

Cheers,
Tim

So I have two questions,
can I use cera LL with hash? (or a combination herbs/hash?)

And second, any tips on how often I should boil/soak the LL core?
I swipe it now and then with iso so it stays clean and I don't want to boil it every week or so if not needed.
How can I see if it's time to clean the LL core? Does it perform less as an indication it should be cleaned?

Two excellent questions, the first one's easy, yes LL Cera will do a bang up job on your hash......bet the rent. What you have is sometimes called 'pressed hash' I think. It's basically bubble (resin glands mechanically removed) pressed hard so you need to 'unpress' it. Sometimes heating with a match and crumbling will do it, sometimes you have to grind or chop. Remember, it's a surface game, you want hot air on surface.....lots and lots of lovely surface.

As long as you're wiping the bowl clean enough to suit you I'd say go with it. Unlike the oil cart, contamination doesn't build up where you can't easily see it (and remove it). Boiling offers no advantage unless you need it sanitary. Just enjoy it. It won't degrade like the oil carts, nothing to watch for.

so i just ran through whateve pure gold was in my cera. FWIW i definitely got more than 36 inhalations that noah got on video. Noah must take some monster rips!

To those who have done cleanings before: should i torch clean my core before i put anything more in there? or should i just load her up and clean later? im getting some gurgling when she gets hot but not much meaningful vapor. ive already ran through 4+ grams of oil $ wax. i am hesitant to do a boil or iso because im heading back to the hospital to see grandpa in a few hours and i need to have cera on hand and ready to go. the family really enjoyed using the cera last night. it brought the tension down tenfold.

all advice is appreciated

Hey, I think we'll be lucky if we don't end up burying Cera Cloud Chasers trying to be 'just like Noah'.....or worse still trying to 'break his record'. Now there's an Olympic event worth watching!

I've only cleaned twice, the first time was clearly a mistake. The second time it was by no means fouled out but I needed to get the same oil in two different cores to the same level. Both times I lost about .25 grams (closer to .2 the second time), even though it'd run it pretty dry first. Boiling does more than soaking I think, by all means boil first. Soaking worked best in a vial I found that was a fairly tight fit so inverting it forces ISO into the unit some. Otherwise I don't think it changes down deep much. I also found boiling after ISO did a good job on getting the ISO out, even 'burning it dry' doesn't seem to get rid of the ISO smell/taste very well.

I'm not at all sure about torching, thus far I see no need. I think it'll be interesting to see how the cores hold up to routine torchings, for sure I wouldn't be doing it with SS versions.

My current plan is to try a 'boil only, sparingly' approach.....being both lazy and cheap. If that no longer works, then I'll consider escalation.

Thanks for the response OF.

I decided not to clean yet and instead loaded her up with some of this (approximately three pieces the size of the ones in the photo). its an extremely fragrant white widow crumble. I think it is actually the best tasting concentrate ive put in the EO core so far. it has this lavender taste that is just unreal. the vapor production with it is unreal too.

if anyone has any chalky type EOs laying around i suggest you move it up the line if your trying different things out right now. its going to be a bit hard to get it absorbed. to avoid cooking the oil while loading I will heat up the end of a paperclip and gently stir until the crumble turns into a sap like consistency. then just pulse the heat and maybe gently blow into the MP.

hope someone finds this info useful. if not then just enjoy the pic.

The oil carts can (and do usually) foul out. They loose capacity, take longer to heat and can give poor taste. Contamination does not build up in LL carts so this doesn't happen.

OF

Oh ok. Thanks for the answer. Any idea how long a cartridge might last? Like in terms of grams of concentrate used before it goes bad? A guess is fine, I won't hold you to it. ;)

You're welcome.

It doesn't really go bad. Depending on the concentrate it will foul out and you have to break down and clean it. Unlike competitors, the carts are basically intended to last years. You can boil them (most effective I think), wash it out with solvent (ISO and the like) or burn it out.

As a wild guess I'd expect a couple dozen grams (50 fillings) with low to average concentrates and several cleanings before sending it in for a fifteen dollar rebuild. That's close to a thousand dollars of oil at local prices. The rebuild is a fraction of the sales tax on that. Don't loose it, it's basically a lifetime buy.

I was late on my post Thanks

If I remember correct the carts can be "refurbished" by TET for a fee. Is that correct. Thanks

Of I have given up on the thumb toggle. After you pointed out its down falls. The idea was cool.

I still really want a latching switch for my LL cart.

My new toy just got here.
Wow.
First pull on the LL had me coughing so hard I drooled down the front of my shirt.
If you can get a good hit on a t1 then you can get a monster on the cera.
Exact same method. Heat. Puff. Pull.

Hey guys here's a few HD videos of the CEO in action on a couple different WP's! Happy Friday all!!

First one is via the evolver hydracirc tube from the VapeXHale Cloud (my favorite WP for Cera so far, since it keeps things upright and has almost no drag. also, don't mind the wobblyness--was trying to keep my hands from obstructing the view :p)

Second one is via the Mobius Matrix Perc tube--beastmode!

Hopefully these links work alright, never made videos but wanted to share! Bonus props if you can guess where i got the lid i show off at the start of the vids...;)

Ordered a bunch more goodies from TET (thermal cap, delrin drip tip, etc) as well as a backup set of the 18650PD 2900's, so in a week or so i should be unstoppable muahah! that is....given an unlimited supply of concentrates...now where to find that...lol...:D

EDIT: Also, an observation to follow-up on my post about carrying cases. I took the Cera to work this week and noticed when i got in my car at lunch the smell was pretty strong inside. So that may be one big drawback of a soft/zipper case vs a hardshell case, which may be a bit more airtight.

Over the falls, in a barrel
Cera is a beauty. A little smaller in person than I expected, and the weight is just as others have said. Noticeable, but feels nice to me in the hand. Loose leaf cart only, by the way.

Got some nice big hits after quelling my haste and thinking back to allll the reading I've been doing for months. :ko: Funny how it slipped away for a bit once I got the thing in my hand! Now all the tips are coming back and actually being used, turning into tangible results. The taste is really amazing!! Prior to this I'd only vaped out of a launch box, and I do enjoy the taste of the 'box, but this is making my herbs taste new to me.

I went at it once without the thermal cap; that didn't last long. The silicone helps a lot, though I am looking forward to the eventual body sleeve: you don't want to grab anywhere above the saftey pin hole. Ouch. I'm waiting for the battery to recharge for now as I only ordered one 2900 battery.

One question, the stainless steel bit of the loose leaf core, the part that screws in to the body, has a little bit of 'play'. It wiggles a little in the ceramic housing. Is it anything to worry about?

AHHHHH! I got mine! But I just got home and am charging batteries! Will post a review in a bit, far to busy to do anything but make sweet love to Cera.

But I do have a question, I have a CGR18650CH Li-Ion, protected button top 2500, can I charge that on the same charger (that TET sent) as the NCR18650PD Li-Ion battery that TET is now supplying (one I got in my package) at the same time?

Will the protected battery work on the TET supplied charger?

Yup, 'true rumor'. It's $15 for the rebuild once it's out of warranty. You can also get 'reasonable' changes in power that way.....

It was a cool idea, and it has a real advantage when testing since you can read the delivered voltage on the shaft, but it just doesn't work well for it's intended use.....yet. May never, of course.

The latching switch (in some form) I'm confident is going to happen. My kluge is doing just fine so it's not an impossible deal. Lots of inventive guys are already looking at it, with more to come.

FWIW I still like the momentary with oil.

Great videos, thanks. That's about how it happens to me too, if I let it.....

The cigar humidor I'm using is of course vapor tight. Perhaps a heavy zip lock bag inside the soft case?

One question, the stainless steel bit of the loose leaf core, the part that screws in to the body, has a little bit of 'play'. It wiggles a little in the ceramic housing. Is it anything to worry about?

No, in fact it's necessary. Worry if it's not happening? The SS and ceramic are going to expand and contract at different rates. They could easily wreck the show (break the ceramic I'd think) or fall apart. TV did a very clever thing IMO. If you check closely the four screws let the two parts 'float' relative to each other.

The trick is repeated when it came time to fit the plate the cart screws into. It sits on a rubber ring for give and has four screws as pins same as the cart.

Simple, sound, and stable. IMO another example of excellent engineering in our favorite vape.

Big time. Remember that's a high rate charger you've got there. Kinda rough on lower grade batteries, but on 'the good stuff' it top notch. Go for it.

I love seeing all these "I got mine!" posts. I'm still waiting on mine, so I get all anxious.

And jealous.

Oh well. Still got my trusty ol' T1!

Not to worry, yours is coming. I saw it the other day when I was by. You remember that big old stack of tubes from the vendor? Well part of it's still there (it's a lot smaller though.....). Yours must be there if it's not out on one of the benches being assembled.

Good show with the T1, it's a champ for sure. Tell it soon it's new cousin will be coming. Don't tell it it's going to be seeing a lot of lonely days after that?

Thanks as always for the info, OF. I can't imagine what the Cera launch would have been like around here without your knowledge and wisdom helping to keep things "real". Well, I almost can. It wouldn't have been pretty!

Yeah, I guess I agree. In little bits is just very solid engineering, but put the pieces together and add in incorporating the improvements Members recommended and the Cera is a clear step forward. Leap, even. "Brilliant!" is just about right...... Top notch materials, simple solid design, everything working well together to get the vapor out. And available to one and all for mere money. Cool.

And wow, thanks very much for the kind words. Makes a guy blush. I just got lucky, with lifetime skills and experience that relates, being freshly retired, having TV be so close (25 miles) and of course huge interest. The real key is of course 'the TV guys'. They are the ones with the hot ideas and dedication. And they're the ones that were open and honest.

Not to mention without FC and IMO more importantly timely Moderation by Pak the venue would have evaporated away leaving the information to wilt. IMO the Mods are the unsung heroes here, keeping the BS out so the useful information can flow. Without them, literally, we wouldn't be having this exchange at all. We are truly blessed at many levels for sure.

Many others could no doubt do the same thing.....and I could (along with many of them) do the same sort of thing for other makers. But that's not what's happening. Clearly the difference is the maker. They need to invite you (or in this case, me) in and level with you. That takes a mighty exceptional outfit to do it in the unrestricted way they did, you have to be awfully confident of the project to invite a guy with a big mouth like me inside. Off hand I don't think I've ever heard of 'Open Beta Testing', for sure I never did it before. They took a huge risk to include the FC family into the washing of the linen. I was, and am, under no agreement to 'pull punches'. That's super cool, IMO.

Thanks again. Makes a guy feel good inside. Maybe it's time to wonder out to the garden with the tool in question and see if I can improve on that a bit more. Sun's out and it's warming up and the birds will want feeding. I don't think I'll take that new Ti oil cart, that sucker still scares me sometimes.

I'm sorry but I thought the original latching switch would automatically pulse the Cera on an off, to prevent overheating.

Or this is at least what OF and TV first said.

Putting those videos together was an exercise in brain melting! I did a few earlier takes but the viewing angle was wrong, i'm just glad i survived the onslaught of medication hehehe :o

Yeah i'll probably go with a heavy zip lock bag for now. My friend suggested i find a giant cigar tube for Cera to keep the smell from escaping so much---not a bad idea either, if i can find a huge enough tube lol. Then again who cares about smell, where i live it's not even probable cause anymore. Fuck yeah legality. :brow:

Those are some neat points about the clever/solid engineering that goes into these puppies. Thanks, very cool.
