Soul Shine Family Glass

Good choice going with SSFG I just got two straight tubes with showerheads. Now I wish I would have got a beaker as well for combustion of flowers. I been using one of the straight tubes and it does not hold enough water it ends up a smelly bong in a few hits even if I change and flush the water after every hit. If your going to use it for combustion get the disk slide.
Glass that have very low water volumes are perfect candidates for:

I used to prefer beakers but now I love how quickly a straight tube clears the hit.

I went with the straight tube for the lesser volume, variety (I own a larger beaker already), and hopefully for more drag free hits. I've heard such great things about ssfg I can't wait. Anyone have travel tube pics they want to share? I've been looking around and found a few beaker pics but no straight tubes.

I have never seen the Rez Block, I might have to order some just out of curiosity.

Your right about the drag free part I love it also love to fill my lungs and only when I think I can't take anymore I pull the bowl off and clear. I don't do pics but maybe this video will give you what your looking for your slide might be way smaller .3 think one hitter but I would you have another bigger 19mm slide. I'm also looking at getting the Rez B.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with soul shine family glass, specifically their diffusers. I am ordering a Travel Sized Straight tube and was wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to the showerhead. I've tried searching but didn't have any luck.

So if anyone can recommend if the diffuser upgrade is worth it, or even better if someone has pictures comparing the different styles that would be great.

Thanks

I have a great relationship with Allison and Ray Verling (owners of SSFG). As others have pointed out and you luckily did... the showerhead is a world of difference. Ray is also the guy that got me into inlines. My experience with them, prior to his pieces truly sucked. He's nailed the art of making them, him and his apprentice, Dave M.

But, yeah... I have the travel beaker w/ showerhead and it still gets regular use, even being one of my cheaper pieces. Just cleaned it out, last night after a few days use.

I got my Straight Travel Tube in the other day (been busy and haven't been able to post yet) I really love it. I would have been upset with myself if I did NOT go for the shower head. The height is exactly how I was hoping in my mind.
Here's some pics, can someone comment on my water level and tell me if it should be more or less? Thanks!

Water level looks fine to me. I run it about that high, in the beaker to. Ray's showerhead is a must have! It stacks my travel beaker with ease, when its clean, fresh water.

Working on some more videos. Want to get a series going, for all the percs I can catch on camera and do, some decent justice. Plus, a little uniformity.

Enjoy! HD as always, watch it blown up!

Just in time for my second cup of coffee BDV.... Really digging some of the new effects you're using in your vids; especially the slow mo action.

I want a better camera. I got most of the stuff, with my old gear... but even today's smartphones record better quality stuff. Drives me up a wall, how the focal point keeps changing. Though, I need to get in the habit of anchoring the pieces better. I actually did, on the DR.

Just going to have to drop a bit $$$ here in the future. Plus, I need/want a tripod, to give me a lot more flexibility.

WOOT!

Just heard from Allison today! Weather permitting, she mailed it today... or its going out tomorrow!

I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it.
I'm about to lose control... and I think I like it.

EDIT: Correction, I read it again. She wasn't able to get it out. Though she mentioned Ray stayed late to fit it in, with the customs (mine isn't a custom job. standard, badass, kickass, Ray Verling inline! If its not obvious, I'm a fan. Lol!

I love the look of their hybrid with it's short fat can and long thin neck. Really excited for you and to see Ray's diamond grid work - I've never seen it up close!

kingofnull,
This is what I'm getting. Excuse Allison's blurry camera pics. I've got on her case about it enough... :D

SSFG 15" Inline Gridded Tube

I know, I've told her many times to get better photos and video up.

Ah you're getting an inline tube. I thought maybe the Hybrid Inline was coming your way. You always said you wanted this inline tube, didn't you? It's so sexy. I bet it'll hit like a dream with the wide open airflow HI.

Eh... I'll throw up the video (though, a couple people even beat me, to viewing my own u/l... wtf? lol!). Just finished shooting, editing and getting it online. I think it does this little beast justice.

15" SSFG Gridded Inline Perc

My latest SSFG piece. Once again, reaffirming my belief, Ray Verling makes the best inlines. I noticed when this piece arrived, it had a slight lean (4 degrees) to the perc and chamber. I've always been function, over form and I was concerned this was a bad omen for the piece.

Wow, was I wrong. I tried using the tube, flat on the table. Holding it in my hand and finally balancing on the palm of my hand, slightly swinging it back and forth. Not only does this lean, not have any effect whatsoever... the motion of swinging it, didn't even interrupt the airflow of the pull. Amazing, really. I don't think I have any other piece that could pull that one off.

I mention the lean, because its obvious. I saw it as soon as I pulled it out of the box. I let Allison know, I was going to mention it. I sure as Hell made sure I put it thru the trials, before I made a call on it, though. It was a gift, from a friend. Like them, I don't judge something necessarily on how it looks. We all have blemishes. But, in something as obvious as lean... I wanted to make sure, it didn't effect the relationship... whether it became a closet lurker or a rotation piece.

Keep in mind. This is a $150 tube. However, you'll pay that for a lot of Chinese glass, same configuration. Plus, you'll more than likely end up hating inlines, just like I did. This piece isn't going to win a beauty contest. It has flaws. But, its hand-made, its from a good name and special people. As I told Allison, its priceless to me (after hitting it, I'm more convinced). Bang/value for the buck, is a consideration. At least, in my opinion... and this passes with streaming, flying colors.

This would rank up in Top 3 for flavor saver/savor. I'm tempted to say, "Top Dog", in that category. It really was surprising, that first vapor hit I took off it, I tasted things in Romulan, I haven't before. Impressive... considering 12 other pieces didn't. I'm reticent to do that, because it seems impossible, considering how many pieces I have and the $$$ in some of them. I'm not saying this piece is better than them... but in the category of flavor... I have to call it, like I see it.

As you can see in the video, it pulls for quite some time (big hitter), without really producing much more than a tickle in the throat. Dabs are a bit more, obviously... but even they are smoothed down considerably. Again... surprising for a 15" piece, this can pull of massive hits. One of the reasons, I use Ray's mini inline ac/perc with so many pieces. It just makes everything seem smoother. Though, even the mini doesn't hold flavor as well.

The Marias in conjunction with the ice pinches, make an adequate splash break... though heavier pulls, will splash your lips lightly. A good steady pull, will keep water up to the pinches half-way up the tube.

Function: 9/10
Form: 7/10 (knocked some extra off for the lean and bubbles in the glass)

Drag - is pretty non-existent. You actually have some downward force pushing on the inlet... so its a quick starter and easy to keep going. However, adding too much water (come close to filling the perc chamber) and drag does come into play. Glug to.

Rotation Piece: 9/10 (oh yeah, this will be used a LOT)

Something I just noticed on dabs, is it spreads that harshness (for lack of a better word) and spreads/compensates for it, over the entire pull. A lot of my other pieces hit you at different times, most on the pull/clear.

I wouldn't think twice about purchasing another, if this one breaks. This or the stemline they sell for $135. Heck, the the travel beaker with a showerhead DS is hard to beat. Thanks to SSFG, we have access to stuff, made by a guy that puts out some truly awesome custom jobs. Make a plain jane version of it, for the rest of us.

Thanks for the great vid and excellent review. I have a very similar Ben Wilson 3xDonut Inline that is the same on saving flavor. Always amazing! Often wondered if it is the inline, or the upside down "T", or something else. Great for tasting and so smooth you can hit it forever. Doesn't seem to have that same "bonus buzz" as my Lev Lattice, though. Of course nothing else I've tried does!

Wow, I'm laughing my ass off at that guy's comment on your video page...

Outdated? BDV do more R&D? "If you want to get more noticed"???
Definitely a troll comment if I've ever seen one, really deserves a triple facepalm

On the SSFG topic:
I could watch those asynchronous bubbles popping out of the inline for hours :spliff:

Trying to pay some more justice and love for SSFG. Plus, I'm STILL trying to get thru my pieces on the close-up, slow-mo series. One more left... if I want to do it. Well, two... if I include both the MiO and the HVY. The HVY you can't really see anything, except a thick vapor tube.
I've turned to begging. If you watch my videos, please be so kind as to rate them. Either up or down. I would like the feedback, plus I would eventually like to try for a Featured Video spot, someday.
HD1080 as always. Plus, its wide-screen!
