The MiniVap kills me, $700 for a portable just seems slightly ridiculous, especially when it isn't very small. Inhalater and Solo seem to be pretty much king around here as far as being solid vapes. The Ascent looks absolutely wonderful though, can't wait to see what the price tag is going to be, guessing around $300

In a pick 'n drag motion bring the white round media knob to 0:22 and release, or even better: just move the mouse pointer around (over media item) until a timer apears then search for 0:22 and click (pause at 0:23)!...

The bottom part as seen from down under appears to suggest (...) that fresh air intake is performed below the unit but that's no real issue simply because this is a hand-held concept anyway. Though i still wonder if it would be possible to connect an aquarium pump (in the HerbalAire style) while using a water toy to moisturize the cannabic vapour.

Too bad nothing happens at 0:24. :shrug:

Well, those 2 large dark holes (on each side, under the device) are probably for power connectors (battery charge).

March has been mentioned several different times, including the mica posting in the other thread, the video, etc. Of course, that is *if* everything goes according to plan.

However, in this thread the rep has not specifically stated a date/month/whatever, specifically as they don't want to cite a date without having 100% certainty there won't be delays.

But I would suspect an announcement (& pre-sale?) in the next few weeks.


Also, the rep said they would put together a FC contest back on Jan 29th (page 12 of this thread):

I realize the rep is probably really busy up to the launch of the device, but it would be nice if this contest was to run BEFORE they start shipping the device.

The hope was to get the device into the hands of one of us for a thorough review.

Does the Ascent have mica built-in as well? If so i missed that post (like many more) since these days i'm trying to focuss on visually explicit information anyway.

It's not $700 ... you can get it for cheaper making it expensive but somewhat reasonable ... I own a Solo, INH, and MiniVAP, and the MiniVAP definitely outperforms the other two by far.

If discretion is a non-issue, I will always use the MiniVAP, where discretion is required, the INH fits the bill (and this is where the Ascent will fit as well ... if it can heat like the MiniVAP's heater in such a short path I'll be super impressed ...).

The MiniVAP to me is like my portable Cloud ... works well with the Cloud Hydratubes and my Zapubbler as well as straight-up ... the vapor is pure and the chamber is can pack a decent load and it can vape it quickly with big Clouds ... the INH you have to milk slow ... the Solo feels like my cheeks are going to implode at times and just doesn't always give me a consistent experience and I've always had a love/hate relationship with it (apart from my old trusty original Ceramic ...)

Anyways ... don't knock the MiniVAP until you try it ... is it ridiculously expensive? for sure ... however, a lot of vape enthusiasts spend a lot of money on vaporizers and for a medical user who wants a no fuss solid performer that's easy to clean and maintain, deliver's amazing vapor, and is portable too ... it's a real contender. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to some users who would love the way the Cloud hits but couldn't handle the care nor maintenance required for it. I've never used any other portable that can hit as hard as it. A lot of vapes could be intimidating to users with all the tubes and glass and cleaning etc whereas the MiniVAP is simply no-fuss ...

Anyways ... sorry for de-railing the thread ... but thought I'd step to the MV's defense since I do quite like it since getting it :)

As for the Ascent ... I'm pretty sure I'll be jumping on it as well if the reviews are good. It definitely looks promising with the largely convection heating and the all glass vapor path and the bowl on the bottom of the vaporizer to extend the vapor path without extending the unit thus keeping it discrete while increasing cooling ... lots of things to like ... lots of good design features :) ... or maybe by then I'll have my Cera and my search for a more discrete portable will be over :)

Just one thing, the miniVAP is not your typical portable. If the Solo is a portable that works better at home, you have to triple that in the MV. First, because it is sold 20% cheaper without the battery, and second because it is WAY bigger.

Great stuff, the miniVAP, but it is portable only because you can use it with a battery, if you buy one. Would love one though. :cool:

The other reason that it's portable (for instance in comparison with something like the EQ, Cloud, DBV, etc.) is that as soon as you shut it off because you're done vaping you can pack it away and go. No hot parts exposed. Big plus if you're just planning on stopping and visiting with a friend for an hour while you're out and about ...

looks like it shaping up to be a good year for vaporizers. I'm about to pull the trigger on the miniVAP and if the reviews are good on the Ascent, I'll be right in there, too.

can't wait till they release this thing, tbh i dont think it will cost 300, i think/ hope it will cost around 250 with everything including the charger if not less, if you actually think about it, its two heaters that are controlled by a control unit inside that controls the temperature to the heaters, on the bottom heating a chamber then going through a glass piece, thats basically all it is, besides the batteries off to the sides of the unit, so i am hoping it is about 250 or less

You make it sound so easy arctyler. There's a lot more to making a quality vaporizer than vapor = (heat +cannabis)

The engineers over at karma have a lot more to do than just wire up a couple heating elements and call it a day. They need to take into account the various relationship between the conduction, convection and radiant heating action coming from the elements to make sure that the whole load gets properly and evenly vaporized without any hotspots forming and causing the flavor to decrease. it's actually really difficult to do well, and the people making vaporizers spend a lot of time perfecting their design to ensure that it works well. I mean hippie dickey, he's been making his own vaporizer designs for years and still hasn't perfected it completely yet. Though that's not to say his bud toaster is incapable, it's just a testament to how much time and effort must go in to the design of a compelling consumer vaporizer.

As well, there's is a screen on this unit, which will need to be controlled by the appropriate circuitry. And a team of programmers have to make and perfect firmware, to make sure that no software glitches or issues with the hardware are going to arise in the software controlling the screen and heating element during hundreds of thousands of hours of use that their product is going to get in the coming months.

so if they release it and it's over 300, I would not be surprised at all. The amount of work that has gone into research and development of this product will have been enormous. I mean, it's taken Vaporfection what, three years to create a vaporizer that similar to this one; and it isn't even done yet! Karma will have a lot of costs that they will need to recoup. I really hope it's less than 250, it would make me happy and probably ensure that I would buy one day one, but I have my doubts that such prices are possible at the launch of such a complex product.

While I agree with everything centizen said, along comes the FV, which nails it with quality parts and build for under $200. Then there are a number of vapes out/expected in the $250+ price range that are cheap to make but hit that price point to get into the big distribution channels. Without having it in my hands I have no way of knowing which category this vape falls into. Personally, I think this vape will be priced more for the market and be around $250...here's to hoping!
