On the other hand, I would never think about not enjoying a warm fireplace or campfire. For me, I would much rather have a cleaner air path, especially at my age, and is the reason that I'm seriously contemplating an LSV.

Agree on all fronts. If you happen to possess a SSV you might want to revisit it. Not only do I find the glass on glass aspect very clean and tasty, with proper stirring I find that the SSV is no slouch in the efficiency department as well (It would be an interesting A/B comparison with the PD which I might try sometime.) That said, there's something uniquely animate and personal about each PD; I know exactly what you're talking about.

Had a DBV, Jeff, but sold it a long time ago. Just finalized the purchase of an LSV. I really love hitting the PD thru glass so the LSV seemed like it would fit the bill really well.

I had no plans of getting another vape, but Sticks twisted my arm and made me do it. :brow:

VapeWorld made me a deal I just couldn't refuse.

That, and the Cherry PD that I have had running 24/7 for over 4 years has been running really warm. ABV is coming out a mix of very dark chocolate brown to black. It's always run on the high side, but it's getting hotter and is probably due to having 4 or 5 additional retaining clips put in and the core is now sitting a bit closer to the resistor.

I have an AsH PD, but that runs a bit too cool.

So I figure that I needed another vape that I could dial the temp in that I like, which is now somewhere between my Ash and Cherry and being that I prefer to hit through water, the LSV seems like the perfect fit but it was Sticks's on going accolades, along with the pricing of VapeWorld that pushed me over the top.

If your PD is only 4 months old (in usage) I would have to think that it's probably the wall adapter that has gone bad, rather than the PD. Did you buy the car adapter when you bought your vape? If so, plug it into your car and see if it heats up.

The connection at the plug is a chronic problem for log vapes. The wires in the adapter there seem to break easily from the stress at that connection. The replacement wall adapters are easy to find.

It's not the 1 you get with it ,i have a very good adaptor, the blue light is on , on the adaptor , can you open the PD?

Even though the adapter is still drawing power, the plug that you plug into the PD may have wires that have frayed or broken inside. That would cause your PD not to heat.

Do you have something else you could test on your adapter to see if it is delivering power?

You can certainly take the PD apart if you want and think you will know what to do with it once it is apart. Go in from the bottom.

Turns out maybe you were right, i put a 10volt adaptor i found in it , and it seems to be heating it up , maybe wont do as good a good because my other adaptor ran on 12.5 volt, thankyou very much momo.

i needed to replace the end of the wire that connects to my PD a few times. When the thin wires start to fray, it can't deliver enough power to heat.

StickyShisha2,
Do any of you kind people know where on can purchase more Purple Day Stems?

I've misplaced one. and am fearful for losing another which will leave me with 1 stem...

Thank you

You could try posting in the classifieds as a 'want to buy' once you qualify.

Eds TNT stems for the original Zaps fit the PD perfectly.
http://www.edstnt.com/index_files/VaporTokenTubes.htm? He has stopped making them, and there are only a few left.

If you find "Woodeez" stems, they fit perfectly also (they are not on the web any more.)
If you follow stickstones advice, be sure to include a less specific "search"
The stem you want can be for PD or Original AromaZap... or a Woodeez.

hello FC I am having some problems with my PD and was looking for some suggestions.
The problem is that my unit heats up but runs a lot colder that before. when it was new holding your hand over the top would be sort of uncomfortable. Now however the top feels only warm and the hits are noticably weaker. i just bought a replacement power cord from jameco but it seems to not make any difference. what do you think the problem is. also i was thinking if she is broken then maybe i would buy some more resistors form here{ http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=70023233#tab=overview} and make a new wooden body. then try reusing the heat port to build a new purple days?
thanks in advance

If you have a multimeter you can verify that you are pumping in at least 12v, but you did say that you tried with a new Jameco...

When my resistor failed and I opened up my PD, I found my resistor cracked in half (and another poster here also reported the same thing). I wonder if yours may have cracked as well, but still partly works which would explain it getting half as hot.

Those resistors are very cheap as you can see, so you can pick up a few of those.

The biggest job is in removing the wooden plug in the bottom. I used a very tiny screwdriver hammered in along the circumference to break that seal, but there will also be areas still attached by glue that you cannot reach so it can be pretty difficult to remove at first.

If you're going to go as far as to make a new wooden body, I'd suggest doing what you can to insulate the heat from the wood so it doesn't char like the PD did [ie: how the CeramicRockZap did it]. However it will take some experimentation because that can drive up the heat inside the port to combustion levels if the heat isn't able to escape as easily as it did inside the PD.

Good luck!

I was having the same issues with my pd, i was getting rather frustrated with it. i was sticking it under a towel or pillow just to get it where i could get vapor with it.

i was cleaning everything i own a few days ago, and was combining all my old tins of buzzbutter down to 2 tins. well long story short, i ended up giving the pd a good waxing and let it soak in for a few days, this seemed to recondition the wood, and for the past few days its been nice and hot out in the open just like it was when it was new. i think in a few more days i will give it another good waxing after its been heated up.

also my unit was a little cooler to start with, so i purchased a Regulated 12 volt DC power supply for RadioShack. the regulated DC vrs the unregulated AC power supplies that come with the pd run the unit hotter. just like how its hotter when you use the car adaptor. added benifit of a DC power supply is a thicker cord making it alot more durable.

The way i currently understand (please correct me if i am wrong) the purple days to be constructed is that the resistor is wired through the bottom and the sink goes in through the top. put some clamps on to hold it in and your done?
Do you think i would be able to tell if the resistor is broken if i removed the clips holding the heat sink in and lifted it out? or is it more complicated to remove the heat sink that that?

nope remove the top clips and the whole heat exchanger assembly will slide right out, and the resistor will be sticking up from the bottom.

It might be hard to slide it right out, since the wood on top may have shrunk a bit from the heat. So if you're finding it impossible to slide it right out, you may have to widen the hole on top. I did have to widen mine.

Once you're sure the wood isn't preventing it from sliding out, slide it out carefully so you don't crack the resistor. I wasn't 100% sure if the resistor was cracked before I opened it or if it cracked while I was trying to remove it.

Does anyone know anywhere else to get the proper resistors for a purple days? The site i linked above has very high shipping prices to me. I am in canada.
