My purple Pax arrived last week, and is my very first vaporizer. I love the color and the fun of the alliterative moniker 'purple Pax' but I just don't like it otherwise. Maybe that is because I am only smoking tobacco and legal herbs. Trying to quit smoking cigs and really like ecigs, but the Pax is so much trouble...one must pack it frequently and it doesn't give that satisfying plume of vapor that an ecig or epipe does. So I politely let the folks at Pax know, since they market the thing primarily to tobacco users. They politely told me there were no refunds, even if it is not working. Replacements, yes, but no refunds. This is not stated on the pax web site. This is just FYI for those who may need to know...I know I would have liked to find a post like this somewhere before I bought mine. $250 is a mighty big wad to blow for something just to try it out. No offense to those who love it, I can see it's potential for a relatively discreet buzz...though anyone who says it doesn't smell has something wrong with their nose! Blessings to all and happy vaping!

eBay? :)

Even unplugged, the Pax still rocks!

VaPeD&CoNfUsEd: I find almost any direct-draw vape to cause throat irritation sometimes. I think it's the heat because I have never had any irritation from my Buddha, which I figure is because of the cooling of the vapor through the tube. I can't quite figure why sometimes it causes irritation and sometimes it doesn't, but when it does, it's almost like an itch in my throat that I can't scratch.

Have you read this?

for anyone who is wanting to attempt to modify your pax so that the battery is only connected by physical connections; i strongly suggest against this.

while my initial attempt looked like a success, it actually caused more problems then it resolved. now i can replace the battery easily, however my battery is only lasting for ~30 minutes :(

i don't know the specifics of the problem, but i know pax has some kind of microchip, and i think it needs the battery connection to be soldered in order for the battery status indicator to work properly. i do not know why, all i know is when i had the same batteries soldered in they worked, and with my new setup they do not work nearly as well.

thankfully i found a shop in my area that said they will spot weld tabs to a li-ion battery, so after i get my NCR18650B's i'll be bringing them there for them to deal with :)

He tried for a while to get a user-replaceable battery system working and eventually gave up. How's your battery life with the connectors?

I don't think his theory of "having to be soldered" is correct. I think the Pax electronics expect a specific battery and just don't work properly with a substitute. The Pax shuts down the battery long before the battery's self-protection kicks in. dudeeitsbrian measured it at ~50% capacity of the original battery. Given the nature of li-ion discharge curves, I think a different battery just confuses the Pax.

It will be interesting to see if your experiences reflect his.

yeah, the pax must be calibrated for that specific type of battery and anything else throws it off. I got 1 hour 36 minutes on high temp party mode till the flashing red light and death. At first i just wanted to see if i could change the battery, so i randomly bought two cheapo batteries on ebay to experiment with. then i came across the micro connectors and i figured i try them. Ironically i dont even have a charger or another set of micro connectors (on their way). one other note: JBM stated that when he swapped out his battery, he had to "jump start" the pax on the charger to get it to work, not necessary with mine just pop the battery in and fire it up.

So I've had my pax for a while now, still no problems :). However, I know I've asked this before, and I don't know if mine is some freak production fuck up! But the sliding ring just below the plastic mouthpiece does not come into with anything when fully inserted into the pax. the bottom of the stem locks in fine and everything but the ring at the top, just below where it goes into the plastic mouthpiece doesn't touch anything, you can shake it up and down when fully inserted and you can hear the ring moving up and down. I will have to post photos if nobody can understand what I'm trying to communicate. Thanks for any replies.

No freak, like the rest, to me it seems like the sliding ring comes into contact with the internal heater power clip/latch near the side top of spring when the MP is retracted (Pax is powered off). The sliding ring provides leeway for retracted mp to be clicked down to disenage clip/latch and spring pushes mp up/out.

There is nothing wrong with your Pax. All of them are like that unless you do what someone whose name I won't mention so as not to embarrass anyone did which was to remove the ring entirely resulting in a mouthpiece that couldn't be removed without disassembly a long and convoluted sentence I know.

The sliding ring provides leeway for mp to be clicked down to disenage power clip/latch and spring pushes mp up/out.

This is the only purpose of the sliding ring, hence the experience of the member I didn't embarrass. It doesn't play any role in making the circuit. To be clear, I know that you weren't contending that it does, but some have.

It wouldt matter if the the battery was soldered in or connectors were used as long as the connection is solid no chip would know the difference.

Its also cool that it cuts itself of at 50% you can run it "dead" and don't have to worry about over discharging. Where did you find aabout these sp3cs it really isn't talked about

I lost mine the first time cleaning it and thought it was probably just a washer, If you loose this piece your Pax will permanently lock shut and you will have a hard time removing it, I had to return mine.

this may help....when your mp is down the switch/latch catches just below the sliding ring, thats why you hear it moving (top pic) when you push the mp down, the ring catches on the switch/latch and provides a bridge so the mp can slide out.

Ohhhhhhh, you hear that??? Don't need to tell you the punch line! Thanks for you explanations guys appreciate it!!
But I guess it was too good to be true! Just had my first temp light issue!! It's goes purple when I push the mp down and then in a second changes to the temp colour, a few quick shakes or slightly pushing the mp down seems to fix it.
I have just put a bit of PG on the bottom of the stem and a touch on the inside. This doesn't seem to help. How much do you guys find you need to use? I know this can be hard to explain. Also I have tried cleaning the gap between the air path and the spring as shown on the vaporedia page. Even with the dental stick shown! I am not bringing anything up from this area, even using a pipe cleaner. I am reluctant to push too hard or too far down. Do you guys find a lot of gunk down there?

I had to clean both of mine last night for the first time in a week, the mouth was stuck shut, I was surprised at the build up. SO what I do, I take a pipe cleaner and spin it once in my finger tips, it makes a little better tip and clears away stray bristles that would otherwise come loose in the Pax, normally not a big deal, but when I clean the latch and the gap I always do this so that I dont accumulate a bunch of fuzzies down there over time. So pop it down in the gap, lower it til you can feel the ring moving, some times it doesnt hit the ring so prod it around until your sure its deep enough to be cleaning the mechanisms down there. I go all the way around a few times, going up and down and rotating it, then I do a full circle around just rotating the pipe cleaner (Leave the cleaner sticking in and just spin it, the pipe cleaner will work its way around the circle on its own almost like a gear). Make sure you clean the stainless tube of the mouth piece as well, move the locking ring around and get under it as best you can. Someone left a solid tip in here before, after cleaning, put a tiny drop of iso on the mouth piece stem and let it disperse down the whole tube, make sure its not dripping, just a tiny amount, and then reinsert it into the pax, I do it all the time and it works really well, I get away with not having to clean it every day while using it quite a bit. If it does this on the go and you cant clean it yet, try warming it up by blowing into the mouth piece a few times, this worked for me with my old model every time.
edit- the pax wipes work better than iso if you still have those, If you dont believe me try using iso on the screen, the difference is insane. I wonder what they use in them. Certainly smells a little different.

I've dug using mine since late November but it broke last night. It was working fine and then without warning, it wouldn't warm up. It stayed on purple for too long, then went into blinking orange, like a medium battery charge indication, after which it shut down. I tried cleaning and recharging it to no avail, same sceanario each time. I got Vapeworld on chat and they set me up for a replacement. In the meantime sadly, I'm back to combustion. I guess I'll have to get used to that burnt pipe taste for a week or two. Later this year I'll get some kind of non-portable home vape when I've got the funds.

Thats a bummer, I am on the same boat, I am looking at ideal at home vapes now (I am actually looking for suggestions, one of my friends has an arizer (Sp?) that I liked I think) I always enjoyed the taste of smoking, especially good strains out of a clean bong, I hit my favorite strain out of a clean bong the other night and It tastes like straight asshole, from the first hit to last! fuck! hahha that is an unfortunate side effect, all my friends smoke.

Consider Da Buddha. You can get one well under $200 through many sources. Simple design and hits like a mother. I didn't think I would like the whip, but I gotta say it actually cools the vapor so much that it's really nice, especially through a bubbler.

I hear that. I was working out of town last weekend and afraid to take my Pax and stuff on the flight. As a result I took a few tokes off my coworker's one hitter. Awful! Even toasted ABV is better than that nasty pipe taste and the coughing was a bitch. It sure does smell good in the air, though.

the arizer extreme is the only plug in one I have used a few times, I used a vapor bro's once and it was probably 7 years ago now so I have no memory of it being good or bad haha. The buddha looks sick- thanks for the tips- I love my Pax, I use a bong with no water and just fill it up with ice and thats about the best thing I have ever hit  but no sense in running these dead every day, ruining the battery, if I can have a nice plug in.

Hi guys new to the thread must say i love my pax had it for a month no issues i clean it once a week with iso and pipe cleaners. I have strict parents and this thing saves my ass all the time. I have been wondering how i should go aboutfilling the oven if i only want to fill it halfway. Should i pack it all the way down or leave it loose or what? Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks

I find if I pack it tight I get thick clouds at the beginning, tastes worse faster, If you pack it looser (still packing it down, just not tight) It'll hit less intensely, but It'll last a little longer, and the taste quality is prolonged a bit. Either way, Id pack it down, just depends how fast you want to finish.

I know a lot of you are worried about the voltage in these cobra car chargers and how it'll affect the Pax.

I have had 2 pax for a couple months now, and on one of them I've been using this car charger. It works great and charges as normal, and it has the same battery life and heat up times as the one I have only used the wall charger.

I don't know if using this adapter will void warrenty or not but as far as I can tell its had no negative effects on the pax. And it's really convenient to have a car charger, I was always running out of battery out and about.

Here's what's been working for me because I'm trying to be economical. Fill it halfway and pack it down as best you can. Try to keep it held horizontally when you use it for maybe 2 hits on low temp, then pack it down some more. It will hold together better after it's cooked just a bit. Do another 2 hits and then give it a stir and a pack. Then start pushing the temp up, a few hits, a stir, a pack and so forth.

that sounds so tedious :D I'd just stick to one temp at first, yellow if its real dry, orange if its on the fresh side. blaze it til it stops hitting well, stir it and repack, temp up to red. If your on yellow skip orange, just go for red
