Life Saber (LSV) by Elev8 Vehicles

I used 2 screens for the first time this weekend. I guess I'm actually using 3 screens because I put two screens in the bowl and I keep another screen in the Vapor Tamer mouthpiece. And like stickstones said, if you are filtering with water, you probably don't need 2 screens.

I posted this a while back, but this is what I use for a screen. I did this at first because the LSV had heat issues, but I came to like the adjustable bowl size and easily removable screen. Another plus: the screen stays in place (ie, no bud falling into the bong when you stir)

boulderado...you might prefer the shorty wpa. I think you are rolling with the tall one there.

This screen mod looks like what Hazy is doing with his POD stems, and I like the adjustability of those stems.

Hazy is using a dowel to shape round screens into that shape and then places them in the stem. boulder probably did something similar.

Yeah it's just a flat screen formed around something slightly smaller than the WPA. I got the idea from the PD thread- someone called it the shuttlecock method. The shorty would be preferable but it was never in stock when I ordered.

Same here re: the shorty, Bould. What did you form yours around? I messed around with a few ideas, tried this but couldn't prevent the formed screen from turning and spilling. You have to get it just right i suppose?

Thanks, SS. I don't follow the PD thread so I didn't look there! I followed a few pages in, could you kindly you point me in a page # direction?

I have no idea what pg it's on, haven't followed that thread in like a year; just search for "shuttlecock" and you should be able to find it. I've found that a chapstick tube is about the perfect size. It also helps to have a pair of pliers to form the corners.

I did the shuttlecock search and did find a hit (on the myrtlezap, etc. page) but not much discussion, there's a ton of pages to look through.

Chapstick and pliers sounds like a good plan, I'll give that a shot, thanks.

The POD thread is where Hazy is, but I don't remember seeing anything posted in there that would help you with this.

I have a year old LSV that was returned a few months ago with the new strain relief installed(from 7th floor). Just noticed today that when I move the cord around near the strain relief I get intermittent power as visible by the light on the unit cycling on/off. I am generally very gentle on the unit, the cord sees the usual bending from use.

1) the new strain relief/coupling does not make this cord much more reliable than previous designs
2) this is probably not the best type of cord to use for a non desktop unit that sees this much movement. I wonder if the cord mfg has this application in mind with this cord.

I really dont want to send it back in for this. It costs money and takes a unit out of use for weeks. Warranty void sticker is tempting....

I unscrewed the coupling and took a picture of what's happening to the cord. You can see it's being girdled which eventually damages the conductors inside the sheath and interrupts power flow.


I really don't see how it was thought that adding this device would help relieve strain in the cord, it doesn't change anything about the way the cord bends vs. the original design, just moves it out. This "strain relief" seems to actually be doing more harm to the cord... I am assuming this pinching of the cord doesn't happen on units without the updated strain relief?

An ideal strain relief uses a spring or similar to lessen the flexibility of the cord while still allowing it to *bend*, but preventing it from reaching as extreme of an angle... reducing wear on the cord.

EDIT: Managed to fix the unit for now by working the cord about .25" further into the housing and tightening the coupling back down. Now the damaged section of cord is further in and does not experience movement as the cord bends during use. I'm not getting intermittent power problems anymore.

I found that the pinching is directly caused by the white plastic piece that snugs around the cord @ the coupling. There is alot of pressure put on this small area which follows the circumference of the cord. As the cord gets worked back and forth it acts as a lever and over time the insulation starts to get pinched down and you get the girdling visible in the picture.

Can also verify that the LSV unit housing is grounded at a point right next to the power light from where it goes directly into the cord. This is definitely a good thing which adds to safety as well as the previously mentioned white plastic piece which goes around the cord @ the coupling and acts as an insulator in case of a short in this area. So there is actually one advantage to the new strain relief which is insulation incase of a short due to damaged cord sheathing... although it seems to cause alot of damage itself so does that cancel out any advantage?

Anyways I'm happy for now, we'll see how long it lasts. I will probably try to find some springs or other materials to try to make a better strain relief to prolong cord life and until then it will surely be babied(always supported with a finger during use).

Ahhh it's so hard to be patient! Ordered and paid Sunday (from 7th Floor themselves), and it's still 'processing'. I know it hasn't even been the 6 days they say to allow, but I was really hoping that they were giving themselves breathing room by saying that...doesn't seem like that's the case.

I just measured the spring I put on mine, measures somewhere between .59'' and .60'' in ID (internal diameter) and is .006 in wire diameter. Thought it might be helpful for tracking down the appropriate coil.

I partially unfolded the 'shuttlecock' and it seems you need at least an 1", maybe 1.25" of diameter. The screen I used was bought from a local hardware store in bulk, so it's just a giant screen you can cut down.

I used a bit of 14 AWG solid copper wire wrapped around the cord and then wrapped that with some electrical tape to help with strain relief of the cord. It works very well.

Ordered my LSV this morning. Now I just have to wait by the mailbox.

It should work great... I have done well with a much simpler 60w inverter.
The one pictured will do well.

Has anyone dealt with customer service recently? I'm trying to send my lsv in for repair, but it's going pretty slow. I sent my 1st email Feb 2 and didn't get a reply until I sent a second email 5 days later. I arranged for a repair, but haven't received a paypal bill or heard back from 7th floor since then (Feb 8).

During very busy times, patience is needed.
They do always come through~

Yeah I guess there's nothing I can do but wait. I'm just eager to have the cloud machine working again...
