Does the vapour released after a DBV hit mean i am hitting too hard on it and letting useful vapour out, should i take smaller hits so nothing comes out or as little comes out as possible

or am i thinking this through too much??

is there normally lots of vapour after a DBV hit??

Yes, IMO you can waste vapor with big exhales. You can only process so much vapor at a time. But taking small hits and holding 'em, every single time, isn't much fun, so it's best to balance your process somewhere between conservation and enjoyable vaping. It depends on the individual's requirements. If you really need to stretch your supply, due to cost and/or availabiltiy, you might want to vape with a little more discipline, to limit big exhales.

Nice max.... very nice!
A balance... and the words "enjoyable vaping" is key!

Has anyone here got a bong they can connect up to a DBV and a MFLB?

Can anyone recommend a good one for me? I have both of these vapes and need one bong that I can connect to both - thinking I want a small piece, nothing too large - maybe a 100ml or 250ml peice. Seen a good Ehle one and a Roor one so far.

I'm in the UK so it's not as easy to get accessories around here (big gap in the market for whoevers got some time and money lol)

Also what other things will i need? I mean i dont know much about bongs, only vaporising. So do i need a diffuser or an ice catcher or an ash catcher? Its so confusing!!

Help

kushty,
1) buy a magic flight water pipe adapter
2) Put a piece of Buddha tubing on your MFLB glass stem or glass wand (approx 3") that can fit into your downstem.
3) Lotus vaporizer WP also work with the buddha to make it a wand unit. It is just a SS bowl with a fitted screen.

10" Glass pedestal Bong
I use this for the MFLB and the DBV
I use this for the MFLB with it Water adapter MFLB
I use this in place of the Borasilicate mouthpiece for the DBV Water Adapter DBV
This glass bong you see now is $64 in the local headshop.
When I bought it it was only 38.50 after tax.
I bought all in all 8 for people that had asked. I still have 2 besides my personal one.. but I have never sent anything to the UK before.. and even nicely packed... it seems a long voyage for glass!
Besides the adapters for water... you need nothing.
A bong like this comes with a 14 mm downstem......
same as the fitting on either of the water adapters.
With the DBV adapter you would order 14 ( theres a choice between 14 and 18)
The difference..
The size of the bore does affect the air passage therefore the "Glug Glug"
I like it tighter, with most vapes.... and I like the way the air passage feels with the 14 mm

EHLE is very good quality for the $. EDIT has a good variety, and they're in the UK. The 250ml is a good size for the LB, but unfortunately they're out of stock on the bent neck 250.

max,
Well, Vitolo you weren't kidding about these poking tools being sharp lol. wow! I got them in the mail a few days ago but didn't get around to posting anything. I got two pokers and two packs of screens. They forgot one of the packs of screens so they should be here anyday. Here is what they look like.

b4cecc69.jpg

Then the tips. The one in the middle is the one that I bought earlier and grinded down on the sidewalk. Wasn't nearly as sharp.
8cdbb3be.jpg

Then the whole arsenal.
e367107f.jpg

And then as I was typing this I heard what sounded like a weed wacker outside or something. I leave the back door wide open for my dog. So she can just come and go in and out all day. I mean if its nice enough weather outside, plus I live in a good neighborhood. So I hear and think nothing. Then I hear it again and I'm like wtf is that now. I get up and see the fucking monstrosity flying around my head in the computer room. Of course the little girl in me comes out and I get the fly swater and just kinda look at it from outside of the room flying into the light multiple times lol. It goes in the light and I go for it. I bang and bang at the light and it just keeps trying to fly out and doesn't succeed. So I hit it some more and it ends out just sitting still in the light fixture. So I figure well the heat from the lights probably killed it. So I unscrew the thing to access the lights and the fucker flys right at me! I drop the cover and swat away and eventually it falls and I get it good. I scoop it in the swater and tossed it outside on my sidewalk which is where I took the pic lol. Look at the ant for size reference.

Wow, you are retiring the DBV for the MFLB? Man, I have both. When I got my DBV last Feb, from the first vape, I have not combusted since. Since i loved vaping so much, I ordered the MFLB for mobile use. While I do like the MFLB and do not want to diss it, the DBV is SO much better. The hits are not even comparable in my opinion. I know the power adapter helps the MFLB hit better, but I got it for mobile use, so I have no interest in that piece.

Also, not sure how many do this, but I have not turned my DBV off since last March. It stays on, and on my heat setting 24/7. Going on 6 months now, no issues at all. So getting my vape can not be quicker. Sit down, and start vaping.

I think there is a place in most lineups for both the DBV and the MFLB, but if I had to choose just one, my DBV wins everytime.

I would have to totally agree with you. Oh and yes I never turn mine off. Although I do turn it to the lowest setting and turn it back up when i'm ready. It only takes 30 seconds to a minute to warm and I need to grind the weed.

gold all in my chains...dont believe me just watch
hey guys...this question goes out mainly to DBV owners (but please any owners of SSV or LSV respond also, if you have anything valuable to contribute):

not sure how much of a big deal this is, but i think most of us who have given our DBV a thorough cleaning know that around the ceramic heating rod (at the bottom), there is:

1. a metal "sleeve" that goes around the base of the ceramic heating rod's support, AND
2. many of us also know that there is also a very small metallic strip (not sure if this has been referred to as a "shim" in previous posts).

i do not know exactly where that metallic strip (shim) goes, because it just kind of falls out when you take off the glass heater cover & very difficult to even know where it is under there before removing the heater cover. on mine, the strip is fully a silver color except for a copper colored area (maybe this copper color is a "burn" mark? because i do not think this strip is made of 2 different color metals) near one of the ends of the strip on 1 side of the strip only...hope you guys can visualize this...

anyways, the first time i took off my heater cover, the strip fell out & i just tucked it away in a box because i didnt really see a purpose for it. i put on the metal sleeve & have been using it like this for about 3 days without problems. going through old posts, i think this strip may be to keep the heater cover around the base a little tighter so it does not swivel around so much? it could also be some kind of size-regulator for when the materials expand & contract due to temperature changes...

long story short, i decided to put it back on there (not sure where to put it, cuz i didnt know where it goes in the first place) & i just put it in the gap of the metal sleeve with the copper (burned) colored area facing the inside of the ceramic support, and on the top of the strip (so that it is closest to the bottom of the ceramic stick)...like i said, NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE EXACT SPOT FOR IT...also, btw, the gap of my metal sleeve is facing the front of DBV - by the hole that the wand is inserted into.

i decided to do the "turn on high for 10 minute" step since i did all of this stuff & the wand is not inserted. my main question is: DO YOU GUYS NOTICE ANY KIND OF SMELL FROM YOUR DBV CERAMIC HEATING ROD WHEN THE WAND IS REMOVED?

i notice a little smell & since i just reattached the metallic strip (an annoying process), i just wanted to know if anyone has noticed ANY KIND OF SMELL AT ALL...mine doesnt smell bad or anything...just an odor i have never noticed before...kind of reminds me of one of those stoves with the metal coil that heats up & turns red (if you guys have ever smelled one of those when its turned on)...its been on high for about 10 minutes now & the smell is pretty much totally gone. i definitely do not want to inhale anything that i dont know about...should i just leave the metal strip off?

it did work well with it off, but id like to keep it as close to factory-configured as possible, so thats why i put it back on...but really, in the end, results are all that matter for me.

IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE YOUR HEATING COVER...ALSO, IF ITS TOO TIGHT WHEN YOURE PUTTING THE HEATER COVER BACK ON, BE VERY GENTLE BECAUSE IVE HEARD THAT THE GLASS CAN CRACK - WHICH WOULD SUCK...its a pain to get everything back right. if you know how to put everything back together, any advice would be appreciated!

thanks, guys!

akwardsauce,
I have owned my DBV for a little over a year and I have never taken it apart. When I vape I always pull the wand out between hits so in my mind I don't have to clean it as nothing is actually getting dirty on the unit itself. Now I clean the wand on a regular basis but as long as you don't get any blow back and you pull the wand out between hits, I wouldn't know what would even need to be cleaned.

wow really? ive noticed a little browning on the base of the ceramic stick support. so i tried to iso that off a lil...ive also cleaned my glass heat cover once due to some discoloration. i thought a few people even had interchangeable heater covers (some SSV mods & stuff) so, not that removing it was a regular thing, but something that a DBV owner would have come across...

personally, im glad that i can somewhat manipulate my DBV if/when its needed...im like that & want to maintain my investments...

so have you ever smelled the ceramic while it was heating up?

I've never smelled anything from my DBV unless I pulled the dreaded blow-back. You mention that the smell is pretty much gone, maybe it was just something that got on the shim while it was off. Did the smell return?

I don't have an extra shim on mine, just the sleeve.

Are you sure thats ceramic ? Or the non circulating air in the heater cover with all the dust particles on the heating elements.. :)

I have changed the HC repeatedly on the DBV and on the SSV. It is VERY easy and requires almost no effort, and requires NO tools whatsoever.
There is RARELY a small metal shim in place, unless they required it for one specific DBV/SSV... to stabilize it. The metal sleeve that ios there to hols the HC solid can be tweeked to make it fit firmly... again only using hands no tools needed.
I never have noticed ant odor emanating from my Ceramic Heating Element.
If you touched the heating element while it was turned off... upon reheat you will smell oils from your fingers for the 1st couple of seconds.

abysmal vapor, right it may have actually been the hand oils...or even microscopic dust particles getting burned...but it didnt smell like burning herb

the smell did go away. if i fire it up tonight, i will definitely let you guys know if the smell returns.

the thing is, before i put the metal strip on, i never noticed a smell. yesterday, when i put it on, i only noticed the smell for like 1-2 mins before it disappeared.

vitolo, i never thought of just adjusting the metal sleeve to stabilize the glass heater cover - good idea.

vitolo & cluffy, did you guys never have the metallic strip (shim) on your machines, or did you just remove them yourselves?

i figure there are a few things to this:
- there should be a little looseness to the glass heater cover, because if it were too stiff, the ground glass wand would fall out with almost any jostling of it while its connected. since the glass heater cover "gives" a little with the movements, it can stay connected without falling out so easily.
- you dont want it too loose, either, cuz then the glass heater cover may move up & down - touching & moving away from the ceramic stick (probably not a great thing either)
- you also dont want it so tight that the heater cover cracks with any movement (its very delicate & i can easily see it breaking with slight movements when its that tight)

oh, by the way, when i start up my DBV, i usually max it out for like a minute or 2 until i get ready, then turn it down to my sweet spot. this eliminates me ever waiting on my DBV to get ready & pretty much reverses it to my DBV waiting for me to get ready. the ceramic heats up & cools back down to a lower temperature SUPER fast (ive even touched it while slightly turning it on & it heats up to "too-hot-to-touch" almost immediately, even on the lowest setting), but it takes a little while to cool down to room temperature, so give it a little time there. just thought that was worth mentioning & if that gave any insight to the smell thing i posted a bit above...

anyways, ill let you guys know if i smell it again...just reminded me of that old post of a DBV owner smelling a metallic smell emanating from his machine...not sure if you guys remember that back then...thanks again!

on another note, would you guys say that the bottom of your screen gets more clogged than the top? my screen looks pretty clean on top (a little residue around the edges) but yesterday, it seemed like there would be 1 really dark brown/close-to-black colored spot after i inhaled & looked inside my wand...kind of like all the air was only flowing through 1 spot on the screen. however, my screen looked pretty clean & open for airflow (from the top). i didnt take it off & look at the bottom to see if there was only like 1 pathway for air to flow through - but this would make sense.

however, do you guys find that the bottom gets more clogged than the top? or that the screen can be much more clogged than it looks from the top? i guess i could always try to look underneath, but its sitting so nicely right now that i didnt really want to mess with it.

on another note for new owners, when i first got mine, the screen sat SO loosely in its spot that it would frequently flip over and shift around (even if the wand was moved around different angles). this didnt really allow me to "vacuum up" the ganja by holding the wand upside-down. i thought that this was a normal thing & that the screen would have to be carefully balanced in its spot. this would also allow for a lot of ganja & particles to enter my mouth when using this & was REALLY ANNOYING. later on, i just tried with another screen to see if it could sit a little bit tighter & it fits perfectly.

...so basically what im saying is, if your screen is unstable & you are just dealing with it (which can be super frustrating & nasty to get all that stuff in your mouth), try another screen until it sits stable in its spot - it makes life so much easier being able to vacuum it up & not worry about residue in your mouth & stuff...you dont have to live like that & stuff should NOT be going in your mouth!

I never had the shims. They are added in the factory, only when needed.
The "sleeve" can be adjusted pretty easily until the fit is just right.

7th Floor uses 5/8" screens and I don't ever remember encountering one that was 'off size'. They should normally be identical and all fit the same. If the wand screen doesn't fit snugly, the problem is much more likely to be an improperly made wand, where the screen section is too big. Proper QC on a wand should always reveal this problem, but some have been shipped in the past where the screen is too loose. I had one myself. They should replace any wand that can't properly fit a 5/8" screen.

honestly, someone else installed that 1st screen for me (that fit improperly)...i didnt really watch what they were doing & just trusted them since they already had experiences with DBV (although i think that since i read through this thread, i may be more informed than them now).

i kept that one on there for like 3 days before i decided to try again myself.

i doubt its the wand, could have been the screen, could have been my friend...but it fits perfectly now...

any advice on how the looks of the top of the screen can be deceiving compared to whats really going on on the bottom? by the way, my screen is convex (domed up) instead of concave (bowl shaped)...so there should be a nice airy cushion below the herb for the pathway to clear evenly through the rest of the wand...

btw, vitolo, i saw your computer-drawn instructions as to how the air flows when the screen is curved up vs down way back a while ago...!

@akwardsauce:
I definitely get a build up under the screen. If you crank up the heat and draw through the empty wand (extra hard to make up for the extra heat) you'll both get an impressive wand hash hit and clean your screen at the same time. Just scrape the screen with the pick afterwards and blow it out.

Your buddy might have misshaped the first screen while installing.

If you can't see the bottom of your screen it might be time to harvest some wand hash! :brow:

I never had an extra shim, but did receive some with subsequently bought HC's.

I'd definitely agree that trying a 2nd screen would be step #1 in addressing the problem.

If the screen gets 'worked over' too much during the install, it could lose its stiffness and not get a tight fit. I've found that it's much easier to install a new, stiff screen in my SSV, rather than trying to reuse the old one.
