butane new car smell

CHEI

I use 5x butane usually Power sometimes Mega. Today I sprayed them both onto a glass food plate. They leave a minor "new car smell" after evaporation with no visible residue really. I thought it could be natural mercaptans (coming from the manufacturing of butane from petroleum) that would be boiled off at 95F but from what I have read those smell like sulfur or rotten egg. The end product is quality and the smell is not noticible from what I can tell. Infact it seems to medicate well. Any comments?

no matter what butane you use from a can, there is going to be some residual that remains on the surface. the key is to buy a bottle of crappy butane so you can see the difference. Then you can compare for the future. :)

I don't do many spray tests myself anymore. i use colibri, vector and london. I am confident that is as good at it gets before I can use lab grade butane.

can't say i have ever noticed the "new car smell" before though :/

Agree, stick to few quality brands and that's fine. The "new car" smell might be just residual butane in the air. Butane is odorless but still volatile and different from air so your brain just relates it to the most familiar sent it can think of.
