No I used a leatherman but I would guess I opened it up to 3mm +/- or probably 7/64ths s.a.e.

That's a good idea. I don't think of this because I use this for herb blending high temp herbs in oil/herb can in bottom chamber lower temp herbs very loosely packed maybe 1/4 full in top chamber.
I love this feature
Question: @ Da Vinci.... What are your thoughts on using these in the Da Vinci? http://www.shiazo.us/shop/steam-stones/green-apple/

First of all their description made me bust out laughing "Green Apple’s flavor is enjoyably juicy, wet, and sour", but yeah I don't see why you couldn't use these. The stones don't look to large, nor would they constrict the airflow. I see a test coming on this week...

You could just leave the upper chamber cap completely off, since you're using oil cans it really serves no function whatsoever. This would also avoid the cap potentially getting stuck.

We originally built the upper chamber for flavor "sticks"..but couldn't find anything that was built from quality material. However, I did put some hookah tobacco in there once and it worked pretty well. Purists could argue..why ruin the taste..but also might help with your smell issue.

Cool, yeah im glad to see you active, ive tried to call in a few times to get some guidance on that upper chamber. I read somewhere that we can use it for flavoring and ordor masking materials but I have no idea what to put in there. ANY TIPS? Besides the rocks you just LOLd at.

In regards to removing the cap, I like the idea of forming a seal and without the cap that definitely cant happen. But Im a noob, somepeople like unrestricted airflow, where i like the resistance.

Only when i have some resistance can I get alot of vape out of one can in multiple sessions.

First I'd like to say welcome to the Da Vinci thread. I know it's a lot, but there is much wisdom and experience in the previous 68 pages so try to give them a quick once over.

When using the oil cans, I found that not screwing the upper chamber all the way on,
leaving a few threads visible works to take up that room.

I found opening the bottom hole up on the can a little bit helps. As described earlier in this thread. Not a lot but enough for just the tapered end of the brush to pass. I first pack the can then put the brush through the middle of the load.
If you do a sharp draw at first it will lift the can up some to seal and then you can adjust your draw to your desired draw speed.

A lower temperture may give you a lighter smell in combination with earlier suggestion from Dreamer to pre-heat empty may take care of it.
seriously, thanks to his tips I can get 10-15 hits a session with Plenty of vape nearly everytime. Potentially taking me down to 2 or 3 cans today....Im a VERY HAPPY CAMPER
However, id like to know if im ruining my experience? Im going to look around here for some vapor 101 type advice, who knows... I may like your techniques as well.

My biggest request is for flavoring and odor masking advice though.

Regarding mica...please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it goes like this: Yeah, the msds sheet says it's safe, but it can fragment. And while it won't offgas anything, I've seen it kind of crumble in some circumstances and forms. Arizer has weathered the storm after having it in the Extreme vape and even kept it in their Solo...both favorites of mine. They argue that even if it could splinter off, it won't in a static design. (Again, if any of you know I'm wrong, jump on in...I'm feelin good!) So if it's not in the airpath, who cares.

Actually, your absolutely correct in your understanding.

It is in a stagnant state and our air path is sealed by another metal bowl that radiates the heat back in and protects the air path.

Regarding our silence on the matter, hindsight is 20/20 right? Main reason I took over this forum...plus it's so much fun! However, while this forum is always a key in our decision making we must also be very cautious about what we publish or do not publish as a manufacturer.

I totally get it. Thanks for addressing it before your next product is delivered. From your presence on this board, I get the feeling you guys are a stand up company that likes to take care of its customers. So it helps to not have any reservations about your first unit as the second one rolls out.

Howdy, sorry to meet you under a cloud, but good anyway.

This has happened in the past month or two IIRC. The problem was, I think, solved by a different contact address? Perhaps someone will recall the details of that, but you might want to skim this thread back a bit and test my memory?

Good luck. It's a good unit, IMO worth getting going again.

Never used it but it seems interesting. http://www.tastypuff.com/
Any members familiar with this product?
Says that all ingredients are approved for use by FDA?
I'm considering trying the apple and the orange.
I am very familiar with tasty puffs, they are in just about every head shop. In my personal opinion I wouldnt do it. I tried a few flavors back in the day when I was smoking reggie and then again when I switch to higher quality bud and vaporizers. I used some with an Iolite and man the taste is powerful and harsh. If you do try it two things.. There are better brands out there (again my opinion) especially with all the E-cig diy flavors. I do mix my own nic juice and the best flavors I've found are from wizardlabs.us, these WILL work the same as tasty puffs. DO NOT USE A LOT. It's concentrated so I definitely wouldnt do more than .1 ml per bowl, if it's not strong enough you can always add another 1/10 of a ml.

way to go me, replying to a post I meant to edit.. sorry about that. Anyways I decided to give one of my flavors a try in the DV and it works like a charm. I did watermelon from wizardlabs at .1 ml and it totally covered up any herb taste with watermelon. That particular flavor is pretty sweet, too sweet for my taste for this type of thing, so I might try lemon later. But it definitely worked. Smelled like watermelon heating up, tasted like sweet sugary watermelon on inhale.

Do you just apply it to the bud or do you put in on some cotton or something and put it in the top chamber? I'm considering getting some mango flavor from them

I just dropped it on the bud and put the bud in the chamber. Since .1 ml only ends up being like two small drops I didnt see a need to have a material soak it up and then use it. Most my flavors are fruity and it ends up very sweet, so if you dont think you'll like that maybe try a flavor that's not going to be as sweet. Or dilute the flavor in a bit of distilled water, which I might try later today.

Okay so I took my watermelon and did a half/half with a distilled water mixture. LOADS better. I think 50/50 isnt the way to go maybe a 60/40 (flavor being majority.) It's a bit more work but I could see myself sticking with this if smell was ever a issue. I personally like to taste the herb so this isnt something I would opt for. Get some distilled water and mix it with the flavors, I dont think you'll be disappointed. You arent out much if you are but anyone with issues with taste/smell this is a good option in my opinion

hey guys, just got one of these last night and it's pretty nifty. I like the oil can concept but I think it needs a bit of work. I put in some pretty gooey concentrates (starts off as a solid). Any heat immediately causes the concentrates to melt/goo up. Initially I was a bit lost, put the concentrates in the oil can without the cotton, and it leaked all over. After that, I tried the cotton. The problem with the cotton is it still goo's up, and the hole still lets the oil leak out.

In one of the earlier posts, the oil can has a long tube that kept liquids from leaking:

(can on the right)

Is that oil can still available or was that style canceled?

Does anyone else have any suggestions for oils or gooey concentrates?

Thanks guys, great product.

Maybe try loading less in the cotton, and put goo in center of cotton then roll it up

Glad you like it! For some reason we discontinued the can with the tube...I wonder if I have any flying around the office...I'll check for you. Give me a few days, I'll be out of the office until Friday at the Tobacco Expo.

Nice, that would be awesome. I've been experimenting a bit to find a way to get the can working. I am going to try putting a mini screen into one of the cans with cotton together and see if that helps a bit.

IMO you're working too hard. The Germans already worked this out for the Volcano. Get yourself one of their concentrate pads (they come in pairs, there are two types, either works fine), carefully pull it apart. It's a long tube made of a single woven SS wire about .003 in diameter. Snip off a bit and stuff 1/8 inch or so in the can bottom. Bubble is mechanically blocked, leaking liquids get absorbed and trapped in the jumble of wire....just like it was designed to do. The good stuff vapes easily and cleanly off.

Nothing to burn up or overly block air flow (the single wire just can't be packed solid) and it's very easy to clean. Soak of boil the whole can.

BTW the same 'trick' works great on your Herbal Aire. I've converted one of my crucibles to the duty there and use it regularly for the great bubble hash we have available here.

Good luck.

Best wishes.

Hi new here and to the world of vaporizing.

After about 2 months of research I managed to find a shop in London (uk) that sells the Da Vinci and went ahead and picked it up a few days ago.

I started using the vap and it is very cool but still getting used to temps and how much I should fill the bowl for a session. I tend to just fill up to the same amount I put in a joint which is half full bowl and vap till i'm baked then empty.

Is this ok will it effect the power of my device long term or should I vap with a full bowl and just switch off when i'm done and come back later.

I really like this device and want to keep it in great working order any advice is welcome

Thanks

Welcome camdenstoner ! your doing great, if you go from a half bowl for one session to a full bowl in order to do two sessions wont affect the power in the unit. I find I Have To Refresh my herbs a little before the second session I add a TINY pinch and stir up the bowl, fresher taste to me, hope this helps ya somewhat HAPPY VAPIN'

Welcome! And you made a wise purchase.
I put the smallest amount in possible to do the trick, maybe half a joint's worth. I don't like putting it down and finishing later due to flavor. The couple times I did put it down and came back I put a pinch of fresh in like Rude Boy. But it has nothing to do affecting power, you're fine either way. Vape on!
