Grinder suitable for micro amounts? (25mg)

Ethnobotanist

........始解........
Medicinal vaporizer here. I did have a quick look at the MASSIVE herb grinder thread, however unfortunately no results come up for "mg" (too short keyword?) or for "tiny amount".

Basically I'm fortunate in that I can vaporize 25mg or less for my condition i.e tiny or micro amounts. Now, what I'm interested in is getting a grinder which would be suitable for quickly reducing 25mg of herb into powder (or finely ground for such a small amount) for maximum efficiency when vaporizing. Has anyone had any good experience with this?

At the moment the best way of doing this I've found is to vaporize the bud twice since after the first vape, the ABV crumbles in powder really easily. However I don't really have time to be vaping twice at the moment and am after a more time efficient method.

Cheers

Edit: Sometimes I even vaporize 10mg when it's a sativa since I'm fairly sensitive to them. So something capable of effective finely grinding an amount as small as 10mg would be welcome.

^Thanks for the input. I did see it mentioned in the mega grinder thread, however was put off seeing that MFLB users were looking for alternatives, lol. Although, maybe I misunderstood. Someone said that the MFLB grinder was 'pants' which I took to mean as being unsatisfactory.

You might want to check-out Magic-Flight's new grinder, the Finisher. It's still a beta product sold only on their website for now. They introduced it to us in the Magic-Flight thread here.

Awesome, thanks for that! I see that it's designed to grind finer than the MF Nano grinder which would negate my previous post. Plus the design looks like there shouldn't be any reason to worry about metalic chips ending up in your ground herb (like some people mentioned in the grinder thread for certain models).

Even if its still a beta product, the website quotes the grinder itself as having their lifetime warranty, very interesting.

Is the exit hole where the ground herb leaves the grinder fairly small? Specifically wondering if it would work held over the Vapexhale Cloud's EZ-bowl

The opening is 14mm wide, but it's a circle, of course. :) (I just used my daughter's ruler, and measured it) I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Hmm... might work. Only issue is there's a few milimeter thick ring once you take the EZ-bowl cap's off so it might have residual herb powder on the rim

The first 30 seconds may interest you. I don't use grinders, I find them chemically unsafe, plus they're busted, heavy and expensive and I don't want to lose any kind of actives on their large surfaces. Here with my small glass container and some chirurgical scissors, I get the job done easy and safe. I've been doing it like that for like 3 years.

I didn't know you could use the cano with a bong like that - nice!

The only issues I can see are:
1) You're using several times more bud than I do
2) I can't quite see how finely you ground it. With the tiny amounts I use, I might very well be getting it as finely ground with my fingers as you get >50-75mg+ ground using chirurgical scissors. On the otherhand, I could be wrong since I can't tell how fine the grind was.

At the moment, I'm torn between the Space Case Scout (small, barely 1" diameter) and the MF Finisher grinder.

Edit: Snap! I also store my 'cano chamber in a glass jar when not in use.

I have a no name grinder thats literally the exact same size as that finisher, it grinds very fine, perfect for vapor, but it may be impossible to use for one with big hands, I'm wondering would the finisher have that problem too?

Also, just wondered if there's any issues with using the finisher and woodchips ending up with the herb? Doesn't matter with vaporizing, however if ingesting ABV, might be an issue.

As much as I like the looks and initial feedback on the finisher from MFLB, they are charging around £20 for the grinder and another £20 to ship it to the UK (plus possible customs charges, taxes and possibly a few quid paid to the couriers to 'process' it through customs and deliver it. In my experience I've had to pay the courier £10 on top of duties etc before they'd deliver it. However that was with more expensive orders. At present it seems overpriced until UK/EU vendors are able to stock it.

Edit: To be exact, pricing it $40 for grinder plus $40 to ship it to UK or $17 shipping with the following service "USPS Priority Mail International (10-30 days, no tracking possible past U.S. border) ".

Anyone have input on whether I should expect customs charges etc on such a small package on the USPS Priority Mail International Service? On the other hand, I can be at my local store in 10 minutes and pickup a small Space Case Scout for £30...assuming it's ok with 25mg amounts (3.5cm diameter sounds like it should...)

Edit2: Not owning an MFLB, it wasn't obvious from the picture that the bottom of the finisher is open and designed to be grind bud directly into the MFLB's chamber. I'd prefer a standalone device which works with any use. So at the moment the Space Case Scout (small) is at the top of my list for micro amount crumbling. If there are any other suggestions I'm keen to know. I'm only interested in purchasing a grinder available on mainland UK.

Thanks, I'll look into those. I don't think they'll have a similar shipping offer for UK since Canada is at least in the same continent compared to UK/EU.

Ideally I'd still rather purchase domestically if possible since it's good to support local distributors/retailers. Maybe in the new year some domestic retailers will be in a position to carry the nano grinder. Still interested in knowing how the MFLB Nano compares with the SC Scout.

I have just received the Headchef 2pcs nano grinder, ordered from Everyonedoesit.com.
I was searching something for micro amounts too (0.05g or so), and it's almost perfect.
It's really small (30mm) and has lots of little sharp diamond shaped teeth and magnetic lids.
Just tried it, the result is a nice powder.
The only bad thing, some powder remains inside the tool, and it's hard to reclaim... but probably this concerns all grinders, this is my first one so I don't know.

It's not the nano. The only grinder named Nano AFAIK is the MixnBall (30mm)- I've got a couple and love this model, but it's hard to find. The Head Chef Mini (likely the one you're referring to) is an especially good deal- 30mm with black anodized coating that holds up great, and only about $10 delivered from the UK- http://www.everyonedoesit.co.uk/onl...iece-grinder---black-30mm.cfm?iProductID=7939

It's not hard to get out at all. Just brush it out. Some kind of small brush is a 'must have' with any grinder.

The key for this fine of a grind is to make sure your herb is dry. A 50mm size works fine if the product is dry enough. You just keep grinding until all the herb is the consistency you want.

I assumed that a 35mm grinder like the space case scout would be more suitable for the small amounts I'm interesting in reducing to powder. I'd have expected (using my logic anyway) that a small grinder like the space case scout would be ideal for smaller amounts. I read that the holes in their kief/4pc version of the space case scout have a slighter smaller diameter than their larger 50mm+ grinders with kief catchers. From this, I deduced that the 35mm scout grinder is optimal for smaller amounts compared to larger (50mm+) grinders. However, maybe this only refers to space case brand.

Thanks for the reminder about the dryness being key.

Yes the 4 pc. Scout has smaller holes than the other SC models, but the really fine grind best suited to the MF is going to be best achieved with a 2 pc. grinder. If the herb is dry, it'll bust up nicely, for the most part, with the Scout, but with a 2 pc. you can get a fine consistency that's uniform. No 4 pc. grinder (unless turned upside down) can grind as fine as even a large 2 pc. The holes in any 4 pc. allow larger pieces to escape further grinding, while using a 2 pc. lets you grind until you get the consistency you want.

Bit of miscommunication going on here.

I wasn't planning on getting a 4 pc scout. I was only using the information posted by others about the smaller hole size in the (35mm) 4 pc scout compared to the 4pc 50mm space cases as implication that the 35mm scout (4pc or 2pc) is superior to the (4pc or 2pc) 50mm space case for grinding small amounts as finely as possible.

That was under the assumption that the 4pc and 2pc are identical in every other regard within the same model.

However, you're definitely right in what you said about the 2pc model and did a good job of articulating the vague thoughts which led to me deciding to pick up the 2pc model of the space case scout (aside from the stash area under the grinder which is an additional pc) rather than the 4 pc version. Having read your post I can see a compelling logical reason why most 2pc models will be superior to 4pc models for fine grinding.

TBH though, I've not even seen the 4pc kief version of the scout in any of my local headshops and have only heard of it via forums. Does it actually exist?!

Good find! Although it's the standard 50mm size, "twice the teeth as the competition" makes it sound like an ideal grinder for small amounts. I wonder how it compares to the 35mm scout though. Also, it would be great if they release a 2pc version so I can continually grind (dry) bud until it's as fine as possible. Although I guess I'm running the risk of fine bud falling through the screen of the lsv then...

I should probably try seeing if the volcano's fine screens work with the LSV and/or post a question on the LSV thread.
