just got the PVHES GonG turbo 18mm attachement for the Solo... it's basically an open stem... how do you put a screen in that? I am having a hard time with this.

thanks,
Todd

Take the screen and put it on the tip of your pinkie and apply some pressure to form somewhat of a bowl shape (you can use the end of a rounded pen as well), from there slowly wedge the screen into the Gong until it catches the ridge of where the glass holds the screen in place, good luck

Thanks for the advice/reply.... this thing is pretty absurd... I have never in all my time smoking ever purchased such a device that was this hard to get a screen in... it renders it pretty much useless... I will most likely be sending it back. A shame. I have been dicking with this for over and hour. oh well...

hmm, mine came with a screen securely installed in it already....did you check your packaging for a screen that may have popped out in transit?

Hoops, unfortunately nothing but the GonG and a bag of Doritos??? I was hoping that there were maybe instructions written on the Bag somewhere but no such luck. It feels more like a gag gift really...smile. I have never seen such a non existant lip or rim... there is really nothing for the screen to catch on and the slick glass just flips the screen around and through the hole... in all seriousness if the screen popped out (providing you ever get it in) during a session it would literally kill the party. it shouldn't be this difficult. I just hate that I have to send it back to Canada... jeesh.

Sounds like you might have gotten a defective one ... Contact PV and I'm sure they'll make it right as their customer service is always outstanding (at least always has been for me)

I'm not sure how you could have that much difficult with putting the screen in.
Try setting the screen with it slightly bowled so it's sitting evenly on the rim of the bowl, then slowly pressing with your pinky with the edges of the screen sliding down the walls of the glass, a reasonable tightness. Once it hits the slight ledge, you're good. I've never had trouble with the screen popping up.

If there's no screen in the packaging, you can go out and buy a pack of 5 (preferably .5", but you can get .75" ones and then cut them to size with toenail clippers to cut it with curved edges) for less than a dollar if you want.

Edit: Screen size goof, thanks Stu

Armerad, have you actually used .25" screens? I can't imagine that they fit as I've always used .5" and they're perfect (slightly domed but can be pressed flat).

I'm thinking they couldn't get one in either...smile... that's why there isn't one in there.... I'd like to see someone else's turbo... I can't believe this isn't defective...and Amerad... I'm well aware of your technique... I've been smoking over 30 years and dealt with lots of screens... including the one in my Solo stem... this GonG though is something else though.

It definitely sounds like you got a bum stem, spaceloooper. From PV's website:

Turbo Option
  • Large Single Bore with a glass rim to hold the required screen
  • micro channel technology
  • multiple air entry points

That's what I think too ... no glass rim = defective ... and if there was a glass rim I can't see how one could possibly struggle getting the screen in place ... if you want to confirm post a pic or just contact PV and I'm sure they'll work things out for you.

I'm away from my kit at the moment, I'll try to get some pictures up for you once I'm home later today. Here's an MS Paint I whipped up, if that helps.

Armerad,
I'll take a macro later today spacelooper. Can you take a photo of yours? In the meantime I'd contact PV so that's out of the way if you do need to get a replacement.
