I'm not scaring him off. He already said if it does this at all he doesn't want to take the risk. Even you admit they do this at least in the beggining. That alone violates his wants. If I'm scaring him off, then so are you.

Silly me, I read him saying "I ordered one the other day and found out about that problem only recently. My davinci has not arrived yet but I am worried to even consider the vape, I don't want burnt plastic going into my lungs......" and took that to mean he hadn't even got it yet.......

Somehow he got worried about non existent "burnt plastic", I made what seemed like a logical assumption on how that might have happened.....

But, when for a lot of people these fumes have stayed around and I have also checked out some videos, it does not seem too safe.

Well and good, but there's also a lot of us who claim they do in fact go away. Check it out for yourself or not, your call.

Good luck which ever way you go. FWIW Pax seems to have a loyal following, although like most vapes a few detractors. It's a very personal world around here. Lots of experts.....

No you were clear in your arguments, don't get me wrong but it is not only ej that has brought up the problem, but others in the thread too. I have been reading through and once I read more thoroughly I realized this problem was very prominent.

I don't understand the big deal here at all. Yeah, I experienced some initial burn off vapors. Hell, I am sure I inhaled quite a few of them. I'm still standing and still use the DV.

Honestly, if it was harmful I do not believe you will die instantly of toxic fumes... They harm you more in the way of cancer.... But you might have gotten a product that has not been effected by this problem which is great :D. I am going to try and burn off the vapor hoping it disappears but if it is not gone within a day, I am returning it. I got it off of ebay and dont have too much time to return it if I need to.

Yeah, it's pretty lightweight though. I mean it's no Trippy Stick, G Pen or RAW now is it?

Could well be, but not the sort of stuff you expect from FOOD SAFE materials, usually.

FWIW I think you missed Stu's point, but I'm not sure it's really important? The point he was making, I think, is he agrees with me that the vapors burn off over time?

Ya stu if you were expecting to take one hit and fall over dead, I don't know what to tell you. You aren't gonna notice anything until its too late. That's an excellent plan to test it. I did the same thing, and it didn't pass for me.

BTW I will report back my findings once I have cycled my brand new unit 100 times. Lets see if that's enough to make it go away, though I think most people would be frustrated by the 30 times I've already cycled.

IMHO: The 'mystery' vapors of my unit were harmless and went away quickly. I'm not here to bullshit someone into buying a vaporizer that might harm them. It's not my style. But we are all free to make our own choices, and so we shall.

Buy it, don't buy it. I don't really care.

It get's me high, though so I think it's a slick device.

YMMV.

Headache enough all points made this is just going in circles now. Like Stu said buy or don't or get something else. All will believe what they want and some don't even give a shit about inhaling a mystery vape. Not everyone stops combusting for health reasons there are many reasons. Kids huff and do all kinds of stuff what makes you think they care if a vape off gases. We are all aware of the issues with this vape and the fact that almost all vapes need a burn in to burn off machine oils and crap. We all make our decisions based on what we feel comfortable with. I personally would never by a pax does that make you wrong for wanting one...NO.
I personally hate this emotioncon but it fits here:horse:

Good points, Honestly I am probably not going to buy a pax just yet.... I will give the davinci a try, I bought it over the pax because of all the cool features it had. I really just hope that it doesnt end up to be a bust

One man's bust can be another's pride an joy. I think it is a 'feature rich' vape. It has shortcomings, of course, but the temperature control is really first rate IMO. It lets you 'work' a small load in stages.

I don't know if you can get concentrates where you are, but it comes with 'cans' for that use. I pulled a bit out of a Volcano pad and stuck it in the bottom of one of mine and use it for hash oils (a drop or two at a time) or bubble (a personal favorite). If you can get concentrates, I recommend you check that part out.

Anyway, good luck with DV, I think it has a lot to offer. I'd get another for sure if I somehow lost this one.

Euh...
Harmless empty-bowl fumes?... Why do i keep missing the crunchy passages?!!

Maybe this can be settled with a vote. Like, who's still getting persistant fumes from an empty DaVinci bowl, etc., and who isn't???

...with a video being mandatory for each reply...

Item worked perfectly for 24 hours. Now the red/green led blinks 5 times, pauses 2 seconds, blinks 5 times, pauses 2 secs. forever. The digital display reads 879 deg in F mode, reads 958 in C mode and is adjustable +/- 100. Item does not heat up. Put on charger for several hours with no change. The charger is functioning properly. Loved it when it worked. Have sent the vendor an email, they have a two week no questions asked return policy for refund or replacement. I don't want a refund as I loved the performance when it performed. Also, did not have the gassing problem experienced by many as I tested with nothing in chamber, new out of box, several times connected to charger and viewed with flashlight as others have, no visible emissions. Not sure if I should get a replacement DV or go PAX. Seems DV has great design features but can't produce a finished, reliable product. Wow, am a bit stunned, just got off the telephone with Karma Classic and told them I was having a problem with a DV that I just received, and HE TOLD ME THE PROBLEM BEFORE I DESCRIBED IT TO HIM!, are they selling products with known defects? Wow, not having a real good feeling about this purchase, here is a YouTube link to demo problem:

Your call, but after using my DV everyday for a couple months I would say give them another shot. I love mine and have had zero issues. I don't have any other vapes to compare it to, but I'm a very happy customer.

GreenRoom,
I'm on my third unit and if this one is defective ill just get another one. I never contemplated getting a refund because the DaVinci fit my needs so well. It did everything I wanted but better than I expected, my units were just defective.. Even this unit sometimes stops charging when it's at 3 bars and I just have to un plug the charger and plug it back in. So yes, you might have to deal with a defective unit, but if it is what you are looking for I would recommend getting another one and trying again. The DV is what I really wanted though so IDK if this will help you. Karma is supposedly putting out a new unit this year and I'm hoping they will do trade-ins. You might not want to deal with defects, but every unit I have ever purchased besides my arizer solo has had some problems, and I dropped my Solo in a cup of water, though it still works, I have the worst luck so even if I was to get a refund and get a new unit it would either be defective or I would mess it up haha. Good luck

My only unit that had no issues was the DV and the SSV. The SSV was bought from someone so it was fully tested so I don't count it. My luck isn't good either Ape but such is life.

Dreamerr,
Well the problems with the SSV are me. I've broke two heater covers and the only reason I say it is defective is because I think the heating element isn't running as hot as it used to and before I sent it in my heating element came to far out exposing some wires and I could never get them back in. There are many variables though so it is hard to tell, but they would fix the heating element for pretty cheap so it's not a big deal. I have HORRIBLE luck. I hated the MFLB's batteries so I thought the power adapter would help me so I bought it and it was basically defective.

I had to press like since there isn't an unlike button, I feel ya button, we are in the same boat button and many more of the same. I had to send in the MFLB cause I couldn't get any batteries to work...I liked my old one now I have the new style which leaks herb from the crack that has been made by the "lock". I have moved paced that vape anyhow cause you know I love my INH.

We usually recommend using a dental pick to get the bottom screen out. Works like a charm. There's really nothing down there to break, so don't worry about that part.

Dear FC members,

As the designer and manufacturer of Da Vinci, I would like to address the comments regarding mystery vapor and offer this comprehensive response. The mystery vapor which few have seen is a short term purification process of an organic rock based insulation material called Mica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mica) which if not fully 'burned in' will continue to burn off the impurities until cooked away. Because Mica sheet is an organic rock compound, the amount of dirt and sand (impurities) varies inch by inch and can leave a larger deposit in one application over another. The purpose of the Mica Sheet is to insulate the heating wires from the metal bowl (this keeps the bowl from passing electricity to any metal object you might stick in it).

We chose to use Mica sheet insulation because it is well proven in the consumer and vaporizer industry. It is used in your oven, microwave, lanterns and other vaporizers because it insulates electricity and is an organic material that is stable in high heat environments. We also feel the organic compound is a better choice than the adhesive backed synthetic insulating jackets that are also offered.

All manufacturers employ a 'burn in' process and as a result to comments on mystery vapor, we have doubled our 'burn in' time to further eliminate these impurities. This additional burn in time has curbed all issues. But if there was any remaining organic vapor, it is because we use several Mica layers wrapped around the bowl and occasionally a collection of debris may take longer to burn off.

Da Vinci is one of very few brands who actually own and operate their own dedicated manufacturing facility so I take great concern on the materials brought in and our QC processes. We are engaged with the vape community in an unending effort to raise the bar and help bring the best products to market. In the end, we are a dedicated group of like-minded souls who wake and breathe the dream of building the ultimate vaporizer and we respect your insights.

So along with these elaborate explanations, I thank you for the scrutiny. Such comments have tuned our ears and I have buried myself in 'bowl research' for the last year. The cumulation of my research has led us to develop the most advanced glass on glass portable vape (www.davincivaporizer/Ascent - coming this March) with great detail to a consistent bowl temperature and uniform heat. The pure taste will be a 'first' in the industry and with a 4 hour battery in a device smaller than the iPhone is a testament that we are listening to a committed vape community.

Thank you again for your continued support and respectful comments.

Wow, I honestly thought this response would never come, so thank you. So it is okay to be inhaling that mica vapor? I'm willing to trust davinci on this, but I have to know whether something is safe to inhale before I do it. Just reread the post, so it is actually dirt and sand vapor, not micah vapor, am I correct? Am I ok to use my unit that still does this, or should I send it back in?

The unit is fine, as it is truly just dirt and sand, but as we've stated in the past, if you're worried about it or think its an inconvenience to cycle it through that many times, I'll be happy to send a new one out for you. At the end of the day, I just want you to be happy with your product.
