Thanks JoeKickass for the info and reasonable estimation of the maximum length (it would actually be 67mm instead of 670mm, but who's counting). ;)

18650 batteries also vary in width from the nominal 18mm, so the actual width of the battery compartment would also be most welcome.

We all know, OF, that you believe that companies have no obligation to release full information about their devices. Can you suggest why TET would withhold the size of the battery compartment from purchasers, current and prospective?

While we share your belief that the good folks at TET are conscientious, honest people, they are not perfect, perhaps even in their view of the available range of batteries. For instance, had they contemplated an LV use of their T1 power supply, would it not have been preferable to make the battery compartment a mm or two wider to accommodate the range of 18650 batteries available, instead of the limited variety of available 17670 batteries? That choice was certainly not the result of the best planning.

First off, I also think the Panasonic battery is likely, it's a high performer.

Yes, I believe any guy (or company) has a right to confidential information and gets to decide what that means. Does Chevy tell you all the tires or batteries you might want to use with their car? Last I checked, they supply factory units to those who want them? I see no difference here, really.

If you'd been paying attention you'd know some of the answers you seem bent on having. TV has told us it has to be a button top and that the basic ceramic tube is 3/4 bore, 1/8 wall, 1 inch OD. There's a thin ground strap up the wall, but batteries also tend to not be round. I have 9 different 18 mm batteries here, they all fit in diameter, I can't tell you about length for sure as the spring in my cap is not the production version (it wasn't in yet.......).

I also think you're way off base with the T1 point. You do understand that supply already existed because of SV e-cig products before T1 ever came up, right? It was built around the RCR123As for 6 Volt use. Making it bigger would not only not have served a useful purpose but the slight rattle that exists even with the 'right battery' is already objected to by some medical users (it's in the TV thread, also shows up with the Alpha Ultra....the 'fix' is a strip of paper next to the battery).

I never said I thought they (or anyone else for that matter) was perfect, please accept my apology if I ever conveyed that. Rather I believe they are true standouts in many areas (like using existing parts), they know more about the materials and processes being used (and the results being looked for) than any other company I can name off hand, and I've worked for or dealt with quite a few. I don't expect others to share that opinion, it's enough to just give it out and back it up as best I can. So, they're not perfect, but IMO pretty darn good at what they do. They are making one of the very few vapes I think we can call 'state of the art' with a straight face, they're making it from raw materials of their own control (not e-cig parts from overseas), using the best possible materials and Domestic labor. I like those kinds of things.

How wide is that thin ground strap inside the tube? I was thinking of experimenting with an 18490 battery and the Kick wattage adjusting module from Evolv that serious e-cig people seem to like a lot. There's a little ground spring on the side of the module that needs contact with metal. Is the strap wide enough so I wouldn't have to worry about the ground spring slipping off due to rotation?

Kick-6.jpg

The Kick only adjusts from 5 to 10 watts, which should work with a standard EL cart, but I'd have to get a custom job on my EO cart I guess. If it even has a chance to work. I would mostly be using it to back off on the heat a little depending on the oil. Anyway, hopefully TET is still flexible about customizing like they were with the previous generation.

edit: this pic shows the spring better

Salutations,

I failed to find a link even browing through the last 4 pages. More details would have been worth it IMO.

:2c:

It's a module that delivers constant watts to carts. Typically resistance will change as your coil heats up, which will affect the power delivered, and wattage can vary depending on the battery's charge. The module will deliver the same power to the cart at all times until the battery dies. E-cig people use it to bump up the power in addition to keeping the power constant for a better vaping experience.

The manufacturer's site is http://www.evolvapor.com/kick/ and if you do a search on YouTube for Evolv Kick there's lots of in depth reviews from the e-cig crowd.

Interesting, I recall seeing that somewhere, but don't recall where off hand. Unfortunately, it won't work since the ground strap has a mylar covering. At least I think it ends up that way. IIRC the final version is slightly different from what I have which is about 3/8 wide and has the center 3/16 of that covering the foil conductor. I think the final one is wider? Anyway, it's insulated. I wonder if you couldn't do the same thing with a flat ribbon under tape on the side of the battery? That's how it's done 'under the wrap' as I understand it.

Sort of important to us I think. Folks need not worry about the resistance changing a lot with temperature, while that can be a problem with some of the more common alloys (read 'cheaper' if you want), the specific one used by TV is nearly the industry standard for temperature stability. It's also worth noting that the convection cart (LL) runs quite hot and needs no control really (since the user controls heat transfer) so I think the advantage would be with the oil and juice carts.

There, IMO, turning it down a notch or two might come in mighty handy sometimes (at least with oil, I've never tried the tincture version.......

Oh well. That sucks. Rather than try to cobble something together I will wait for the 510 to 3/8 adapter and just screw the cart on to something like a Silver Bullet.

Sorry, I wish I had better news. I think your approach is a more straight forward way to go about it, and it lets you prove the system on other 510 stuff first.

Either way, I think you'll be pleased. Time will tell. But about two weeks from now I suspect we're going to be jammed up with happy campers around here.......'bout time as some might say?

No need for personal slights here OF. We're none of us perfect, not even you one suspects. :)

As exemplified by one of my previous posts (this is not, however, an invitation to attack), there are times when most everyone seems to have missed something here. When I pointed out that in one of the videos Noah had warned purchasers against using the Cera w/EO upside down, I was questioned by two posters. When the link to the video with appropriate time designation was provided as verification, no one mentioned the topic again.

One would have thought that the verification would have at least opened the topic to discussion again. ;)

Your contributions to this forum, and FC generally, often provide great value to us all and are well-appreciated. Your defense of TET, IMHO, might perhaps be more vigorous than circumstances sometimes require.

The Alpha Ultramax power supply was also the result of design decisions. Your defense just begs the question as to why it wasn't designed with the 18650 in mind originally. A simple sleeve insert would have accommodated less wide batteries without a rattle. Perhaps that was too low tech for TET.

BTW The posts about the button top were previously noted, but as JoeKickass mentioned the situation is a bit more complicated than you stated. The size of the battery compartment will be known to all as soon as a Cera purchaser decides to measure. What would be the point of withholding that information for the (one imagines) short interval between my question and the delivery of Cera to the purchasers? Wouldn't it be sad, and pointless, were TET to regard the size of the battery compartment as proprietary?

Best,

bopper

I don't know I am starting to think OF is a :borg: the man never seems to sleep even WITH the CeraEO (that thing should be putting down rastafarian buffalo as OF so eloquently put it one time  ) and damn near has the answer for everything. He's like the the wizard OZ for vaping (......oddly fitting actually too since he has no avatar )

Hope everything is goin well at TET I look forward to seeing these things in action soon!

I've been monitoring a little ... (not too closely as it's Christmas time and all), and thought I'd pipe up; I don't often pipe up too much, however, I thought I would like to offer an unbiased opinion in defense of TET.

  1. To me it seems they have provided excellent service to-date. Even if one was to wait for all the extra options to be available, the Cera still wouldn't be delivered too long after the expected delivery date (2 weeks to 2 months? -- give or take based on what I've gathered from my skimming)
  2. They have been more than forthcoming with information regarding the status of all orders and everything that is going on. They haven't operated 100% transparently, but nonetheless, have been very transparent.
  3. They are being criticized for being transparent and forthcoming with projections. Projections are just that. They are not written in stone.
  4. Personally, I am glad they have been providing projections, and reasons for delays, and options; others may not feel so and that is the risk with providing these.
  5. One recommendation TET--you may want to start providing a range with a likely case and then tighten that range as things become more certain. This will perhaps help avoid any misconceptions but will give customers a good idea of when things will be delivered. (this is what we do in software development ... when they first ask for an estimate it might be in the area of 2 days to 2 years ... than we start gathering requirements and tightening timelines so that by the time we are through requirements and design, we can estimate development +/- 10-50% depending on risk and all kinds of other things ... man I'm rambling :))
  6. I can't wait to get my Cera and my initial communications and immediate follow up after my order have been great and extremely prompt.
If you don't provide any information than you run the risk of losing potential customers that will instead spend their money on something that you personally believe is not as well suited. If you do provide the information, than everyone jumps down your throat over technicalities and things that are out of your control that have led to them having to slightly adjust their expectations (after all, in this society of immediate gratification, if one can't have what they want immediately when they want it then they throw a tantrum--have I mentioned .... I REALLY WANT MY CERA ... I REALLY WANT MY CERA ... NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW .... ... couldn't help myself ... wanted to have some of the fun yelling and screaming and throwing a fit!)

Alright ... now I'm really rambling ... so better quit while I'm ... ?ahead? ...

He refuses an avatar, I asked. He can't find something fitting although the wizard sounds good. So I was going to write a long post on how I got my Cera but decided it wasn't funny.

Agreed Jcat...I think the issues that came up couldn't be helped. I think the people here just wanted a brief...ut oh we had a flood post sooner then it came and all might have been ok. The other stuff going on is out of there control as well and you are soooooooooooo right about this new immediate gratification society. FFS we didn't even have remotes for the TV when we were kids and only a few channels with bad reception.

just finished browsing the TET site. I've come away a bit confused.

firstly they claim the cera is "award winning" what award has this cera won? I see NO reference to it whatsoever that this claim is based on fact and if they had actually won an award for it I would think there would be PROOF of it, not just having it in a video.

return policy, and warranty. wow. I can only return it within THREE days completely UNUSED, and they will be inspecting returns thoroughly. that does not build my confidence in this product. If it has lifetime warranty on all but the "heater" why would a mouth piece be listed at 50 dollars? 50, is it not covered by the lifetime warranty? am I missing something here?

why is it listed at 250, when it will not operate without the battery and charger, so a cera is actually 295 not 250. my guess it they want it to "feel" cheaper and a better deal, afterall 250 seems much more appealing than 295. unless this has free shipping one working unit with nothing extra will cost north of 300 dollars.

over 300 dollars and the ONLY way I can get my money back is with a completely unused unit and within 3 days time? WoW, I'm sorry there are things that just don't jive, in my mind. so we can buy this 300 $ plus unit and can only return it if unused?

where is the burning trash can and the bucket of water? cups and plates are cheap I guess and quite relative to its task of vaping. Does it hammer nails and chop wood too? :disgust: pure sensationalism , I suppose it may impress some, not me.

not what I would expect from folks that clearly have prior manufacture and marketing knowledge.

one last thing I find it BIZZARE that u can go to their site and can't even buy the thermovape only the cera. If a person did not know about the thermovape they would think the cera is their only product. its as though it never existed. odd.

all valid points to consider.

Hate me if you like, I care not, I'm not here to kiss ass, tip toe and tap dance around people or issues. I am expressing my opinion from my observations, that is all. " I calls 'em like I see's 'em "

That's return policy for a full refund. I don't know many manufacturers that will refund money blindly on used products. The warranty is very different. If the heater core dies in six months, up to a year, you can send it in and have it repaired for no cost. Anything else there isn't even the a time limit on the warranty. Oh and the cap, sometimes people drop and lose things, which is not covered by warranty.

Also, I cant find them reffering to the cera as award winning, but perhaps I am missing something.

But you probably shouldn't listen to me, I'm just 'impressed' by the 'sensationalism'

the first batch of ceras havent been shipped yet. there will be a plethora of information on cera vs pax in the next few weeks to come. i promise.

IIRC, the cera is said to have 45 min of continuous use with a 2900mah battery. a 2250mah battery will give 30min of use.

hope this helps.

I'm one of the very few who have used it. Unfortunately I don't have a Pax (or have ever seen one even). I have a Beta unit and a couple of different power carts and 3 kinds of batteries so there's no fixed answer for you. As an estimate I'd say 30 to 45 minutes of battery. While you can leave the power on full time (and get 3 or 4 ten minute sessions) it's a huge waste of power. Used normally, I'd say the average session is in the 3 to 5 minute range with herb so it could be a few as six or as many as 15 depending on the user and use pattern. It does get going very fast.

For oil use, a battery is good for more vaping than you and five friends are. Seriously. It will do a gram or more (there's some scary video of that sort of action around here somewhere).

Recharge times are short, under two hours. However, it's good to remember the batteries are removable so it's under a minute to swap out a fresh charged one and get back to business.

So, you tell me, how does it 'size up'?

TIA

Me too, I calls 'em as I see 'em. I own two Thermovape products, THAT'S why I will have a Cera. They are not for everyone, and obviously not you, but as someone whom has experience with Thermovape products I feel it is a bargain at $250. The T1 was originally sold for $250, and I was pleased as punch to get a T1 for $250 and never regretted it, not even after the prices dropped ... I got what I paid for.

Add longer battery life and a cool ceramic casing as well as a plethora of other features and sell the base model with all the standard upgrades for the price of the original T1? What the hell else could you ask for?

I don't know of another convection vape that is that small and works that well. I am a flavor man, and IMO, convection cannot be beat for flavor.

I cannot understand why you would flog a company you have never done business with? I usually wait until after I purchase a product before I make a decision to give the product a thumbs up or down.

And for the life of me, I cannot find the Chrysler K car on any of Chryslers new car websites, it's almost as if they quit selling them after they came out with a new model. That's okay though, I never buy Chryslers anyway, I just wanted to complain that I couldn't.

Please do not get me wrong, I do not hate you, but I DO hate being around complainers, especially complainers that have nothing to go on but conjecture. Just like the Congressman whom will not vote for legalization, just because of the things he has heard from others.

If you tried the product and did not like it, feel free to complain all you want. But please don't waste my time and the time of others with your 'angry for no reason' posts. I vape to make myself happy, not to read inane posts from people that have misplaced anger issues.

I call 'em as I see 'em ...
