vaporizing salvia

Yeah kids these days have no respect for psychedelics. Back in my day... :D

Well if salvia's legal and marijuana's illegal... salvia must be super safe! :brow:

I can now attest that Salvia can be successfully vaporized with a VaporGenie.

The main hindrance is that a certain skill has to be developed before getting consistent results. Along the learning curve, there are lots of "no effect" and lots of started combustions.

In my technique, I keep a costant air flow and modulate the temperature by varying the distance between the flame and the bowl. Flame is applied vertically with only the tip of the flame put in the hole of the bowl.

I've found that the ideal point for vaporizing salvinorin-a is "just before the throat starts to burn". So when I feel that, I move away the flame lowering the temperature and thus avoiding the combustion.

I fill the lungs completely and hold as long as I can. I am able to take only two hits in total, because salvia starts kicking in very quickly.

The level of the experience is as deep as I would get from a waterbong, but of course it's more enjoyable because there is no coughing and I can concentrate better on the experience. Anyway my throat usually gets sore due to the high temperature of the airflow, which is something I would like to fix in the future (perhaps with the use of a water filter?).

Now that I proved myself that Salvia can be vaporized, I am going to test a standard convection vaporizer. I was thinking of getting a DBV which I'm told is a device that can reach the necessary temperature. Is that true?

Ah, forgot to say, all my experiments were done with plain leaf, no extracts used.

good first post! :D

yes dabuddha will indeed get hot enough, most of the vaporizers that dont have digital temperature controls will get hot enough, dabuddha and ssv are a simple heating element attached to a rheostat and as such dont have a low maximum temp

i just got my vaporgenie a couple days ago so im itching to order a couple ounces of plain leaf for myself

hey guys, check out this site I just found: salviasociety .org I heard about it on Fox News last night. The guy who owns it was talking how he's trying to stop legislation in different states from banning the herb. I hope he succeeds, meanwhile they just banned it in my State (Minnesota)

AoZ that is immensely interesting that saliva has a reverse tolerance effect. Do you buy your pain leaf online or in a local headshop? If you buy online would you mind putting a link.

I have always had a negative view of the drug just because of the attitude most people i am around have. Legal weed that's stronger, which clearly the psychedelic effects produced from saliva are very different from that of cannabis. I have seen a few youtube videos of saliva trips and all of them put me off even more. Starting small and working your way up is clearly the only way to not abuse this plant. I have a genie and am very interested in trying to vaporize some plain leaf, so please tell about your experience in the vg if you end up buying some. :)

i will certainly post my experience, right now im waiting to see if ill have moiney to order some, try bouncing bear botanicals online, but first check your state laws and make sure that it hasnt been banned, becaue you could get into some serious trouble

i dont have extensive personal experience with salvia. like most things i have gained my knowledge through countless hours of searching and research. aquiring knowledge is a passtime for me

it is very troubling to me the way most approach this plant, they treat it like legal weed when it is clearly very different, nad therefore bringing the wrath of the anti drug stigma upon it. the youtube videos are especially infuriating to me because they are being used as ammunition for the propaganda

from my experience, it has little value as a recreational drug, but it is very valuable as a tool for psychonautics

yea i live in Nevada :uhoh: Reno actually... if you have seen the show
Most west coast states seem to be a little slower on the uptake with the banning of it.
This thread has opened my eyes to the small community around salvia that use it for exploration and spiritual growth. I am extremely interested to see how i would react to such a powerful mind altering experience.

For all of you salvia veterans i would love to hear stories of experiences

I smoked salvia a while ago. It is definitely an extremely intense experience. I have tripped acid and some other psychadelics, and salvia is a much different 'trip'. Salvia experiences, when smoked or vaped, tend to be extremely short(~10 minutes) and intense.

My friend gave me some 15x extract and I smoked it out of a bubbler with a torch lighter. I took one or two large hits, holding them in for a long time, and my friend took the bowl. The visions descend fast and I closed my eyes. I literally felt like I was in an amusement park ride filled with mirrors and flashing lights. I ended up in the desert letter. Basically, my trip felt like a coherent story unfolding in my head. After smoking salvia, I had a pretty odd reaction and was still slightly tripping for the next 15 minutes or so. It felt stellar. I loved the experience and definitely am going to pursue more in the future.

I want to grow salvia when I'm older if it is still legal..

Smoking plain leaf is different I've heard. Vaping it is even more so. From my research, it sounds like the ideal method of consumption is to get a tincture. With a tincture, the experience is less intense but lasts around 45 minutes.

Like Acolyte said, it is definitely a tool for exploration, but not for fun. Around here, salvia became really popular amongst high school kids for legal weed. Everyone tried it, and pretty much every kid ended up tripping out of their mind. It is extremely different from weed and NOT recreational. It is not to be messed with, very potent.

absolutely not recreational. Despite the "psychadelic" part of the trip is amazing to experience, most of the people who do Salvia never try it a second time. Regular users have noticed a sort of anti-addictive property: the more you use, the less you want to use. So some people found themselves continually procrastinating their next salvia experience.

One thing that amazes me is Salvia's introspective quality. It digs in your subconscious getting back what you have buried and forgotten for decades. For example, once Salvia showed me how my childhood fear for dogs (yes I feared dog bites a lot!) impacted on the way I've grown up. Something I had long forgotten, but apparently not deleted from my mind.

This guy apparently has successfully vaporized Salvia in a Volcano. He gives the complete story. I hope it's okay if I cross post his message here:

Salvia and my Volcano - 10th February 2009, 03:23 AM

Hello all, here is the account of my salvia trips with my Volcano vaporizer. First, yes it works and very well. In theory, the maximum temperature of 446 F (470 F for Salvinorin A to melt) is not hot enough for vaporization, anyway it works.

I always use 3-4 big dry leaves that I crush with my mj grinder to almost a powder. I open the Volcano, wait until it reaches 446 F, fill the chamber and leave it on the heater for 4-5 min. It then gets to 446 F already (more efficient - no loss during the first heating of the herb) and then I fill the bag.

Vaporized salvia is somewhat odorless and almost transparent. There is a small haze in the air inside the bag, but it is only a tiny bit of smoke. With good mj, it can get completely opaque. I then inhale in 2.5 big inhalations. If the bag was a bit bigger, I could fill it for 3 full instead if two and a half. There is no taste, no harshness at all. It feels like heated air, that's it. It's a LOT easier to "smoke" salvia this way, as the smoke with a pipe/bong is very harsh and acrid.

Three inhalations is only what I can take, as I can feel it coming at the second one. Like with mj, I find the vaporized salvia high clearer and easier to follow. One interesting thing is that I always have a very similar experience. Always. And that was not the case with smoked (with a pipe) salvia extract, where I landed in a different place every time. There was also a feeling of pressure that I don't get anymore.

First, it's like the fabric of space is teared apart, and kind of another dimension is added through the rip. It happens as a vibration (2-3 Hz) and then it gets permanent. I see no "reality roll" or anything like that. I always do it with my eyes closed first, so I have no visuals except when I get to the other side. All this is a sensation only (I become aware of the fabric of space - kind of), and the trip to this alternate world happens very fast, in about 10-15 seconds.

In the alternate world, I am another "person". The feeling is very close to being a human, but the world feels a bit different. It's always the same world, but not always at the same place. It's like I become this another person, with his/her (don't know) memories, feelings, but at first I still remember who I am and that I smoked salvia. But it fades fast and I soon forget who I am and become this alternate person fully.

This alternate world is really alternate, in the sense that it feels like another disconnected reality. It's not like the salvia world is the real world and this world down here is an illusion, as some feel and experience. It's more like there are two disconnected realities, both at the same level of "realness. They are just two separate worlds, not encapsulated one into the other.

Its very hard to give a lot of details about the alternate existence, because it seems the memories are strongly associated to each person and there is only a very small "channel" between them. A better image would be that my consciousness has some kind of "width" it can experience. Let's say both realities are on a continuous scale, down earth at one extremity and the alternate world at the other. I can only feel/experience a small part of this scale at a time, and when I take salvia, my experience moves on that scale from the left to the right. I can only comprehend what fits in my consciousness width, so it's always mostly one reality or the other. After a trip, I still have some memories of the alternate world, but they fade fast and I have to write this as fast as possible before I forget.

For those being familiar with the channeling of spirits/entities, becoming the alternate person feels like being channeled. However, I am the spirit being channeled into this alternate world!

There are many people in the alternate world, all very familiar and friendly. I truly feel like being among friends. And i kinda remember that they watch me/look at me while I'm being channeled there. I never felt or saw anything that wasn't very familiar or friendly, so taking salvia is never frightening. It's strange, because I often hesitate taking it, even if I'm always happy to have done it after.

Becoming this alternate person is quite a shock at first, a bit like remembering who I really am. But with time and over many trips, I think this "remembering who I am" is more an artefact, a side effect of becoming someone else. However I'm not totally decided about this...

As i've said, I always land in the same world, but not in the same place. It seems that's because I become this person at different times, and he/she has his/her own life that continues independently of mine. When I become him, I see and feel what he his doing at that time.

It's very frustrating to be so limited in what I can bring back from that world. The irony is that I remember everything when I take salvia again, only to forget most of it when I come back... From what I can remember, I am aware of the existence of this reality in the alternate world. When the trip is ending, I know I'm going away and I wave good bye to all my friends, telling them that I will come back soon. I then get into a mix of both realities, starting to forget some things. In between worlds, I don't know who I am, as I'm not the alternate person anymore and not my "true" self yet. Often I open my eyes at that stage, sometimes very confused. If there is music playing, my experience morphs with it and sensory information is generally distorted and interpreted incorrectly, leading to all kinds of strange stuff. The rip in space then vibrates again and I reintegrate this world with the reverse experience.

The whole trip lasts about 10 minutes, with half of it completely in the alternate world. However, this 5 minutes away feels only 30 seconds or so in the alternate world. I'm not sure about this, but the feeling of time is different and the speed at which it "runs" is not the same, it's not linear and consistent. In the afterglow, I still feel a slight vibration and everything is yellowish for 4-5 min (strong mj sometimes does this too).

With time and experience, I seem to be able to bring back more information from the alternate world. The nature of space is so different there, so alien that it's somewhat incomprehensible for my earth self. But the language information seems alike and unaffected. I will try to record myself and tell what I see as soon as I can next time, and that might help me remember more and describe the alternate world better.

Anybody else having a similar experience?

interesting, very good find

if i may propose a speculation, he mentions that the experience is very differen,t and he reports having to use a lot more than people usually vape (6 leaves as opposed to one vaporizer bowl, which is usually aroun 0.2g), his experience may be able to be attributed to salvinorin c. salvinorin c is present at lower levels than a, and has a somewhat lower boiling point. it is also speculated that salvinorin c is more potent than salvinorin a due to the structure, but gue to the limited experimentation, its activity hasnt been proven. salvinorin a is the only one that has ben proven active, salvinorins b, d, and e have been proven inactive, but may have synergistic pharmacology. salvinorin c and f are unknown

possibly low temp salvia vaping effects the experience in a similar way that low temp mj vaping does (pulls a different profile of active components)

I tested Salvia in a Da Buddha Vaporizer and I can now report that it works quite well.

It's only a bit tricky because there is no visible vapor or "cloud", even at the highest temperature setting, so one can get cheated the first times because salvia hits 30~40 seconds later.

The method I developed simply is: inhaling evenly and holding the vapor in the lungs as long as possible. 3 hits are necessary and sufficient to teleport into salviaspace.

The overall experience is similar to smoking, only less intense and perhaps more lucid (but that could be due to my poor vaporizing skills--I'm still in the learning curve).

I use a very small amount of salvia 1x (plain) and a very short wand tube (only 5 inches) to prevent cooling of the salvinorin-a vapor.

Unapproved commercial account.
Has anyone tried using Salvia in their Vaporizer? Does it work?

I was hoping to find out if it works before I waste any of my expensive 40X.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of some of these internet sites out there, but its hard to tell whats legit and isn't without actually buying. Share some stories fuck combusters!

Additionally, whats the best setting on "Da Buddha" for salvia's higher temperature vaping? I was thinking about 4o'clock?

I have yet to try Salvia :2c:

From what I've read, fresh is the best. The plant is easy to purchase online and it is relatively easy to grow. You don't even need to dry it if you vape it fresh. Depending on how you respond, it may not be a recreational drug for you, so maybe you could just smoke it. The B.P. of the active compounds are fairly high.

I had tried salvia a few times and I didn't think it had much of an effect. A few years later a friend had some and I loaded a bong and proceeded to totally lose my sense of self for what I later learned was about five minutes from witnesses. Like totally gone. Like drooling. I have no memory of this, just a permanently bent coffee table to remind me of those five or so minutes where I was no longer a memeber of the human species. Not a fun time.

I've experienced the effects of numerous substances, fungi, and pharmacopeia of various legalities and I have to say that for me, the salvia is something I never want to touch again. Most of 'em I don't feel the need to touch again. I've learned what they had to teach me.

At any rate, enjoy, but read the labels. I think I ended up doing like 5x's the recommended dosage in my single bong rip, so that may have had something to do with it, but regardless, something that easily procured that can do such a thing doesn't seem like such a good thing to me. At the risk of sounding like an after school special, I'd just say take precautions and use common sense if you decide to mess with the stuff.

Cheers,
J

Sorry...on topic...

I believe the stuff is readily available at most headshops, and can be purchased in varying strengths. I think the kind I had that totally obliterated my brain was the most concentrated potency they had at the shop. Just be sure to read the label about dosage. Just because the stuff is available doesn't necessarily mean it should be. Use caution!

J

I really doubt that vaping it would do much. You need to smoke a large puff, keep it the longuest possible (or until you start to feel effects) then exhale. If you need another puff you don't have time to breath, you need to smoke it right away. If you slowly smoke 20 medium puff you will get no effect, from the same stuff that you would get powerful effects with one large puff smoked the proper way. The effects only last a few minutes. Also, the freshness have no influence, the active is very stable and you can keep your leaves or extract for decades if kept dry in dark/cool. Standardized extract is usally cleaner and better quality compared to a crude extract. I would suggest 10x standadized extract, but the 10x from one place can be comparable to 5x from another.

Yeah, I don't think it would do much when vaped :(

I've tried it 3 separate times. The first of which was fun and only about level 1 or 2.

The second and third times were pretty freaky, and I experienced ego-death. Everybody laughs at me because the second time I used it I came to the shocking realization that I had been a shoe for my entire life. Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll do it again. I usually just end up having panic attacks and feeling like I'm am about to seize up. I personally never want to be a shoe again... but all of those times I did it I was smoking out of a bong. Point being that vaping it would probably be useless. lol

Ha ha, I appreciate all the concern everyone, but I have used salvia pretty regularly before. Its been almost two years now, but I've done it about 10 times and worked up to 20x potency.

mudstar: My main problem is that its illegal to have in my state (one of the eleven). As of such, I'm looking for a website to order it to a nearby legal state and have some friends ship it or drive it over to me.

toxicc: I have read previous threads on this site from experience users who say that it is more potent vaping, provided you use the right temperature (and don't stray from it). I have no first-hand experience with this, just wanted to try it for myself. I don't have a way to check my "DBV" though, so I was hoping someone knew the best notch to turn it on.

danalee48: Ha ha ha, a shoe? My first time I suddenly saw every thing in the room from a third-person point of view, all of a sudden everyone turned into the side of a submarine and my skin pores were floating around. Pretty weird the abstract thinking that goes on.

I used 60x potency a few years ago and it was one hell of an experience. I basically thought my friends had slipped me 10 hits of LSD, I was that fucked up from it. We smoked it out of a Greenstar bong with an ash catcher and sprinkled the Salvia on top of some bud. There was like 6 of us using it and it fucked everyone up so bad.. Each time it would begin to take effect on someone, you would just see them drop to the ground and then a few minutes later, start laughing uncontrollably.

I don't think vaping salvia will work unless your vaporizer can get really high temps. It does not reach the proper temps to fully activate all the chemicals. It requires about 240C in order to work.
And if your vape can get that high... expect the experience to be more potent than it will be if you smoke it. When you smoke it some of the chemicals are destroyed

I remember the first time I ever did salvia, 20x strength. I was sitting in front of the computer listening to music on Itunes and had the visualizer turned on. I thought it wasnt work until i realized I had thought that the visualizer was moving to the music and that it was doing it for only me. My mind could not comprehend it was a program designed to work with the music. needless to say I thought the experience was only 30 seconds long and it turned out it was actually 9 minutes.
