You should see inside this chineese vape. Crappy grade aluminum or the lightest steel ever. The threads dont screw in properly now that I've taken it apart due to poor milling. The glass element cracked instantly. I used finger tip grip only! Luckily I have a replacement. Ah...It's my fault. Buy cheap/Get cheap.

Don't feel too bad. You're not the only one to make a bad buy. I spent $80 on my first vape and didn't even get convection. I do thank you for exposing the guts of your vape and confirming my opinion that these Chinese companies use the cheapest possible parts and construction methods. The huge number of these vapes on the market in the last couple of years is the worst thing that's happened in the vape industry IMO. And it's quite possible that some vapes NOT made in China are just as bad. These 'no warranty' vapes either break down prematurely and sometimes sour the buyer on the whole vape idea, or keep working and possibly compromise the user's health.

I liked builing my own vape, and I think this protype may be a bust, but the parts are clean and good. Therefor...I'll scrap the wood, and keep the parts for a day when I have the proper space/tools to shape my masterpeice. Not a bad experiance at all. Just not a successful one.

If you learned something, you could consider it a successful step, if not a successful conclusion. Maybe one day some of us will be buying one one of your vapes. ;)

Very insightful max. I totally agree that rebuilding my vape was a great learning experiance for something really fun in the future. :cool:

I'll just stick to the reputable sales venues on line from now on. Like many of the popular brands we see mentioned over again. It's fun to experiment, but I don't have a vape now. :( After seeing all the nylon, plastic, and "coatings" (All of which I can't remove, or jepordize the functionality. Be that as it may.) I can rightfully use it. :disgust: I'm keeping the ceramic heating element, and the fuse. Thats it. The rest...including the mounting piece for the glass is garbage. Back to combusting for a few weeks. That was a very happy 3 weeks of vapeing, but I'll smoke bud. Better than vapeing toxins from China. Purple Days here I come. Then to the Genie. Or vise versa. Maybe its better to get what I can afford to avoid smoking too much longer. We'll see how much overtime I can get. :rolleyes:

I'll have to find new inventions to build for my new toys when I get them. I think MacGuyver is out for a bit. :p

I have just begun my journey into the realm of vapour.

My first effort at making a vapouriser was taking 2 cafe style sugar pourers, (glass body and stainless steel lid with a funnel straight down the middle). Then I added some stainless steel valves and teflon hoses connecting the two. Connected the hot air attachment on my soldering station to the top of the first pourer, herbs in a custom brass cone with steel screen sitting under the pourer spout. Then the air pushes through the top valve into the next pourer which I half filled with water to cool the 180C air, into the outlet valve through another hose into custom mouthpiece.
Good in theory... Only problem was there was too many air leaks out the side of the jars. So I didnt get as much as I wanted.

Today I started Mach II.
Hot air -> bleed 3 way solenoid (to allow it to heat up to 180C without touching the herbs) -> one way valve (ensure my vapour only travels the way I want it to.) -> Brass Y-shaped filter with custom mesh basket inside to keep my herbs. -> Condensor bulb (cooling) -> Vapour chamber (Enable me to view the vapour cloud.) -> Solenoid (Keep the vapour in the chamber till I'm ready for it.) -> Mouthpiece.

Not a bad days work. Turns out my hot air attachment on my Soldering Station is great at short distances but that amount of travel caused it to lose too much heat after the initial filtering components. (It is designed for removal of surface mount components so you don't realy want the heat to travel further than what you are pointing it at to stop wiping a whole board of components.) So now I am in the process of building a heating element and blower system. I have a few steam generators and boilers I have ripped off a few now defunct autoclaves at work so I should be able to put something together. It's a challenge to use only materials that aren't going to cause me cancer but I think in the end I'll be happier than trusting some manufacturer that could be using all sorts of plastics and other nasties that release toxins when they heat.

So for the interim I am using a reduced version of my main idea to get me by untill I get a custom heating system up and running.

Just bought a glass billy with a glass cone and stem today. Pack the cone use my heating set up and pull some tasty herbs.

I commend you on not setteling for a toxin riddled machine from China. I recently bought a vape on Ebay, and as you can read throughout the therad...my findings wern't good. It sounds like you are far more capable than myself for success in your endevours due to your more advanced knowledge on the subject. I wish you all the luck.

Myself...I'm currently into my third and what will no doubt be the longest session so far with my new Purple-Days. Ahhhh toxin free vape. After no vape for almost a month, and no bud for over a week. It's good to be back. :D

I see this kinda comment more and more on this site. It really puzzles me as how everyone is blaming the product and not themselves. There really isnt any excuse for not researching before you made your purchase. If you bought a 2nd hand car and it turned out to be a lemon who do you blame?

My posts in this thread have stated I admit to being foolish in my rash descion, and some even confided to admit they too had made the same mistake. There is no excuse for not researching a product, and I have regretted buying such a sub standard vaporizer more than anyone here knows.

My point to ProblemAntic was...Good for you trying to recycle your unusable misfortune instead of throwing it away like so many. Even the people that don't make mistakes can admit it is admirabale to try to understand the technology behind a vaporizer. Making your own vape has many rewards, and often the path begins with a simple mistake.

Everyone keep inventing and don't listen to the nay sayers out there. Some may say it is more important to be right, but I think it is more important to learn. I'm happy with my well researched Purple Days, and I know how it works because of my "lemon" :2c:

My first car was a uninformed buy of a 1976 pontiac firebird in horrible condition by an anxious 16 year old. Amazingly...with a little work I learned how cars actually worked, and with help of others I recreated the Smokey and the Bandit car with the fire bird hood. All because of a mistake. :)

That in my honest opinion would be wonderful.

The same people that complain about those vaporizers are the ones supporting them. Its a vicious cycle that needs to end.

Well I am an engineer so I always love to use and hold something I've made myself. Of course it almost always ends up costing you more money and time and effort, but the satisfaction of creating something that some douche bags are selling for $600 and works better is much more rewarding. Who the hell knows what you rinhaling other ways.

I do have a couple of brand new ceramic heating elements which I will play with, the electronics shouldn't be too difficult to deal with.

But I will need to find a good glass blower on my side of the planet (Australia.)...or i guess I could learn how to do that aswell.

Good to read the good vibes on this message board. Usually message boards are just full of people trying to flame each other and prove that they are right. Seems like the people here actually want to learn and teach each other what they know.

The more I look down the legal herb ways the more impressed I am. Can pick up 25 grams of Damiana for $5...which truly is a blissful herb. Compared to an ounce of weed probably around $250-$300?
Going to try as many different strains as possible to see what everything does.

Also I am interested in getting some caffeine related material instead of having a coffee in the morning, ill vape one instead. Does anyone know any herbs which can be vaped which are caffeine related? I'm not sure if you can vape guarana or Yerba mat. Not sure with what releases its active ingredients through vapour and what needs to be consumed in a tea or whatnot

Congrats on the 'build my own' attitude.

Always gonna cost more (time is money), but now you are sure what went into it. Check with ClearDome in his glass thread he has some experience in the 'build my own' glass department.

you can vape coffee, tea, and yerba

tea would be my favorite cause it doesnt have all the oils and shit like coffee does
