Not really man. If you are useing duff...you need at least an hlf oz IMO for one batch of brownies. Even then...they still won't be that strong. I actually have almost my first oz of duff, and I plan to try vtac's method for brownies this weekend. I have put a good metod in this thread for making butter out of fresh MJ, but it won't work so well for duff. I think oil will work better for duff. Oil is a better absorber (whatever the right word may be) of THC, so if the herb is almost spent already...then you may want to use a method that will extract as much of the goodness as you can.

Or make one brownie about 3x3 inches big. Use a soufle cup, but the measurements can be tricky. I've f@#ked up many of tests this way. 1 sucess out of 3, and I use to be a sou chef. Baking was never my strong suite in the cullinary world anyways. Obviously if you have a quarter oz of duff you can quarter the recipe and make the brownie in a soufle cup. Still cook the oil the same length though.

DD

All based on how spent your duff is. A lot of factors go into that question. If it is still yellowish green like vtacs, then a half oz is good. Then again if your are a larger person with slow metabolism, then you'll need to go with the whole oz even if it's yellowish-green. Vtac has stated he has not as a hardcore core tolorance as some of us. There are many factors, but a 1/2 oz of duff may work for a skinny, low tolerance person that doesn't get their spent MJ too close to combustion. :2c:

Thanks DD, just found your reply today.:/ i did try to use a scaled down measurement. it worked reasonably well and got me faded. i am not a very big persona nd have a high metabolism. also my tolerance for edibles is nothing really. ive only tried cooking a few times and those were experiments. my tolerance for vaping on the other hand is substantially higher. im going to wait a little while and try it again on a larger scale.

ive not had luck with cooking but I am certain I have made a fundamental mistake and this brings me to my reply. Be sure to not to over cook and if you see steam your likely cooking off the good stuff.

I wish you better luck than i had but im sure I over cooked mine.

If you're making butter as per this thread's topic you shouldn't have to worry about over cooking. Water boils at 100C, much lower than THC. :ko:

totaly right , it is almost impossible to over heat oil or cannabutter when there is still water in your mix

hmmm lately ive been getting the itch to prepare something, the methods of preparation which i can use are limited, and i only really want to cook up one dose, so im thinking just microwaving it in some cooking oil and drinking it straight, it seems like that would work pretty well as long as i used a minimal amount of oil and drank it on an empty stomach

other recipe that interests me is the leary biscuit, seems as though it would be less efficient though, and requires a bit more fuss, with the oil recipe, i can microwave it and within 30 secs have it cooled and drank, then wash out the container

either way, im planning it this saturday, and im abstaining all week before hand just for the hell of it ;)

Drinking cooking oil laced with buds doesnt sound like much fun at all but if it works for you then run with it. I think you are gonna need a little more than 30 seconds of cooking time for the THC to infuse with the oil. The cannabutter recipe that I follow says to cook for at least 3 hours on a very low heat. I guess you can report back and tell us if your experiment was a success. Good luck!

i have found microwave recipes for leary biscuits and firecrackers that called for around 20-30 secs in the microwave and they were reported successful

for a small amount of oil (just enough to cover the bud twice), 30 secs in a high power microwave will get it quite hot, and if necessary, ill let it cool and give it another nuking to decarboxylize
and im thinking sesame oil, thats what they use for marinol, there must be some reason for that (plus its tasty), and i happen to have plenty of it

for this experiment, stealth is the key, it will most likely take place with my parents in the house, so a quick cooking time is of the utmost importance
if i remember, ill keep a log

ok nm i just tossed some sesame oil in the microwave for 2 minutes and the oil barely got warm :o , so i think our microwave is broken, this experiment will have to take place at a later date :uhoh:

how much vaporized weed is needed for a mild/functional butter (by functional, i mean allows me to still function lol)
also i haver herd that it take 1500LBS of weed in 15 min or 250,000 pot brownies to be lethal, this is in reguard to a topic farther back in the discussion.

If you don't know your own tolerance, how would we? :p Strength will also depend on the state of your abv which we don't know.

Experiment, and start small when consuming.

I heard that if you eat exactly 420 grams of weed you turn into an orange. :uhoh::D

This thread needs some love. Hope you don't mind some ABV butter, CD. :D

42g ABV
453g (1lb) butter
214g yield (i was sloppy )

My metabolism for edibles is pretty ridiculous... 5g of this stuff is pretty intense for me, half that is a little more relaxed. Very narcotic sedative buzz. Taste isn't the best, but not unbearable on or in food.

I can attest to clear_dome's warning about eating too much. I made some killer brownies, and a friend and I each ate three, which was about two too many. We went to see a Bob Dylan & Paul Simon concert and hell, I don't even know what they played. I was sitting down practically the whole time too stoned to care.

Thank you Clear_Dome for this recipe. I made some cannabutter a couple days ago that using a similar process. The main difference is I simmered it on as low as heat as possible for about 20 or 22 hours. I found so much conflicting information about how long to let it go for, I figured the long simmer couldn't hurt to try.
I started with 1 oz. of finely ground (in a coffee grinder to a powder) afghan trimmings (including sun leaves) and 1/4 lb. of butter. After the long simmer, the butter reduced by about half. After the reduction, I have about the same ratio of cannabis to butter as Clear_Dome mentioned in his recipe (1 oz. cannabis to 2 oz. butter). I didn't expect this much reduction, but I figured the stronger the better.
I put a little bit on a slice of toast (I don't know exactly how much, but less than most people would use if putting regular butter on toast). Long story short, I was incredibly high four over 6 hours, and a little high for a few hours after that. I was hoping to achieve a nice relaxing high all day, and instead I was so high, I couldn't do anything except for lay down. This was the highest I have ever been for the longest duration of time. It was way to much for me to handle. I think the only way to use this budder I made is by cutting is with regular butter in a recipe.
I am not trying to second-guess your ratio Clear_Dome, but has anyone else used this ratio of 1:2 for cannabis and butter respectively? It just seems to strong to me.
It also may be possible that the 20 hour, or so, simmer allowed for a better thc extraction; and made the butter much stronger. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried simmering for a short amount of time (1 - 3 hours), and for a long time (20-24 hours) as well?

Nuphile,
what % of complete extraction rates 4 various methods ?
freezer 95%everclear few days do u get like 80 to 90% of everyting like 22 hr butter ghee low simmer prolly gets? :p

How do you measure extraction rates?
Also, I didn't use butter ghee; I used Challenge brand unsalted butter.

I really want cookies for Thanksgiving and currently have about 32g of ABV. I love the Betty Crocker cookies that require 1 stick of butter. I am going to use my Rival Crock Pot aka slow-cooker. Has anyone used this method?

I can't decide if I want to use the 1lb (4 sticks) of butter or just 3 sticks.

My Butter Method
dvci0023a.jpg

0.5 oz ABV
dvci0030a.jpg

Pack it in a tea filter bag
dvci0034.jpg

I use two 0.5 oz packs
dvci0035.jpg

dvci0038.jpg

Wrap both packages together in gauze bandage...
dvci0039a.jpg

into one tight pack...
dvci0040a.jpg

and put it in a preserving jar (or in this case a simple jam glass)
dvci0041e.jpg

Now we need 0.5 pound of butter
dvci0042.jpg
While the water boils put the butter on top of the ABV
dvci0043.jpg

After the water starts boiling the stove is lowered from 3 to 2
dvci0044.jpg

and the glass placed in the middle
dvci0045.jpg

The water boiler is for refilling the evaporated water and the egg timer functions as a reminder
dvci0044.jpg

Now we play the waiting game...
dvci0047.jpg

From time to time open the glass...
dvci0053.jpg

and press down the ABV package
dvci0060.jpg

After 5 to 6 hours filter the butter into a container; press the ABV package through a coffee-filter (Caution HOT)
dvci0061.jpg

After one night in the fridge
