no tubing on an SSV whip, especially being at the end of that long wand with the thick glass, is going to get exposed to enough heat to off gass anything. By the time the vapor gets to the tubing, the temp has dropped a lot.

BPA does leaches out from plastic water bottles into the water, and they are not heated. And i'm pretty sure that vinyl contains BPA.

"Pretty sure" does not equate to a fact. If you can show it does contain BPA then its valid otherwise its cautionary advice to look into further but I would not just blindly accept that all vinyl tubing has BPA. I seen a thing on that a few years ago and industry was switching them out in things like medical devices and the like with vinyl tubing that does not contain BPA. Now I am going on recollection, so take that with a big grain of salt but that is what I recall.

Same as me, the vinyl part was a recollection hehe. So we'll both take our comments as a grain of salt :uhoh:

There are different classes of plastics. Seven different kinds could be used for plastic containers, and of type # 7, only some use bisphenol A, like polycarbonate (the really hard plastic) and epoxy resins. Types 1,2,4,5,and 6 are safe from BPA. So a blanket statement like "BPA does leaches out from plastic water bottles into the water" is a generalization and certainly not true of all containers. As for tubing, if you're concerned, do your research.

Unit just got here, and it's burnin off its oils outside.

First impressions: It's much smaller than I thought! Kind of cute.

The silicone I got from Mcmasters is NOT going to fit, so i've removed the link I posted initially.

I guess i'm a vinyl guy for today, but I won't give up in my search for a good silicone tube.

I'll let you know how it works and what my impressions are in a bit.

****

Alright, so i'm impressed with the unit. After some testing I can say that the vinyl isn't getting past 200 F temperature since my hand isn't even getting that warm on the wand. I have the 'off' setting around 7 - 8 o clock and was using it around 1 - 3 which seems pretty sweet.

Like I mentioned above it is much more petite than I expected.

I have to give a shoutout to theotherside ebay for sending the unit as it was shown and even throwing in some extras to make the experience easier (extra mouthpiece and tube for guests, I don't believe in swapping spit with folks).

As for functionality, I can say that an ice-chamber doesn't seem necessary as the temperature isn't much higher than room temp as far as I can tell. There is some slight concern about particulates coming through the vinyl since the screen moves a bit when the poker is applied. It came with a nice manual and the bag is sweet. I hope 7th floor continues to supply the bag free even though their new website doesn't mention the bag anymore. I used about 1/2 to 3/4 amount of material to get it started and getting a strong effect, so that I had to stop for a bit before proceeding. Very different sensation... like others have mentioned, more 'cerebral' than i'm used to.

Cheers,

When I had my vapir I had to register on the site somewhere to activate my warranty or whatever, is that the same with the ssv? If so how do I do this? I've checked the site but I dont see anything

yeah i've noticed that as well. I make it a point to never let the stir stick touch the screen when i'm using it. In fact i try to pack bowls loose enough that, after a couple hits, i can just gently break things up a bit with the stick, and then just shake the bowl around (in a very specific, careful way) a bit between hits instead of stirring it. This eliminates the chances of the screen getting moved around and stuff getting past it.

How i do it is hold the bowl upright but at a slight angle (about the same angle as SSV itself) with one hand, and drum 2 fingers really fast and firmly, :brow:, with the other hand on the bottom side of the bowl (that is, the side of the bowl facing the floor, if you're holding it at a slight angle). This seems to really mix the bowl up well without any ever flying out the top. It might be hard or weird for other ppl to do, but for me, as a guitarist who plays a lot of death metal and an experience launchbox user, shaking it up this way instead of stirring works just as well as actually stirring, only my whips dont get coated with abv powder.

I've mentioned the idea before, but if someone were to make teflon caps or plugs or something for the bowls, it would be really convenient because you could just shake like a launch box between hits instead of stirring, and you could set partially cooked bowls down and come back to them later without worrying about them spilling.

Regarding the particulates, I think some are just coming through the screen regardless of it being jostled, as there is fine dust in the wand as well. Since I turned to vaping for health and purity reasons, I must revise my previous review and mention that a small ice/water chamber is best for the SSV for reducing the amount of inhaled particulates.

For this purpose I took a mini zong water-device (approx 1' tall), filled it with ice water and stuck the vinyl tubing into the downstem. I can already see build up of materials in the water.

This type of setup has the added benefit of making the whole setup look pretty high tech. Much like a science experiment or a mighty wizards lab.

Looking to buy a new custom wand as a little present to myself but the new SSV website doesn't list any it seems. Can find the custom ice-chambers and mouthpieces etc but no wands apart from the standard choices.

Hopefully they're just making up a load of new ones or something, but can anyone recommend another site to get a custom wand or are 7th floor the best considering it's their own product?

I think theothersidedotnet (or something like that) has a few listed on Ebay.
And I believe they are an authorized reseller.

Having done business with Taylor from TOS, I recommend him for your needs. However, what you see is what you get so the ability to customize it to your personal needs is missing.

That said, I'd deal with TOS anyday before 7th floor, just because of their past service issues, sketchy website that was recently hacked (google reported malware from there and the DBV site), and reported lack of communication to others on this forum.

To their credit, however, their products are solid and awesome.

Thanks for the link, shame there's only one available though, and it's one that the seller seems to have bought from 7th floor himself.

This mouthpiece he has for sale is pretty bloody sweet however: http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-SSV-D...ultDomain_0&hash=item414f880f6d#ht_1351wt_911

With the more complex shaped mouthpieces and wands, does cleaning for wand-hash become an issue at all? I can usually just scrape the vast majority of mine straight out of the wand, but is it harder to see/reach depending on the colour/shape of the wand/mouthpiece?

Think I'll shoot 7th floor an email and see if they have new glass in the pipelines.

Not sure man, I prefer to clean after use rather than keep the tubing/glass dirty which could promote the growth of mold and bacteria which you would then be inhaling.

Blemished Silver Surfer's on ebay for $180/$190 (colors)
Blemished Da Buddha Vapes for $130

does anyone know how bad they look? (I read their note, it says, "Blemish could include scratched tube or baseplate, or cracked knob." Seems kind of open-ended, but for that kind of price difference i could forgive a lot.

sorry if this belongs someplace else

Ok so i have a bit of a tip for fellow mini-wand users out there who are goin for minimally-sized yet effective bowl loads. I drew up this quick sketch to show what im talking about, since taking a picture while doing it just wasnt turning out well due to my lack of a third hand:

100_3182.jpg

What you do is take a wire coat hanger (the thicker the better really, as long as it fit in that narrow bottom hole of the wand) and cut the bottom so you have a straight long piece of it.

Then stick it up the bottom of the wand and push up on the very center of the bottom of the screen gently until the screen bubbles up. Before you do this, make sure the end you are pushing the screen with doesnt have a sharp edge, if it does file it down or find something else to use for this, otherwise you might fuck your screen up.

Then take something with a flat end, something thats as wide as you can fit in the bowl, and gently and slightly push the upwards bubble until it's somewhat flattened.

Then take the coat hanger and go along the outside edges of the screen (where black arrows are) and try pushing them up so that there are no gaps between the glass and the edges of the screen for the herb to get into. The red arrows show the areas where the gaps i'm talking about would be.

After doing this i've found that i can load even smaller bowls into the miniwand and still get good hits. This is because the herb isnt sitting down in that dip and collecting around that rim that the screen sit in, it all sits in the skinny part above the screen now. I dumped out the bowl that i vaped in it today after doing this and you can see it in the picture (its only partially vaped in that picture, hadnt really lost any mass yet), its about as big as a log vape stem load. It vaped well and provided more satisfying hits than i thought, and it seemed like less got past the screen, which i've had problems with using these mini wands. Give it a try, but dont blame me if you're reckless and mess your screen up :p

I would think the blemish is minor, but only they know for sure. The DBV doesn't come with the case either, as it does when at full price. Since you can get a new one on eBay, with a case, for only $10 more, the 'blemished price' isn't really that good.

Yeah good point. It really seems like a trend in the vaporizer industry to make upcoming product promises and then break them. My question is why bother even mention them.

Lets see, 7th floor said they were coming out with new models, Supreme Vape was too, Arizer was supposed to release a portable the Zephyr Ion vanishing whip trick, and Volcano makers were even supposed to release a new model a while ago.. Not too mention vaporizers like the Oracle which showed us a tease and then just vanished, why bother building up hype if the product isn't really in final stages. The only one that has kept us updated is VapeXhale's Cloud.

I hope I'm posting in the right place here. If not, I apologize in advance. I recently purchased a black da buddha vaporizer from 1percent. Initially I put some mid grade herb into it with great results. I found if I set the knob at about 2 o'clock I get about 5 to 6 good hits. I recently took it over to a friends house and we put some orange krush in it. We got absolutely no vapor from it and ended up switching over to a bong. I'm wondering what is going wrong here as this is better grade stuff, it should work better.

Also, I'm noticing the knob on my buddha turns smoothly until it gets to about 1 o'clock, then I feel a little more resistance. I'm wondering if this is normal. Another thing I'm noticing is the heating element isn't dead center of the glass housing that's around it. It doesn't touch the glass but it's not centered in there either. Not sure if I'm being a bit anal or if this is normal.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

That may just be a case of different herbs vaping at different temps.

Did you you turn it up any higher than you normally do to see if you could get any vapor? Im sure that you could have burned the kush with the temps that your DBV gets up to.

But back on track, I think this thread is more for 7th Floor reps (that seem to be MIA currently)

both totally normal.

my DBV knob did the exact same thing. turns out right when the knob starts to feel tighter is right about where the sweet spot is on mine. after trying multiple strains im getting very steady results.

i have since adjusted the position of the dial so that it reads high noon for that sweet spot.

PerseusStoned..it will work exactly the same, I believe they are the same, they are pretty much universal anyways, just make sure to get the right Ground Glass Joint Size for your pipe.
