Does anyone have the new 'Spherical Ground Glass' HCs/Wands? Currently this appears to be (not) handsfree, BUT gives you the best of a GG connection with the ability to rotate your wand while hitting.

Wow, so many new options to play with! (And Im still waiting to pull the trigger on mine!)

And note to vendors - do you currently carry these? (Yet)

Yeah, I've been waiting to see opinions on the SGG. Since I just got a new bong to attach to mine, I think I might just get the GG since the hands free would make it easier but still want to try this SGG.

I dont really have any intentions of hitting mine through the bong. I have a little HVY mini that comes out every now and then, and I even have a Supreme. Guess what my favorite way of hitting it is... (Yup, the whip) :p

I think Im leaning towards the classic setup. If I decide later on that a GG connection is for me - Ill get a DBV too :brow:

Ahhh man... I just started going through the bong and it made me fall in love with my ssv again. You could just save the money from getting a DBV and just get an extra GG HC/wand set. They really aren't that much money and can't hurt to have both to choose from :D

How deep should the screen be in the gg whip? Should it be domed up?:ko:
*doesnt own GG SSV whip* I can't say for sure, but if its like the DBV wands (i think it is), it should sit along the bottom of the GG. I think dipping it down is better so stuff sits in the middle instead of being pushed to the edges where it might not get vaped as well, but dont make it dip any more than it has to so that it stays tight around the edges. I put my screens in so that they're bubble up at first tho, and then use the marble end of the pick (or rounded end of a pen) to push it in so it dips down a little bit. its just easier to do it this way for some reason, it makes the screen sit in there better than if you were to try to put it in dip-down right off the bat. hope this helps.

I just noticed something on my SSV, the ceramic heater does not turn on all the way. I don't get fat hits, my vape doesn't have the capacity to burn weed (not that I'd want to but I hear that you should be capable), and today I noticed that when the rest of the heating element is orange the very top 1 or 2 centimeters does not turn on/heat up. Not all of them are like this, right? What would you guys recommend doing??

on my DBV (same heater) when its set to my sweet spot the element itself is white on top for about a CM and then starts to get pink then orange.

if you turn your SSV up full blast the entire element should get orange, but you will def be at the combustion temp by then.

Yeah it shouldnt be glowing solid orange at vaping temps, should be partially white. Some that i've seen barely glow at all at vaping temps in fact. But as 2clicker said, full-blast it should glow pretty much solid orange, and should def be able to burn herb.

Well mine can not go all the way orange, what would you recommend I do? I feel like I'm not getting the full use out of my herbs and it definitely can not burn it.

How long have you had the unit? This might be something you need to discuss with 7th Floor. (I would)

The heater covers are _not_ the same between the two (SSV - DBV). The angles & heights of the heater covers' elbows are different between the two units.

I know because when I broke my DBV cover and went looking for a replacement, the shop only had SSV specific covers, none for DBV. I tried putting an SSV heater cover on my DBV and there was NO WAY it would ever work - too tall, didn't line up with the opening, and angle was way off.

Looks like 7th floor is updating the SSV site...

What sort of improvements are we looking at?

Also - has the DBV site been investigating the reported attack? I know that a couple of FCers have mentioned making contact (with someone) about this issue but have heard nothing.

Hello all, this is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while. It was actually this thread that convinced me to get the SSV instead of the Extreme-Q. I liked the simplicity of the design, very elegant and analog. Look, I love computers and digital displays and stuff, but the experience of consuming herb should have a classic vibe, I think. A nice glass bong or a glass pipe gave me that feel. The Silver Surfer does too.

I had VapeWorld replace the GG hands free with the standard wand, and I'm glad I did. I love holding the wand in my right hand, the bong in my left, the tube connecting them like a twirly straw, and kinda dancing the wand around the glass cover to get a good hit. It's like an art, and the whole experience is like art fused with a 1600s chemistry (or alchemy) lab experiment.

I got my SSV (custom burgandy) about a week ago, and that was the first vape hit I ever took. I couldn't believe it. I was laughing to myself at how cool it was. I told my friend it was a like a ghost was getting me high. I couldn't see or barely feel anything during like, a 30 second draw with a nice deep inhale at the end. Then I exhaled and there was this huge vapor cloud. I was like, how the hell did that get there?!! And it barely even smelled like MJ. Great for me 'cause I live in an apartment.

It was like getting high off fog or something. Weird and also awesome. I couldn't believe how good my lungs felt. I do a lot of work with the breath and breathing, and it was obvious that my lungs were wide open and my diaphragm was completely relaxed. It felt great. You get that effect with combustion (great site name, btw ) but unfortunately it's kinda offset by all the smoke and coughing. With this, though...man I am completely sold on vaping, and very glad I got the SSV.

OK, so one thing I noticed is that when I would hold up a wand filled with ground bud to the glass cover and then start to draw, little pieces of bud went swirling around inside the wand. I was worried it would blow into the hole, maybe touch the heating element and cause a problem. Since I didn't want any plant material to get inside the glass cover, I started packing the wand tighter. Of course, this wasn't good for vaping. I went back to fluffing and stirring, and just decided not to worry about it. But it still bugged me a little, until I found an easy solution by accident: Start drawing air over the herb before you seal the mouth of the wand to the glass heating cover, and the herb will stay put.

In fact, for as long as you keep drawing, you can even tilt the wand at more of a downwards angle relative to the glass heating cover and not worry about the herb falling. Your air flow is pinning the herb to the screen.

Great forum, ppl here seems very chill and civil but also very knowledgable. I'm glad I found this place before I made my first vape purchase.

The vinyl scent/taste I have read about in the stock tubing is likely due to plasticizers that are then inhaled.. not to mention that the vinyl may not be able to withstand common temps. used for vaporization. Seems like since most folks go this route for purity and health benefits, it would make sense for 7th floor to ditch the questionable plastics.
This is a taste issue only. The food grade tubing used by 7th Floor and other vape makers is perfectly safe for vaping.

The 'Silcon' brand sold at USPlastic.com is much, much cheaper. Temp range is up to 500 F.

Yeah, Ive seen ToS Ebay page and he has some pretty cool stuff there.
Personally, I like my normal vendor and plan to get my SSV from them (once the Mind Eraser comes in)

Strange though - AdamSSV stated in the 7th Floor thread that they were not going to be producing this model anymore. One of our FC vendors said they have a shipment of them in the coming weeks. :|?

Guess Ill wait and see

Cool stuff, and welcome Soulsurfer and Vayu!

@ vayu Love the rasta ssv, but i dont think i'd like to own a SSV with pot leaf on it, because i like the fact that 98% of the ppl that see mine have no idea what it's for.

@ soulsurfer - how full do you fill your wand? I've heard other ppl say they have problems with bits swirling around in the bow during their hits, and i think i've seen it once or twice, but very rarely. I normally never pack mine more than 1/4 full.

Yeah... the rasta has like 0 stealth rating compared to traditional units. However, something about it just makes me laugh. It's just got that bright, bulbous, watermelon colored "in your face' vibe.

I'm not totally convinced about the vinyl. If its affecting the smell and taste of the unit that implies some type of chemical off-gassing. It is also true that plasticizers are often used on vinyl to soften it up, and can leave a residue which might be what people are tasting. In any case, it seems most people have no issues from it. for my part i'll be using the silicone.
Well, silicone has a higher temp rating than food grade tubing, but the plain fact of the matter is that no tubing on an SSV whip, especially being at the end of that long wand with the thick glass, is going to get exposed to enough heat to off gass anything. By the time the vapor gets to the tubing, the temp has dropped a lot. A lot of people really overestimate the temps involved with vapor, especially how fast it drops. Use a meat thermometer over a stove burner on medium and check the temp at the burner and then 6-8" above. And with a burner you're getting a lot more ambient heat than you would with a vape.

Yes, but there is still likely residue on new units, which is why it is advisable to clean the whip (regardless of whether it is vinyl, silicone, etc.) prior to use.

Hi steiner, thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, I don't go past 1/4 full when packing. I think maybe the swirling bits has to do with the sharpstone grinder I use; it gives my herb the consistency of sawdust, and those tiny pieces seem to get airborne easily. I'm glad there was an easy solution. Pass it on if you hear any other ppl with the same problem.

yeah i've definitely noticed that the finer the grind the more likely it is to achieve liftoff lol. I used to grind in a 2 piece and it would grind a lot finer than my vapeworld 4 piece that i use these days. I stick the the grain of rice sized chunks these days. you dont get those instant, thick thick hits, but you get more. Plus like i said it doesnt blow around as easily. I use a tool with a flat metal end on it to stir the bowl good between hits, and as the herb gets dried out from vaping, just stirring it with that breaks it up into powder.

i've also noticed that its easier to have herb blown out the bowl if you're using a waterpiece with it. Tilting the tube/bub or pulling/inserting the adapter at certain times causes some to blow out. I found this to be a major issue with the dbv, which is a huge reason why i switched to ssv, where its almost never bad enough to actually get in the heatercover hole.

 that bowl just kicked in
