Discontinued Pax Vaporizer by Ploom

Concerning the particulates getting into the mouthpiece, I have not experienced that yet, but then I've only had my Pax for a couple weeks so far. I wonder if it might help to put a small bit of cotton underneath the screen. I've also thought of this in terms of making the oven smaller if you want a smaller load since this thing definitely works better when the oven is full. Seems a bit of cotton might help to both filter a bit better any escaping particulates while also allowing the user to utilize less herbs for a full load. Bear in mind, I have not tried this, but I have heard others use cotton in other vapes for similar problems.

Thoughts?

i also noticed the finish was different :( its less slippery wich is great i dont wana drop this thing, but the fact that this thing is made from a solid piece of aluminum, covering its finish and seamless weld is just not doing its justice. it made it less sleek, more ninja, more grip. being a first time owner of the purple one, every time i have sunglasses on it trips me out when i take them off and notice my pax is pure black.

Xchadb,
I went to the LSU game last night and took a couple of pics.

I try not to open my oven when its hot for that exact reason, the escaping vapor. I would rather make good use of that and pull it through the mouthpiece. I assume this only happens when you are done with a session and are gonna empty the load? If so, just take a few puffs once its turned off to cool the oven down below vaping temps.
Always before I open my oven I put my mouth around the bottom of the Pax and suck all the remaining through the lid. It works perfectly and no vapor gets wasted. :smug:

I kind of do the same from the mouthpiece end when I finish a session. I close the mouthpiece then slowly draw any remaining vapor thru the closed mouthpiece (I put my mouth over the entire mouthpiece end).

Maybe a small wad of cotton half way up the vapor tube away from the heat? I might just give that a try.

I "do" mine from the mouthpiece end, but do not engulf the entire end of the pax...
I kind of tighten my mouth and purse my lips "small" and grab a few rapid sips from the now inserted mouthpiece end.
I think we lighten our maintenance duties with this move~

I would think more along the lines of a small piece of cotton inserted into the mouth piece tube all the way up by the draw hole.
I'd be afraid it might get jammed up in there when I close the mouthpiece. At least in the vapor tube I can push it clear thru.

I would not stuff anything in the air tube, it will most likely clog it up, or restrict the draw even further, but do what you want. :2c:

If your guys' sessions are anything like mine, that tiny bit we're talking about is less than 1% of the total vape... I mean how desperate are you???

I do it too :D

Hello all,
I'm a new member but have been lurking for awhile. I have also been vaping for a while, first with e-cigs to kick the smoking habit, and now with portable vapes for the most part of the year. I started with the MFLB, and now own a PAX for about a month.

I've been reading this thread for some time now, and have gotten some very useful tips but I haven't yet seen mention of a couple of questions I have. I apologize if this has already been discussed and I missed it.

I've noticed that the screen in my PAX does not sit completly flat in the bottom of the oven. It appears slightly too long, causing it to curl up a bit at the ends. Should I trim it gently with a file until it sits flush to the bottom of the oven but still fitting snugly?

Also, and this is a bigger concern for me. Today I decided to give my mouthpiece a 15 min ISO soak and I noticed quite a few large pieces of ABV that made it's way up into the mouthpiece (and possibly into my lungs!) had come out in the ISO. I poured the ISO into a saucer to make it easier to see:

Have other PAX users experienced this? I have a feeling it might be related to the screen not sitting flush at the bottom of the oven.

I hope I can correct this or it is a deal breaker for me. I have emphysema and cannot take the chance of this getting into my lungs.

I'll be using my MFLB until I figure this out. Too bad, the PAX really fits my usage better than the MFLB.

Hopefully someone can help,
NOMAD
Same basic underlying disease. Yes, it gets into the lungs with some devices. Cough etc... But I think I'd know if I did get herb into my lungs. I have experienced that, first with the old bat-style 1-hitter I used to spark up, and now with the Solo without screen. Anyhow, consider buying another Pax screen or 2. I do not get anything in my lungs from my Pax I am pretty certain. Except large hits for a considerable period of time. I am using the screen that came with it. I should order another screen to have it prophyylactically for when my Pax screen dies or gets lost. But I have other devices to fill in gaps and I have not ordered spare screens, without which the Pax is no longer functional. Sort of like a Solo glass stem - you have to have an extra or 2... I am not a fan of the MFLB which I do own and have at long last even figured out how to use, but the Pax is heads and tails and in every respect excepting probably sheer conservation of herb, above the LB. I feel it stomps the LB into the ground. I currently personally prefer the Solo through water/glass over the Pax. Look at the Solo thread on this site. Read it while waiting for your new screens to arrive. A lot of people love the Pax and yours is I believe the first post on Pax possibly letting herb get into lungs potentially. Good luck in resolving your conflict.

The Vape Tool Mini Tool should be sold with the Pax it's so perfect for it.

And don't forget to use a thick rubber band along with the tool for convieneint storage that doubles as a oven lid locker!! (and turn your pax into a ninja turtle too lol)

Cool JD. I've been searching for the right rubber band, found some rubber band clamps, but wondered where you got that band, looks like a perfect fit.

So do I, and it has absolutely nothing to do with being desperate and everything to do with clearing out any vapour that might condense someplace where it will cause trouble.

Unless you do the same thing nomad and I did (soak the mouthpiece in ISO for a few minutes) you shouldn't be certain nothing is getting through. The Pax results in darker, more easily crumbled ABV that yields more fine particulate, particularly if you use the high temperature setting a lot. I'd bet a lot of money that your mouthpiece has fine particles in it just like ours.

Stating that the Pax is head and tails above the LB in every respect except conservation is your opinion and you should not present it as fact. Perhaps you haven't read the list I posted in the Pax vs LB comparison thread. Most of the points in that list are fact not opinion. For example, it is a fact that the LB costs about half the price of the Pax. It is a fact that the LB warms up in 3-5 seconds compared to 30-90 for the Pax. Etc.

Yeah.. F* Combustion..
For a tool, I broke apart a clothespin, and then sharpened then end where you normally clamp down on it, the narrower flat side, then I flattened the other side. I like this tool because if I lose it, then I have another half to use, and it is dirt cheap to make another. I will post pictures later today if I remember.

Heat...use a hair blower if you don't have one use your hands, under your arm whatever.

This worked perfectly thank you
Just kept it in my hands then the car heater and just added a little extra pressure downward and shazam! It popped up saving the night
I feel extremely stupid for asking this but is it alright to submerge the mouthpiece in water rather than iso?
Also with this recent concern with particles in the mouthpiece would a simple Cotton ball on top of the mouthpiece of sorts be a simple, however inconvenient, fix?

Higher, Higher, Baby...
Here is an update for my purple light/temp light issue.

This weekend I cleaned my PAX thoroughly, and even so I noticed that this problem does not go away. I mean there is not much more i can do.

I dip the MP in ISO.
I use the dental brush around the edges of the vapor tube.
I use the pipe cleaner around the edges of the vapor tube.
I use the alcohol wipes inside the MP (use the pipe cleaner to wipe inside it)
I use the pipe cleaner inside the MP.

All I did was get annoyed after a 45 minute cleaning.

I did figure out over the past week, a 99% effective way of bypassing this problem altogether.
What I do now is I click open my Pax, immediately take off the MP (because I see the temp light and it pisses me off) and then blow into the MP for 3-5 seconds. (After that it goes right to purple when i click it back off/on.)

Still no resolution but thats the best I got.

Got my replacement Pax this weekend and noticed 2 differences vs. my first one.
This new one seems to heat up a lot quicker than my first, I never actually timed my first one but this one is noticeably faster at getting hot and turning green.
Also the draw on this one is MUCH better than my first, this one feels like I am hitting a nice loose joint, which is perfect IMO (verses my first one which felt like I was sucking a thick milkshake through a straw)

So glad to have the Pax back, I missed it so much the 2 weeks it was away.

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
It looks like a Broccoli band (rubber band to hold the broccoli)from the supermarket produce section.
They used to all be blue, but my store uses yellow.

Good eye mister, you might be correct...veggie bands.
