Once again, took 3 of my portables with me over night, to go out to see live music, then spent the night at a friends house. I mostly used the Pax the entire time. I used the Solo once while I had the Pax charging, even though it was only on a med. battery level, I decided to top off before we went out that night. Needless to say, Pax made for a great, discrete, portable that kept me lit all evening, with no issues. I had hoped one of my smoking buddies was going to show up, I was hoping to show him the different portables. Next time maybe.

so is the PAX the type of vape that you could start a session, take a few pulls and stop... then start again later with same load and not lose taste or meds while not in use? the way i read it, and i may be interpreting it wrong, is that the oven will continue to hold the heat and cook the meds in between sessions a bit therefore losing meds and taste while not in use. please correct me if i am wrong in this assumption

Yes, you can take a few pulls and be on your way; being conduction, there is some cooking that continues in the oven, but that is why I draw on the unit for a bit after shutting off, to clear and quick cool the oven.

If you turn it off between sessions, the oven cools down fairly quickly. Any loss is pretty small. The references to the oven cooking continuously are about the way the Pax works when it is turned on.

If you hit it a few times and put it down to hit later, then after about 30 seconds of being motionless the Pax drops into standby mode, which is 150°C (302°F). If it remains motionless for another minute, it shuts off. The oven does heat constantly whenever the Pax is turned on, and because it is a conduction device, that means it is always cooking its load. You are losing flavour and some components all the time whether you are hitting it or not. The standby temperature is still high enough to vapourize the terpenoids responsible for flavour. Even when it the LED is purple (heating up) the Pax is hot enough to vapourize some components most of the time.

Does that explanation help?

Can someone help me figure out how to get the spring out without buying a special brush? My mouth piece is not getting recognized by the pax body and is not heating up. If i set it to low, and put the mouthpieceback in, it will go purple then stay yellow and not heat up unless i push the mouthpiecedown or to the left.
thanks

I'm not sure you need to get the spring out. In my experience, the spring doesn't get dirty, and even if it does I don't believe it causes the problem. The culprit is the little catch mechanism that also acts as a switch. If you look directly into the hole containing the spring, you can see this part by looking into the hole at the area right next to the temperature control button. Get something to clean that and you will probably be okay. Those little dental brushes seem to be a popular choice. I used a pipe cleaner that I dipped in ISO and then squeezed almost dry. You don't want to risk dripping ISO into that mouthpiece chamber.

I use mine this way a lot of the time. I keep in on the lowest setting for this, you can take a hit or two and turn it off, keep drawing to get the last of the vapor and cool the oven faster, after you press in the mouthpiece. A fully packed load on LOW will go a long way, after you stop getting much vapor, give it a stir, and keep on trucking. Once it gets low on vapor after the first stir, I will set it to MED, stir again, and keep going. Only when the MED setting starts to taste "done" will I put it on high to finish it out. That is the least tasty, but will get some of the higher temp canabanoids.

Hey everyone,

Big post for me - first post to FC! I literally combed through every single page of this thread, so I wanted to make a point of thanking everyone for getting so much discussion and insight out there. Especially those brave souls that took the plunge and worked tirelessly to give us the info we wanted early on. Kudos!

Lastly, I am proud to say that directly after finishing my reading here and speaking with a VERY helpful and VERY prompt rep named Lorenzo at Ploom, that I ordered the Onyx! Words cannot describe how fucking excited I am; you're all to blame. ;)

P.S. - The Pax will also be my very first vape! Exciting times, these are.

So I posted the other day that my Mouthpiece came and got stuck immediately... well I was able to pull it out and after some more cleaning of the spring area/ air path I was able to wear in the new mouthpiece. The first time pulling it out took the most force, and then it slowly got easier and easier each time I pulled it out. Now it is pretty much functioning like a normal mouthpiece. At first I was having trouble with the temp light but for some reason it appears to be recognizing the connection now. I was having a shitload of trouble with everything in the beginning but now for some reason my mouthpiece has been working better than ever.

New Problem: My temp light button keeps on having issues. Every once in a while if I try enough it will randomly allow me to push it down and change the temperature but for the most part it seems un-pushable. It's weird because the temp light button will randomly work and allow me to push it and then all of the sudden it will be completely stuck and not move for days. As of right now it isn't really an issue because I only use this thing on High for the most part. But I really want to have full function of the device.

Futuretvowner,
I am a new Pax owner and am hoping that I do not experience the issues some of you have experienced. My routine so far is to clean the Pax as instructed by Ploom every time before charging. I also do a dry swab after each session just to keep it spiffy. Hopefully this will keep me from experiencing some of the MP issues.

However, for those who are going farther to remove the spring and whatnot, I wonder what you make of the warranty that says it can be void if you clean the Pax in ways not specified by Ploom. I would hate to be without my Pax for awhile, but if I do experience these issues, I will be more tempted to take advantage of the 10-year warranty and send it to Ploom to let them fix it than risk messing with something that could void my warranty.

Thoughts?

There is a point where Ploom will instruct you to clean it in ways that can potentially damage it (put iso on the MP and "actuate" it in the air-path), before they will move to having you send it in, for any of the problems that are resolved by cleaning, unless you become insistent/persistent about returning it, which can potentially get iso in the temp button. I am not going to say removing the spring is bad, but I don't have any desire to do that with mine. I simply clean around the area when I need to. Hopefully removing the spring isn't creating problems for anyone with warranty issues, but I can see the reason for concern about it.

future: I also had trouble with the new style mouthpiece being difficult to remove, esp. compared to the first run. It seems to hang on to it more, and I have to use a bit of force to pop it out sometimes. If my temp light were stuck, I would send it back, but I feel for your situation, you have been jacking with this for a while, and I know patience can run thin. All BS aside, I can honestly say the few quirks I have with my pax do not outweigh the pleasure I am getting from having/using it.

Did you clean the MP with ISO? I was having the temp light problem and once when I cleaned it I wasnt careful and I believe a bit of iso may have got on my button as well, and it got jammed up. I wiggled and messed with it and now I can change temps again with no problem. I was fragile with the temp button in moving it though.

It's really been working no problems the last couple of days or else I probably would be trying to get a replacement. I remember last time my temp light was completely stuck it started moving again on its own a week later or so. In all honestly as long as these are manufacturers defects I'm really in no hurry to have it replaced because I know I can always use the warranty. I am a bit weary though of keeping a $250 vape that is having such vital-internal problems. Everything is going well now but I know the next time I turn it on could be the time that it goes straight to templight and I am stuck vapeless until further cleaning...

Yeah.. F* Combustion..
Has anyone tried mixing product?

I was thinking about putting some good on the bottom, a little keefy, then packing the rest with mid grade? My thought process is this, "If the best way is a fully packed oven, why not put some good on the bottom to get that first kick, then the keefy kicks in, and then you have the benefit of having a full oven without having the benefit (lack there of) of an empty wallet.

Anyone tried this? Anyone want to try this? I don't have a guy for mids, but if it works, then I will find someone.

So, just to chime in on the cleaning/spring removal topic. I took my spring out and soaked it. When I put it back in, the MP was really tight and hard to push in. I obviously messed up the spring. I took it out and it looked kinda stretched, so I wound it up and squished it for a few seconds and re-inserted it.

Now it's working better than ever! My suggestion is to go with what Jam said and not take out the spring. That said, your Pax is going to gunk up, there is no getting around it. The more potent your flowers, the gunkier it's gonna get! I am cleaning mine every night when I get home and I hope to never have to remove the spring again.

I have, on several occasions, felt that I wanted to return my Pax. The thing is, it's so damn nice and works great. I'm willing to put the time in to clean it because it's really that good.
