Discontinued Pax Vaporizer by Ploom

I've only had the Pax for one day so far, so we will see long-term, but so far, I don't get the complaint about the draw. Yes, it is a little restricted, but I do not find it uncomfortably restricted at all. For example, when my iolite screen is dirty, it can be uncomfortable to use. It's almost like trying to breathe through a straw. You feel like you aren't getting enough oxygen, and your lungs start screaming for more inward air. It sounds like this kind of restricted draw is what some are experiencing with the Pax, but I have not found that to be the case at all. Yes, it forces you to draw more slowly, but that seems by design, and I have not yet found that to be uncomfortable at all.

I'm not sure that I would use this as my daily driver simply because of its need to be excessively clean, but on my first impression, it is EXACTLY what I have wanted as a portable vape for around the yard, on the go, or at a show, which was my primary reason for targeting the Pax in the first place. If she keeps performing like she did last night...holy shit balls. I could not ask for better in a portable.

I have sinus issues so any restriction makes it hard to breath and I get an immediate headache tis why the pax is not right for me. It is a great unit but you have to know all the pros and cons.

I'm traveling up the coast tonight to spend a few days in wine country, this will be my first real outing with Pax and I can't wait. I am concerned with the evening weather being so cold. I stepped out with the dog yesterday when it was windy and chilly and while Pax was warming up the lights were changing from purple to yellow (low). I happened to remember that it might be a connection issue with the mp and I pushed it in all the way a couple of times and it fixed the situation. I'm not sure if it was weather related or a cleaning issue....I clean once a day.

What I like about having a vape, I went to a friends house.. he had some shake leftover, he goes through a lot, and offered me the shake fo free. I said sure. 2.3 came home, and I am enjoying that as we speak. He didn't want it because it had some small stems in it, and it "doesn't pack well".

Indeed. I can see how the draw could be an issue for some. I was worried about that since I had heard several people complain about it, and I had experienced that problem sporadically with my TV Evo if I didn't load it right, and I know how it can dramatically diminish the enjoyment of the session. So far, though, it is not a problem for me. I don't find it uncomfortable at all.

I wonder if we could come up with a way to illustrate the draw for those who are looking at a Pax but are concerned about that. I might start experimenting with things around the house to get an approximation of the draw as a pre-test.

For those with draw issues, try light sipping. Quite enjoyable.

Well from doing it with an empty oven it was a white castle milk shake and for those who don't know who hard you have to suck your brains out it is thick. A regular milk shake can't hold a candle to the delicious WC shake. I wouldn't want to drink one daily though. Glad I am on the other coast now so no more white castle for me.

No White Castles in my part of the country either, so can't really relate to that. It's interesting that you judge the draw as sucking your brains out. It has not struck me that way at all even though I totally know the feel you are describing. I had that impact at times with the Evo, and it is very uncomfortable. I guess it's all relative in the end.

A while castle milk shake is like sucking frozen ice cream out of a container. It is soooooooooooo good though lol.

Take the screen out of your oven and look carefully at the edges. You'll need to look closely. You can barely see that they are slightly wavy.

That's your air path in the Pax.

Conduction vapourizers work best with slow intermittent draws. The Pax is designed to make sure your draw is slow. If you get a milkshake-like draw, you're pulling too hard. If you pull gently, it's not like a milkshake. Clearly TDND is not over-pulling.

Even with a slow pull it is still more restrictive then some others but you are correct paka. Some of us just can't pull that slow. It is a wonder how I can pull slow enough not to combust in my mflb. I was with someone yesterday who pulls way faster then I do. I think I use about a minimum pull....a normal breath type pull. Anything slower or faster just annoys me but that is me. Again why we all have different needs.

With clogged sinuses you pulls have to be short or no O2 to my brain and I am lacking enough don't ya thing....ok don't answer that. Also if I cough I can end up in bad shape.

So I got my replacement MP also from vapeworld, and by the time it arrived I felt real comfortable with the cleaning of the PAX and I am now rarely having the temp light problem.

Soaking everything in ISO is not needed as I use the dental brushes and now the pipe cleaners in the MP and the tube/spring area, but I do soak the screen and MP in ISO every 2 or 3 cleanings.

My screen is having a bit of problems fitting in but thats sorted out with a bit of moving around also.

Overall everything is working efficiently again and I even had my PAX last 2 days without a charge.
Ive been experimenting and after being a 90% Medium guy, I now moved down to LOW, as taste is better and I still get clouds. High is unpleasant but I may go there if Im feeling like getting that extra punch in the face.

I get that too while I am waiting for the bus after work (and after a previous 1-2 sessions) in the cold. What I do is lean the MP forward until it heats up a bit, I believe it heats up the resin that blocks the sensor and then it works well after.

I also notice that if you try that clicking MP trick several times it doesnt really help when its freezing cold. I find the only way is to heat it up by anymeans before it becomes functional.

Where did you order dude and how long did it take to reach you? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger too. Anything i need to know?

I ordered directly through Ploom figuring I would be certain to get the updated mouthpiece. Plus, it's the same price through them as through anywhere else (would not even consider Ebay) and I'd rather deal directly with the manufacturer. Screw the t-shirts and grinders. I ordered it on Tuesday and had it Saturday. Not too shabby.

Just had another session with a kief sandwich with the same outstanding results as last night. I am feeling VERY nice right now. I've already developed the routine of starting on medium (will try out low again later, just enjoying this for now), getting a good 6-7 strong, milky hits, then stirring and switching to high and getting another 2-3 decent hits, albeit popcorn pretty quickly. With this method, the abv is coming out black. My friend has a cloud, and I plan to compare it with his abv, but this little Pax seems to draw everything out of the herb. I am VERY impressed so far.

Which brings me to a couple questions:

1. No concern about opening the oven while still heating, yes? I just kept the MP open while stirring and repacking the oven.

2. I'm a little unsure how that screen fits in there exactly. I have not had need to remove it obviously and it looks a little fragile, which gives me concern about how rough I can get with it. I like to dry swab the oven with a q-tip after each session. Any concern about harming or adversely moving the screen? Seems not since you can pack the load down pretty tight but not sure.

3. How often do you guys clean the air path with the pipe cleaner? Does it just poke the screen out? If so, is it easy and self-explanatory to get it back in? Anything I need to know about that before trying it?

1) I don't know the official word, but I've never had any issue other than vapor escaping. I still prefer to switch it off.

2)The raised edge of the screen goes over the air shaft. It doesn't click in or anything which is weird to me. You can poke it out by running a pipe cleaner down the mouthpiece side. It's thin, but I have no fear of breaking it.

3) See #2. The more you keep it clean, the better it behaves. That being said, its every few days to once a week. Others do it after each session. It's pretty quick and easy.

^this is the most important thing you will learn with your new pax. With good care and regular cleanings, youll never smoke out of anything else. Well you might, but idk why...
Also, I find by stirring you can get a few extra rips if your enjoying a nice personal vape sesh.

I have to stop medicating for a job now..in the meantime, has anyone tried pipe tobacco in theyre pax?? Ive got some and im debating it right now......

I use a soft draw, same as if you were just breathing air with out thinking about it, rather than sucking, I take a natural breath through the pax and always get a good hit, until its spent. If you force at all it will feel restrictive. Think gentle...

I was just thinking as I was running a pipe cleaner through my Pax, how similar this after smoke routine is to a traditional tobacco pipe. I use to always have to tap out my ashes, and then run a pipe cleaner through the stem after a session.

Just did a full cleaning on my Pax for the first time after five sessions. I was surprised at how dark my pipe cleaner was after running it through the air path. I did just like the instructions stipulated, using an alcohol wipe to moisten the pipe cleaner and running it through the air path. I can also see now how the screen sits on the bottom of the oven. Really simple to clean, but after seeing the pipe cleaner following a small handful of sessions, I can see why it is important to be diligent in cleaning it.

Another question. At this point, I seem to be getting three sessions to a charge. Am I better off running through all three sessions before charging, or is this battery the type that works best with more frequent charging, like after each session if possible. No memory in this thing, right? Seems like the manufacturer answered that at some point.

No memory effect. This type of battery does benefit from frequent charging; I generally just pop it on before bed at night.

Ive been stalking this feed for quite a while now and was wondering how efficient the pax was compared to other vapes..say the volcano and the MFLB? and also if (as i plan on ordering mine soon) there is any site online thats best to order my pax from?

I would say to leave it on the charger over night and until you use it the next day for a few days to condition the batterie. This worked with mine, I was getting pretty bad battery life and after I did this I could go a whole day or even a day and a half on one charge.

It's definitely not as efficient as either one. Pax is a conduction vape, so it is always cooking the oven, unlike a convection type. That being said, I really don't feel it uses up that much more of my stash. I get 20 or so good hits from an oven and feel pretty good halfway through that.

The pax apparently stops charging after the light turns green. If this is true, leaving it on the charger for a couple of days won't achieve much. What does help, is frequent charges; so by being sure to drop it on the charger each night, you help the battery "stabilize" the internal chemistry. An occasional (once a month) full drain is also a good idea with these types of batteries, although I believe the Pax doesn't allow this?

ok im very new to vapes only used the MFLB a couple of times and was also wondering how the high of other vapes again volcano and MFLB compare to the PAX?
