I've been listening to 'ancestors - of sound mind' a lot lately. It's a good hybrid of stoner metal/prog.

Flo, the progressive chick does the voice for Joy Peterson on Tom Goes To The Mayor. I love those crazy fuckers too. But to keep it on topic with music, here is a great jam to vape to from Tom Goes To The Mayor.

I like Tom Waits and his style, but I've found a similar female version of Waits, her name is Jill Tracy. Has anyone heard of Tracy and likes her stuff?

If you like jill tracy, should also checkout Humanwine, Amanda Palmer, Reverend Glasseye and his Wooden Legs...

I've been listening to All Day by Girl Talk a lot lately. He's this DJ that mashes up a lot of Top 40's kinda hits with a lot of great music from the seventies and eighties. He does a "pay what you want" on all of his albums, so you guys should check it out! It's seriously one of my favorite albums of all time. The beginning of the albums is Black Sabbath's War Pigs synced up with Move Bitch by Ludacris :D Check it out: http://illegal-art.net/allday/

Here's some nice end-of-civilization-as-we-know-it music (and video clip), both hilariously trashy in the weirdest wtf hip-hop way and catchy at the same time. Die Antwoord (Afrikaans for 'The Answer') from South Africa.

was just watching this at a friends house earlier. The latest video Evil Boy is just as true to Die Antwoords unique style. But very phallic, very lolwtf but sounds pretty good

Hi BookWorm,

Gary Numan is difficult to categorize but there's a period which his "gothic" fans prefer and it is my understanding that's falling somewhere between his Outland and Jagged albums. Here are samples typical of Numan's darker side i believe:

YouTube: Dream Killer, Outland (1990), Gary Numan

YouTube: The Seed of a Lie, Sacrifice (1994), Gary Numan

YouTube: Dead Heaven, Exile (1997), Gary Numan

YouTube: Pure, Pure (2000), Gary Numan

YouTube: Crazier, Hybrid (2003), Gary Numan

YouTube: Halo, Jagged (2006), Gary Numan

I consider his art started becoming mature in the mid-nineties, perhaps when he changed from jumpy to emotional so to speak. Being a long date fan it's hard for me to tell where his goth style shows best so that's why i'm submitting more samples for you to decide... Personnally, my favourite tunes sound more like Absolution, Dominion Day, Prayer For The Unborn, Little in Vitro, Ancients, Haunted and more.

:leaf:

I suppose there are people who will find that Numan's sound isn't gothic enough but i'm sure we can tag that sort of music as being slightly tainted with, lets say, shadows of torment! Especially the lyrics... In any case, i'd suggest using this reference as a starting point if you feel like listening at more goth. Oh, and PLEASE: don't hesitate to get back to me with your own findings as i'm opened to musical discoveries!

I'm sure I must have posted this already, but it really can't be recommended enough times:
2001---Blackwater-Park.jpg

Opeth - Blackwater Park

It was the first Opeth album i ever heard, nearly 10 years ago, and i'm still totally in love with it. every song is an epic journey ("The Drapery Falls", "The Funeral Portrait" and "Bleak" are definitely among the highlights for me). i love the dynamic range thats equal parts aggression and tranquility, harmony and dissonance... the fresh, progressive unpredictability but without being too intentionally awkward and still delivered within a familiar and comfortable pattern, . Opeth is without a doubt one of the most original and endlessly creative bands i've ever heard. The more times you listen to their music, the more things you find in it to appreciate it. maybe it will be a bass fill, a drum pattern, keyboard ambiance, or background melody/interval, but something new always seems to jump out at you.

and, fuck, dont even get me started on their live performances. :o
