I thought they were coming out with a hands free version, no worries if not though because these joints have been used in the laboratory for some time now so they actually make a clamp to hold these together. See the picture below.

http://www.adamschittenden.com/admin/images/content/1061.jpg
Those clamps look like a much better idea then the current hands free attachment. I hope they are spring loaded so you just pinch to put it on or take off.

Maybe they are trying to source some clamps that work and sell them on the website.

@ RGNSUP - Welcome to FC and WOW what an amazing first post! That thing is awesome looking, especially for being totally free-hand. I've thought about customizing a SSV like that, but I'd have to draw it out of paper and then somehow wrap/stick/print it onto the housing somehow and then put a clear coating on it or something. I just wouldnt know exactly how to go about doing it.

Someone (your cousin maybe?) should go into the business of customizing SSVs/DBVs! Have ppl email them some image files of what designs they have in mind and get a quote or whatever. I know i'd pay a decent amount of money to have my SSV customized, i imagine i'm not alone.
Ahh, that could be a great idea! I was definitely interested on the feedback I'd get on what he did to mine. I'm going to talk to him and see what he says about it. This could go somewhere...

Yeah, he's pretty good with doing hands free stuff (especially after using the SSV :D) I've watched him just get a blank sheet and just go to town and in like 20-30 minutes, he'd produce some sick, crazy drawing. I just never could understand how he does it. He's trying to get into tattooing and is pretty good.

Are they making all the SSV's with the ground glass/hands free technology now? I only ask because I was looking at purchasing one from vapeworld.com (black with rainbow) and it was talking about Ground Glass parts with Hands-free technology. I think I read somewhere on this thread that you can specify if you want the GG model or just a standard SSV without the GG. I prefer the SSV that doesn't come standard with GG. Am I misunderstanding something?

You might email Chris @ Vapeworld. I know members here have gotten both styles through them. I ordered direct from 7th floor myself.

7th floor now has the handsfree for the spherical it's very similar to the standard.
@mlo4sho vapeworld is one of the 2 us distributors. I can't speak directly for them but I can speak for a ton of headshops in that they are only interested in the gg ssv's. dabuddha's tend to outsell the ssv's at a 3 to 1 clip in the small shops. Most people want something that's easy to use and with the standard gg its set it and forget it so it's an easier sell and the shop people don't need to learn any real technique to teach the customers.
On a sidenote I've used all 3 connections and I'm torn between the spherical and the standard ground glass. I think that it's just so much easier to vape through a bong with the standard gg because it truely is hands free.
Now I also love the spherical its really really similar to the standard but I can get the most lung busting hits and the lowest temps. My surfer is right around 1130 12 with the spherical it's around 1230 with the standard gg and 12 with the standard.

If you look at my post on the previous page there is a picture of a clamp that will make the Spherical connection truly hands free. It is not a piece of sheet metal, it is an actual clamp, theya re even available in stainless steel.

Very good analysis. I am typical of the buyer that you are mentioning. I started with the DBV and I went with GG, but also have an original style SSV heater cover and wands. I went back and forth a couple of times, but I learned that changing heater covers has a high price if you break the base trying to get a tight fit. I broke two heater covers doing this...although I was overly medicated both times and forced the collar down over too large of a metal shim.

GG is the new default connection when you order off vapeworld. I got my SSV through them and called them up immediately after i placed the order online and requested a standard wand/heatercover instead of GG and they accommodated my req w/o issues.

I def agree that the GG connection is appealing to most new vapists. After i bought my DBV a couple of my friend got one. We all shared complaints about the GG get stuck, even when we dont push/twist the wand in very much, as well as what an inconvenience it is when you stir frequently. We also had issues with the wider opening allowing herb to get accidentally blown back through and also it seemed like there is always one spot on the surface of the bowls that got browned a lot more than others. I started loosely inserting my DBV wand and twisting it during my hits so that this hot spot doesnt stay on one part of the bowl for too long and got good results from that (more even vaporization which makes it so you dont taste ABV so early on in the bowl). This was inconvenient to do, and even h arder to explain to other ppl how to do it, and they would often accidentally dump herb into heater cover.

So i realized that every one of my issues would be solved by getting a SSV with standard wand connection. Everyone that has used it says that they love using it "WAAAAY" more than the DBV, and agree that the herb tastes better for longer. I know at least one of my friends is also selling his DBV for a standard SSV, the other wishes he could, but he's poor as hell.

So it def seems that GG is appealing at first, but soon revealed to be more of a pain in the ass than it's worth, since 3 out of 3 of the vapists (ppl who own vapes and dont smoke) I know in RL and 6 out of 6 of the other ppl who have tried my ssv agree that it is much better.

granted, some could have just liked it because of the difference in HC angle. And i'm not saying that everyone that prefers GG is wrong or noob or anything like that by any means. It just seems like GG connections are like training wheels for a lot of vapists, things that are appealing and maybe even helpful to beginners at first, but later on seem more like a hindrance. Thats the best comparison my vaked brain can think of right now :peace:

I couldn't agree more Steiner! I just got finished swapping my buddha heater cover for an ssv cover. That thing hits like a beast now! Not saying the Buddha was a slacker but wow, what a difference. I could give a hoot about the angle, but have to agree that the ssv heater cover is the way to go. Hit's last much longer and I even think it's more forgiving in draw speed then the Buddha was.

Even with the GG connection, the SSV seems to give me better draws with less hot spots than my DBV. It is probably due to different heater cover configuration and dynamics. I also think that the angle is a good thing, which keeps the herb material just a bit further removed from the heater core so it is not as prone to hot spots.

Well, fingers are crossed. I am in the process of acquiring/purchasing a SSV off of craigslist. His ad was listing it for 100 bucks and the ad was 4 days old. The guy texted me back and said that he was out of town for the weekend and that he had already had 3 offers, so I offered him 150 if he saved it for me until he got back. I have to drive out of town to get it becuase he lives an hour away. So looks like by monday I could have a one year old SSV from the original owner. I can only hope that He has all of the parts and everything is in good working order. In the ad he said "lightly used." I am stoked because if its as good as he says then I just saved 110 bucks. This is my first vape btw. I have been eyeing the hell outta alot of the vapes you guys have listed. Still have my heart set on a purple days, but I think I will be able to actually wait for Tom to start taking orders again..... I mean, I start to sweat just thinking about waiting up to 3 weeks for the pandora-kit. anyhoo.... Do you think I made a good deal? What do you guys think? Do you think I prematurely sweetened the deal by taking him on his word? I usually have had awesome experiences on CL. Often times when buying things on CL people tend and can be wishy washy... I guess I am nervous if it falls through.

$150 is a great price if all is in order. Mine is over 2 yrs. old and works as well as ever. If you're picking the unit up in person you shouldn't have any problem. Just hand over the $ after you're satisfied that everything is in order.

Still have my heart set on a purple days,
These two are very complementary. You'll probably find yourself using both, depending on your mood and maybe what you're vaping. I usually use the big hitting SSV for lesser quality herb, since high efficiency is easier to achieve with a tiny bowl. You can also use the SSV's higher temp capability to finish off herb you've vaped with the PD.

Well, I backed out of the deal. I hate it because I really want one. But my 11 year old is spending the summer with me and I am sure that I would have trouble hiding and using the SSV while she is here... and explaining what the heck her daddy is doing.... I guess I will just keep on shopping around. :(

Ahhh!!! Get the aroma top for it and bam! It's an aroma therapy device. I think you should still pick one up!

 +1 to this. I had the aroma top for my DBV and just hid the whip whenever i wasnt using it, kept the vials of essential oils /extracts or whatever right by it. my g/fs kid asked what it was and i told him an oil diffuser. never questioned into it any further, other than to request a particular aroma one time :D

i havent got an aroma dish for my ssv yet, so i move it behind my PC tower on my desk when i'm not using it, between it and the wall. keep it in your bedroom or even bathroom... somewhere where its not unusual for you to need privacy so that you can shut/lock the door for the couple minutes that it takes. If i ever get interrupted by a knock i just ask what they need and if its anything important i come out and deal with it, if not and they're just curious, i tell them that i'll be out in a couple minutes and give them a chore or something else to do.

It's MUCH easier to be stealthy with any vape than it ever was to combust, thats for sure. No noticeable lingering odor is a huuuuge plus for when you have kids, landlords, neighbors, anyone. If you want to be completely 007 about it, I would recommend getting a magic flight launch box as well as a SSV. Use the MFLB during the day, when you're worried about ppl catching you or w/e, and then revape the herb at night in your SSV, because there will still be a good amount of vapor left in it that you can extract with the SSV. Higher temp vaping also helps me get to sleep better, an added bonus to doing things this way.

just my :2c:

You need stealth? Get a Launch Box. It'll do the job as an only vape and when you get an SSV, or whatever, the LB can serve your portable needs. Hell, even if you only vape at home, it's nice to be free to move around or go out and enjoy nature while you get a buzz.

Edit: Just read your post steiner. Just goes to show, haste makes waste-a waste of time in this case. I guess I'm seconding the LB recommendation.

Hey guys. I appreciate your suggestions. I really dont want to take away from vtacs excellent post about the SSV. Definitely dont want to highjack this thread. But, I am leaning more torward the MFLB everyday, just until I can get my hands on either the PD pandora or the MZ. I am one clumsy oaf and the glass on that thing scares me also... as much as I know how awesome the SSV is, and what a fantastic deal I let slip through my fingers, I have to stay practical. Thanks for the responses. I have a few questions about the LB but I will post in that thread. Cheers folks!

Chumni-shame for defiling the glorious bottom boob.

Also, third on the launch box for stealth. But I also have an SSV I love very much. It's just not exactly sneaky.

For the people who have the mini whip, you guys have any tips on replacing the screen in this thing? I've just ruined four trying to get one to sit. :uhoh:

I havent touch the screen in mine yet. I thought it looked like it would be a pain in the ass to get in there, sounds like i was right. Almost looks like the damn thing was made around the screen lol. If i ever get to the point where i need a new screen for whatever reason, i think i'll just buy a whole new mini.

I have a mini whip and I use a chopstick to scrape out the goodness. The chopstick also works for changing screens, just put the chopstick up the long end to keep the screen from going down too far when you push it into place. Hope that makes sense, Sunday morning w/ sour diesel FTW!!!

lol same. and in addition to never blowing it out, i've now started just topping the bowl off bit by bit. Like, i load a fresh bowl at the beginning of the day, about 1/2 way full, loosely packed, and vape that down until it loses about half its mass and im usually good by then. next time i vape i just toss some fresh herb on top. just a tiny bit is usually enough to get me kicked back up to where I need to be and it still never tastes like that bleh abv popcorn taste, but helps me conserve that much more.

it also helps keep the fresher stuff from getting sucked though or around the screen, like it would if you just kept totally emptying and packing fresh bowls. the one complaint i would have about the mini is that it seems to suck more stuff past the screen than my standard does. The wand gets brown with abv powder pretty fast, and while my wandhash harvests have been larger and more frequent with it, they are less potent because theres a bunch of abv powder mixed in with the sticky good stuff.

*edit*

Well, I figure that after switching to the mini, my bags started lasting a bit longer (lets say 1/4 would last 3 weeks instead of 2). Then, after also starting the method above (with just topping bowls off with fresh herb) I'd say i'm going through about half as much as I was back when i just loaded the standard ssv wand up (and not very full even, like 1/8th the bowl at the most) with fresh stuff every time. Closer to 14g per month than 28.
