Thanks for the update, Taylor!

Do you know if they are adressing any warranty issues that came up while they were out of commission? Mine has a pump that got really slow after about a month of use and it has been sitting waiting for some help.

Also, do you think Bruce is/will be affiliated with them anymore?

I've heard through the grapevine, that they'll be getting the warranty issues from the past taken care of, but I haven't gotten any direct info about that yet. I've also heard that Bruce is no longer affiliated with Zephyr Vaporizers, but again I have no direct info about that either.

Sincerely,
Taylor

P.S. Here's a couple pictures of the new Zephyr ION Vaporizer box with the modified color scheme.

Hi,

It's nice to see this thread coming back to life again. Well, lets say the Zephyr turns out to be my very first direct (eye-contact) encounter with a vaporizer in operation, that was before i got actually initiated to vaporism myself the next day...

Please tell me if i'm wrong but it seemed to me like the Zephyr is using a metal ustensile somewhat similar to that of many competitors (HerbalAire, Cloud...), something i'd refer to as a "crucible". I mention this feature because i noticed there's no picture to highlight its particular value, which i find quite regrettable! I wonder, wouldn't it be convenient to offer potential customers an extra crucible or maybe just a rebate coupon (on a 2nd crucible), for example?

The crucible i seen left me a good impression as i recall. At least let us have a few close shots right here, oh please! It would be a shame not to display what's under the cap, IMHO.

...

Euh... Is this the same?

Oh, and thanks for the update, of course.

Yep, that's the same exact crucibles that are included with the Zephyr ION device. Actually two crucibles are included with the purchase of a Zephyr ION Vaporizer, instead of just one.

I think the crucibles are cool, but I do have a gripe about their design. The crucible should have been designed with some sort of metal lip, to where it could catch a removable screen and keep it in place. I just dislike how the screens are like permanently attached to the crucible, and I think the ability to change them out would be a huge upgrade.

I'll provide another update when I get the replacement parts in hand. I imagine there's tons of people out there with Zephyrs and no Zephyr parts...

Take care,
Taylor

Salutations Taylor,

...I think the crucibles are cool...

Not as much as the HerbalAire crucibles but that's another story anyway!

;)

Well, after seeing it in action i remember thinking the Zephyr shape/dimensions contribute to enhance this product's "man's tool" image. Maybe that's how the crucible got its design too... Actually, i'd suspect the handle is likely to be a very suitable item in group situations. More than meets the eye i would say. Do we agree?

Lately i've been using my crucible to transform nuggets texture using heat instead of a grinder, not that one needs to grind with an HA at all, that is... In any case, i figure the Zephyr cap/handle features might simplify such a task significantly: pour it in, flap the lid, take 1 deep inhalation, open the lid, switch crucibles and repeat as required! The HerbalAire's smaller crucible has no handle, ejecting it with help from gravity i can never tell exactly where it will land and how. So, i sure can imagine reasons to like having a large basket with a handle, yet i also understand your concerns relatively to its soldered metal grid.

Eventually the manufacturer might be tempted to offer more accessories, including crucible alternatives, why not!

But 1st lets see if the Zephyr will survive its prolonged absence, for starters - which is why i'm wishing it good luck!

I initiated a service ticket for my Ion and got this response:

Good to hear from you! We're glad to be getting back to normal and we'll be happy to get your unit repaired and running as it should. Please submit the form here: http://zephyrvaporizers.com/service/. Once we get the form, we'll send you an RMA and the address for warranty repairs.

Also, if you know anyone else with a unit that needs repairs, please let them know they can get in touch with us and we will take care of them. Trying to get the word out as we ramp back up. Not being able to help people out with repairs while we were on hiatus was one of the worst parts of it.

Thanks,
Zephyr

So.....get your warranty claims in. They seem willing to make the old ones right! I told them I won mine and didn't have a receipt, and they said no problem. So if they are willing to fix the freebies, it looks good for the paid ones as well!

The zephyr is one of the greatest purchases I've ever made... mine is nearly 2 years old.

The USB thing is cool. I can't wait until it is completed.

The Zeph' takes a tricky screen size though...The screens in the baskets fit perfectly in the top, I just have to find some locally.

The pump seemed to quit pushing air through, so I opened it up. A hose was missing a zip-tie, so I put one on and closed the vape back up. I'm trying to deal with the loud pump noise now. It rattles inside.

I really can't complain otherwise. This thing is awesome. I've used a couple cheap-o whip vapes but the heater core always dies out...

Pretty sure my Zeph' is out of warranty now but it's still kicking. I didn't realize I had it so long lol. It's been a sick device.

Sometimes there is a leak from the mouthpiece. I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't know about the tear drop shape though... Oh well. I honestly just can't complain.

Is there a whip attachment for the zeph?

Salutations Jamerang,

The USB thing is cool.

That terminology could be confusing since we have portables with a USB port as well, but those are only useful for battery-charging: e.g. no data will transit through the USB link in such cases.

I believe the Zephyr iOn is different because it would allow digital communications, ultimately. Though i don't know what level of interactive complexity this product can support, having no pictures providing an idea of what's inside i suppose few persons can tell if any...

Wouldn't it be great if the Zephy iOn USB interface were released to the "free" world of GNU licenses, whatever?... OKay, i'm going to be wild just for a minute! Imagine. Lots of options, LEGO-style - a favourite theme these days - connected to a computer. Maybe there would be modules to swap over, heat-exchanging assemblies, heater core elements, etc. Someday the lucky Zepyr iOn owners would be offered to go the "halogen" mode... Or maybe (why not?!), euh: induction!! Oh my Goodness!... Spread-sheet porn all over the workplace: temperature, pressure, optic features, biofeedback, whatever, name it!...

Euh... Maybe that was too wild after all!!! :D

I can't wait until it is completed.

Good luck with that.

:hmm::hmm:

Personnally i don't own a Zephyr iOn, i'm only curious of it because i've seen it in action once at home with 2 guests. Compared to my HerbalAire it had a massive look, the crucible size was meant for a man's load!...

MouHa! Ha! I was about to make some testosterone joke!... Forget it. Ah! Ha!

Well, the thing is, looking at the Zephyr i thought about how it's like to buy a watch.

In that respect the Zephyr iOn is definitely for men: you can't ignore its size.

Of course i prefer my HerbalAire, nonetheless. For example, i remember having pretty decent reclaims from left-overs produced by this very same unit so perhaps it means something about crucible capacity/dimensions vs temperature, what not!?... Still i sure was impressed when i saw how it performed in multi-user mode...

This thing is awesome. .. I honestly just can't complain.

As with any other brand/model it's what we don't see which may cause trouble, eventually. Had you got a chance to look inside before you made the purchase? Or like me, did you reach a point when it seemed simpler just to make a leap of faith and trust a name's good reputation?...

The Zephyr comes with a USB cable so you can plug it into the computer. There was no documentation about it in the instructions, so I emailed the owners of Zephyr.

They sent me the program. It's a beta. It works, they said there is bugs, I'm not sure why there isn't a public release though. You can turn the Zeph on and off, adjust the temp, adjust the sleep timer, turn the pump on and off, change it from Fahrenheit to Celsius... Eventually, I'd love to see an Android/iPhone app. That would be the cat's pajamas. I rarely pack the basket full: maybe just half way or a pinch. You don't need to fill it to get a good quality bag... I keep mine on 370 and it absolutely will not burn.

Well, I guess I have 2 complaints. I still can't get the upper grommet to stay in (I just replaced, might just put the old one in, it stayed in before). The rubber pegs that hold the lid in broke. They are replaceable, but, such a specific size if I want to MacGyver something... I'll keep trying.

Yeah, it's pretty huge, but it doesn't look overly tacky. It feels "tough" I guess. Kind of like how small heavy electronics feel like good quality?

I don't have a lot of experience with other vapes... I've tried a Volcano and I disliked the valve system on it. But that's for another thread or something.

Man I type a lot after a bag. Lol.

So, if i'm making the correct assumption here, the source-code wasn't part of that software package. Right?

Man I type a lot after a bag.

Not the economic format of bag that leaves one think of a second session early, hey?!...

I honestly joined just to post in this thread lol.

I don't think they sent the source code as well. I don't know what extension to search for to verify that. It's a driver package, that's for sure.

Economic? Well I guess so. The bags are thick and milky if you pack a full bowl. I prefer gentle vapor, so I rarely pack it full... That's more for a gathering of people. A milky bag literally knocks me out. Heck, the Zeph has knocked a couple people out in my own experience.

I bought it second-hand by the way. The old grommet for the lid has 2 parts cut out to make it fit a little better. Maybe the early Zeph's came shipped with grommets that are just a tad too large??? They seem to expand with heat slightly, causing them to pop out. I know my hinge pins have something to do with that too though...

Oh, and the sticky vape resin that collects in the lid. It's great, sort of. I keep a stash of it to use in a BHO or ISO experiment....

I doubt that they would have included the code either; but if they did it would most likely be in a folder labelled "src" if it was

I don't know where to post this so move it if it's in the wrong spot.

Alright so I've had this Zeph' for a while and it has been rumbling pretty bad. It's out of warranty at this point so I had no problem opening it up. It's very well built, but I took minimal pictures as this was my 5th time opening and closing it today... Took a while to find the root cause of the rattle/rumble.

At one point, I thought it was the small black box next to the air pump. I put two-sided tape on it (it's far enough away from the heater that it should be alright). Made the noise worse. Lol. Whatever. I found if I set it on a slight angle to the right, it would rumble less. Odd. Anyways...

I found out the power cord was slightly out of place. There is a ridge that it presses into.

Here is where the heater core plugs in. This is merely for reference.

IMG_20121124_190318.jpg

It has quick disconnects that unclip like speaker terminals. The colored ribbon wire is for the USB plug.

Okay so after taking the Zeph apart, which is really easy anyone can do it, I rattled it until I found the stupid thing that was making the noise. It was the heater core. I was scared. It is attached to a mounting plate by 4 screws, remove them. Here is the catcher for anything that goes into the heater core by accident (you SHOULD have a screen below the crucible).

IMG_20121124_190507.jpg

You can see some material has fallen into there. Screens don't catch everything.

IMG_20121124_190515.jpg

You should see this. If you're lucky, you can just tighten that nut up and be good to go. Ignore the hose (and hair, holy eff macro)

IMG_20121124_191110.jpg

I just removed the gasket and tightened the nut up.

I'm sure it holds a purpose in being there, but, since it broke, the core was rattling around which is even worse. Threadlocker should be used, but, that is probably too toxic for this application. I don't know what could remedy this except routine maintenance.

IMG_20121124_191309.jpg

And yeah, that's all there is to it. Replace the zip-ties on the hoses and tighten them up real good. Mine have come off before.

That's my experience today. My Zeph is much more quiet now.

This isn't intended as a how-to, just some info for you guys.

Good luck getting your zephyrs fixed. The company is horrible now. I bought mine right before their legal problems. It worked for about 2 months. So I contacted them now that their back in business, first they hassled me about repairing it. After 4 emails they finally agreed to repair it. I shipped it to them but after a couple weeks they claimed not to receive it. Anybody else have this problem?
