I think it is more efficient the way you are using it. You are looking for the right temp going over your herbs. This temp is effected by the temp of the heating element, the speed of the draw and the length of the airpath between the element and the herb. So if you pack that thing full and get the herb close to the mouth of the heater cover you will get a hotter airstream when it is hitting your herb. I do not recommend this. I was just chiming in that I can use the full spectrum of the heater temperature without combustion.

I kinda thought about something even smaller than the mini wand too, but after using it for a while i really can't say that i need it. putting a 1/3-1/2 load in the mini is about what i need, if it was much smaller i might be getting near having to do multiple bowls per session. i'm very happy with the size of the thing.
I guess you're right. I'm a real light user and I thought it needed the whole screen to be covered to work best. I put a pinch in the bowl and just gave a slow half rotation back and forth while I drew in and it got the ABV dark brown just like when the whole screen is covered. Mini wand seems to work ok even with the smallest amount. I agree with someone's earlier post that the original hose and mouthpiece is better than the mini wands one.

yeah that was me lol. One thing i've noticed with my mni wand is taht some herb gets in that little grrove that the screen sits in around the edges, and if its ground fine enough it can be a pretty significant amount. What i've started to do is just dump out my wands when they're spent, not dump them and them blow it out good. This way the stuff down there around the bottom of the bowl stays there and the next fresh load i put it will be able to keep more to the center of the screen, where it can get properly vaped.

But my screen did get clogged up after a while of me not blowing it clear after bowls. Not a problem tho, i turned the dial up higher and took a few hits and got some decent clouds off the screen and it was clear again lol

I went to my local grocery store and bought a box of those small alcohol pads they use to clean the area before they give you a shot. A little over a dollar, you get a hundred of them, and great for cleaning SSV bowls. I was using "Pipe Wipes" before until I realized these alcohol pads are 70% iso and much cheaper.

Very nice! I think SSVs look great in any color/shade, but if they wouldn't have had the black rainbow's end finish i got, i'd have gone with that shiny lime green one instead.

Hello guys! I'm a longtime lurker and first-time poster. After lots of consideration and reading I have decided on the SSV. My question is: Did most of you buy it directly form 7th floor (ssv.com) or is buying from a separate site ok? I have been seeing crazy deals on twitter from diff sites selling a basic SSV for $189+. This is much cheaper than the 7th floor website. My only worry would be that 7th floor would not honor the warantee and/or provide support if it were to break. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help.

That price of $189 is good and I would not hesitate if I were you, I imagine they would still honor the warranty but if they do not you could probably replace anything that would go wrong with $15-20, its electrical composition is a cartridge heating element and a rheostat.

If that website is bogus however then you can bid on Ebay, if you check the completed listings then you will see new ones go for the same price all the time but you will not have a big choice on color. Other than that you can check our retailer section, most give a discount of around 12% on orders from board members.

Interesting comparison of the SSV and DBV... I have both..

I currently have the GG set-up on my SSV, so both units have similar connections and delivery. So, my SSV was packed away and the DBV was easier to grab, so I used my DBV this weekend.

Interesting that I found the temperature easier to control on the SSV than the Da Buddha, even though they are both ground glass. I had a few burnt bowls with the DBV at moderate heat, whereas I never seem to have trouble with the SSV.

I think that the size and orientation of the SSV heating element and slightly different heater cover provides better control on the heat. I am wondering if the downward angle between the heating element and the loaded wand also works to keep the loaded herbs a bit cooler when the unit is on standby too... A loaded DBV wand seems like it is somewhat more directly adjacent to the heat...

No big revelation here, but I thought I would share my experience...Maybe because I just vaped some fresh sativa and my head is working overtime!

I still think that the DBV is a great buy for folks who do not want to splurge for the SSV, but I think that the original Silver Surfer design seems to be slightly better for my vaping needs, even with the ground glass set-up.

So I tried out the spherical ground glass heater cover and wand. I'm really conflicted now. I like the standard gg because it's hands free and thus much more convenient but I love the way the spherical works. I get thicker hits and my herb is now more of a golden color no mater how long I vape it. I think because the adapter makes the bowl portion a little longer it works perfect. I still vape right at 12oclock and my herb seems to last much longer.

I thought they were coming out with a hands free version, no worries if not though because these joints have been used in the laboratory for some time now so they actually make a clamp to hold these together. See the picture below.

Hello everyone! Just came across this thread and forum... I've owned my SSV since Christmas and let's just say I'm in love. I just had my cousin draw on mine and figured I'd share. He still has to go and touch it all up.

What kind of paint/enamel did your cousin use? Was it heat resistant?

thanks

Thanks! About half way through reading this whole thread...

He used pencil, sharpie and prismacolor. He didn't even look at anything and did that from his imagination and knowing I love surfing. I figured the housing doesn't get hot enough to worry it being heat resistant, but I guess time will tell. He still has to touch it up and then I want to get some kind of clear coat to protect and preserve it.

@ RGNSUP - Welcome to FC and WOW what an amazing first post! That thing is awesome looking, especially for being totally free-hand. I've thought about customizing a SSV like that, but I'd have to draw it out of paper and then somehow wrap/stick/print it onto the housing somehow and then put a clear coating on it or something. I just wouldnt know exactly how to go about doing it.

Someone (your cousin maybe?) should go into the business of customizing SSVs/DBVs! Have ppl email them some image files of what designs they have in mind and get a quote or whatever. I know i'd pay a decent amount of money to have my SSV customized, i imagine i'm not alone.
