It's a jungle out there. Better grab a map and compass if you are nail shopping.
BTW: a bad tasting boro or quartz nail is usually too hot.

I too get my quartz nails and my latest HE "C-cup" TI nails from ALT. Almost every TI nail on ebay is a chinese fake. Some have dangerous metals like zinc and aluminum in them. NONE are grade 2 titanium. NONE. One guy sent me a Soviet "Certificate" that his nails were Grade 2 Ti. Too bad he didn't read the fine print that said the specs were for "2mm sheet metal Titanium". Nails aren't sheet metal ..... wtf?

I've also bought quartz nails on eBay that were just boro glass (so many fakes!). Quartz nails are very tough...you can toss a hot one in water and it won't shatter. Quartz heats slower (a good check) and lasts unlike glass. Also they cost little and have good taste. I've had a few glass ones shatter while heating them.

I was talking with Task from Highly Educated Ti a few days ago and he pointed out a page in his blog for me to read. It's enlightening to read it (quoted) below, THEN go on eBay, read very carefully and you will be shocked.

"Made in USA" means "Made in China" on eBay. I even own a "MINT" fake "Made in USA:" Chinese nail. It's going in the trash tonight as I don't want to give away poison to anyone.

Here is a Fake Highly Educated Nail. It even says "Highly Educated Titanium Nails" on the site linked from eBay. I just had their 12 eBay accounts closed and removed yesterday for selling illegally marked as "Made in the USA" Chinese nails. US Customs is also acting but pot will be legal by the time US Customs does anything to protect your health. MINT opened 9 new eBay accounts as of tonight. Sigh.

http://www.titanium-nails.com/titaniumnail.html What does this page linked from eBay say? No, it's not Highly Educated. It's not even a TITANIUM nail! It's plain 25 cent stainless steel and ALUMINUM. Do you want to smoke off toxic aluminum? OMG. MINT MFG. from China owns that site and many others. All fake nails, all fake names. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS LINK ABOVE, it's steel and toxic aluminum. As of today, there are no real Graded TI nail on eBay.com. None are "Grade 2 Ti" NONE..all fakes.

Thank you XXX for drafting the documents for me. I gave them to the attorney service you suggested for delivery to their import agent. I'm glad someone else cares about safety as well.

Did you know I have addressed this issue on the highly educated titanium blog? If you have any ideas on how to get the info out to the people, just let me know. You can read about it here: http://www.highlyeducatedti.com/blog/?p=132

I wish I had a team of lawyers to help me or money to fund you, even if I did, these guys Mint manufacturing are from China and it would be an international issue. At least you have stopped the flow for a moment at customs.
The best we can do is just educate each other. Thanks for your help in trying to stop the flood. I owe you big time, just name it.

Task

Three days after MINT MFG was served a lawsuit by myself, they filed a new business license and import licenses for more toxic Chinese Made in USA nails...... it never stops. And the US Customs knows MINT is falsely making them as USA made... What's a person (or lawyer) to do?

Thank GOD we have forums to share about these money grabbing profiteers and the toxic nails they offer YOU. Remember a REAL TI or Quartz nail protects your health. (and your money) So, please do some homework before purchasing any nail. It's a jungle out there.

This is the TI receipt from my ebay nail. Is that the "soviet" document he was talking about? Don't see the mention of sheet metal, only titanium alloy bars grade 2

SD_haze,

That certificate is supplied by a Chinese importer to all their wholesalers. Most larger volume auction site sellers don't know about Ti "purity", they get asked by site buyers for something that shows the grade, so they ask the distributor... and poof! There it is for you to download off of Google Docs.

Several different auction site sellers use it for different styles of nails. The certificate above sometimes has different dates and inspector stamps but always the same analysis. It's not the sheet metal one I was sent. The nail you show above is Ti but not of the material listed on that certificate. I have one from that seller in 14mm. I don't know if it's safe or not. Only one distributor is being aimed at due to their misuse of stamping nails as "Made in the USA". It's the only way to stop them. One address closes down only to open up in another address in Hong Kong one day later.

Many people have these "Chi Nails" (myself included) and like the low cost. But people who want the best in health should know there are fakes... and decide if it's worth the risk. For a couple of years Chinese nails were a "secret" (not these days with "healthy" being synonymous with cannabis) Good to have choices. And good to know if thinking a Ti tool is on your shopping list. I've decided if I can skip my tea at Starbucks habit in half for a month, I can afford a truly "safer" nail.

However one question to ponder as I look at both our nails.... the seller says "100% Made in the U.S.A. with 100% U.S. Grade 2 Titanium". Why are the threads metric? ;)

Ultimatly i have concluded it is a heat issue. Just had to find this little puppies tell. If its boro... It looks really good. Cause i would have walked out of that LHS with zip if he had not cut a deal on this quartz, and the Ti he had looked like the such discussed above, and better judgment wouldnt allow,me to go that route.

None the less... Im gonna post some pics to the new glass page later... Eventually :p

Was going to order one of the cheapo ti nails on eBay until I read this.

Does anyone have experience with this ti nail sold by oregonglassblower? There's no counterweight, but I know he's a reputable seller so I would hope that it really is Grade 2 ti. Seems like a good deal for $34 shipped.
On one hand, I've never seen a nail like that sold on ebay. So that is a good sign.
On the other hand, that still feels a bit too cheap. Basically exact same price as the ebay nails.

I couldn't say definitively one way or another, but think I'm leaning towards $34 shipped=negatory

That is a Ti nail made from a Ti screw. It's very common to see these. However what grade of Ti and if it's a safe CP grade is the difficult question.
Ti screws that are safe are CP Grades 1-4 (pure Ti). Almost all Ti screws are from Grade 5 alloy (high end medical screws) to Grade 32 alloy (lowest grade for industrial screws).
But since most Chinese nails are marked "Grade 2" and usually "USA" what is a person to do? Especially when the retailer was assured that they are genuine..

Very simple rule: Nails made from screws are grade 5 or lower alloys.
Best bet: A USA made quality nail only costs double. Just depends on if you like some unhealthy metal gasses with your healthy oil.

Well, I'm happy I ended up going with the Dab N Flo nail set.

I've been dabbing through my DG mini, but I'm not that biggest fan of the residual smell/taste this oil (ABV Oil) leaves in it when I want to switch back to flowers, so I decided to make my K-Nine Pug my dabbing rig.

I've been using the middle length screw section in the DG, but that's too long to fit in the Pug.
I switched to the short screw section, and it fits perfectly :)

I really can't see myself needing any other nail in the foreseeable future.

Just got my first rig, the lampworker/blower out of AZ organic glass sent me 2 glass nails with the rig. I was on here debating if I was going to take the chance on an a cheap amazon TI but its advertised as grade 2 made in the usa as most of the fakes ones on ebay. Anyway I was interested in your method of making abv oil. I know weeddemon has this whole post on here on which method is better, and I understand running your abv through tane then dissolving in ethanol is what he does. I was hoping you can enlighten me on a different method. and if you have ever tried dabbing it on glass nails. I live in miami so Im lucky to get a few grams of here and there of premium extracts from colorado, sfv wax, blue dream crumble, etc. I was lucky to snag a few in anticipation of my new rig but I have a bunch of abv sitting around from the cano.

The second extraction thru ethanol isn't necessary it will remove the fat and waxes from your bho making it more potent and IMO healthier but doesn't have to be done. As far as the butane extraction we have a cpl write ups on them here already, it's all basically the same except for purge techniques unless your doing a closed extraction like a thermos method or a tami extractor. Depending on how much oil your running will change your purge a bit. If its a small run when you blast outside away from any combustibles you can have a pan under your collection plate filled with hot water for your hot water bath you may need to change the water a couple times then you can continue purging indoors with low heat I suggest a hotplate or a candle warmer. If its a large run you want to vac it too. This is the short version I would suggest reading up in multiple places on this and understand the safety involved particularly if you are doing larger runs. Understand the flammability of your solvent if something did happen how would you put it out, how heavy the gas is, etc this can be safe if done with the proper precautions taken. It can be very ugly if you dont.....

Glass nails usually have good taste but warp under the torch if overheated and will eventually break. Ti is the way to go for the long hauls and quartz most people say tastes better then Ti but can break also.

Could anyone identify the piece in this video? Obviously I don't mean the pipe cause that's in the title haha. It resembles my friend's Boro Farm periscope, but that holds a nail and that's not the case in the video.

Sorry if I'm going off relevant discussion, but the replies are definitely going in the right direction as far as I can tell (no misinformation at least!)

forgot the video link sorry!

If it looks like a perasope its prolly a bellybutton... Basically look and function the same though

I don't think that's it either as those require a nail as well! or the Hitman one I've seen does at least. This is something different entirely, the dab went directly on the glass

sorry, i just got the video to show up, i didnt see it before. It kinda looks like a cross between a bellybutton and a quartz puddle cup... but the puddle cup is on a lil swivel thing and rotates, actually i know a guy who is wanting something just like that!

I just wonder if the cup is quartz or glass... some kind of oil burner for sure though

Yeah that was my bad I edited it in to my post after realizing I forgot to include it the first time! And I might be wrong but isn't what you described called a "honey pot"? It's like a dome with a puddle cup swivel. I definitely want this thing if I can find it anywhere though. Curious whether it's boro or not myself

Cant speak about the actual rig, but as for the dabl going on the glass that's just a different set up. Ive seen a lot of those domeless setups. Normally they plug into a female joint so they cut outthe need for extras like a converter and a dome. There is a bunch of different types, MANY glass blowers make them and there is a variety of looks for them even though the function is normally about the same. You heat the bottompart and above that onthe side is the hole youre drawing it into. Everytime ive seen one for sale on line the blowers always say that they came up with a great new idea that replaces the need for domes. A lot of the others ive seen have a slot to put a nail of your. Choice in, but some are all one piece like in the vid.

I just haven't seen dabbing onto anything glass that is not a nail! I've seen lots of domeless setups, just very few that are all glass like this. I know they make variations with a nail slot, but I want to eliminate that because it's not really an improvement over my domeless Ti.. Care to drop any well-known glassblowing names working on designs like this? I'm going to talk to some local guys if no one is already producing them, I have to have this

Well known I cant speak to, ive seen my most used glass blower liciousglass on artfire had a couple but I think the only one he has up now is part of a package. Ive seen three glassblowers on etsy have them for sale, but glass blowers come and go on etsy like crazy. I'm pretty sure iv sen oilconnection have them on etsy, but there page is blank now... just checked couldn't find any. But like a year ago they where more on the seen. Maybe they didn't sell well? Ive also seen glass and quartz ones that are able to spin so there more like a swing, spin it under the hole after heating.

I only asked for well-known names because I figured it would probably be the easiest way to acquire this piece, but I'm quickly rethinking that haha

I'm gonna do a thorough ioffer, etsy, and artfire look-through and then if no luck maybe I'll find someone willing to take requests!
