Why did carb holes go out of fashion?

Haha, I'm not hatin', out of curiosity though, do you just prefer carb holes, or is there a certain style of piece you think needs them for best functionality?

I have yet to see a piece with a carb hole where it seemed that it would be more useful than just not having it...

I hated carbs because of all the smoke that would be left in the downstem. The spilling, stinky thumbs, and awkward holding positions were annoying, but it was all that wasted smoke that would send me reaching for the stopper.

carbs needed to be stationed low on the tube to get correct clearing. 'I do know that much'. lol

I like the one-handed action that bongs with no carb-holes provide, as I used to hit my bong laying on the couch with the piece on the floor, when I still burned the herb.
