Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud

Wow, I don't know how I feel about that situation HighSigh. If it was a faulty unit to begin with and broke because it was not made right, I would be pretty upset about them not honoring the warranty. I totally understand if it fell, or if water got in, and broke it why it would not be covered. Just a real grey area. Sorry for your loss in any case.

jambandphan03,
Hello everybody! I just joined because I've been doing a lot of research and I quickly came across the Cloud!
I am a daily vape user, and I normally use a Da Buddha Vaporizer. The DBV is most definitely amazing, and has never failed me! However, I've been wanting to try something a little better, so I was thinking a Silver Surfer or Life Saber. But now that I've discovered the Cloud I think I'm leaning towards it. I just have a quick question about this new 'Devastator' that's about to be released.
The 'Devastator' will be fully compatible with the Cloud right? Or am I totally wrong on this.
Is there any benefit of using a Cloud in a separate piece rather than a HT? Or is it just a preference?

Any word of a bundle package with the Cloud and Devastator for a good price? Cause I'd be one of the first orders!
I'm sorta bummed I missed out on the previously discounted prices of the Cloud w/ HT...lol

Having the water below the vape instead of above it makes it a bit less safe*, specifically using it with newbies.

High Sigh. From what I can gather at this point, the math just doesn't add up. I believe you. It really seems as though, VXL isn't being as clear as possible, pertaining the repair/production of the bamboo/heater.

They say, the bamboo is fused to the heater, and cannot be replaced/repaired.

You have a cloud, with a removable bamboo, that functions fine(ish.)

The way I see it, and once again, totally blind stab in the dark...The Cloud seems to be more repairable then VXL lets on.

The thing about all this that makes me un-easy, is that if High Sigh had reported the condition of his Cloud to VXL upon receiving it, explaining that the bamboo is totally free of any 'fusing' to the heater, and can be removed, and re-inserted, without further damaging the vape, they might have replaced it under warranty.

I hate to make accusations, but I don't feel like I(we) are getting the whole story/truth from either VXL or High Sigh. Maybe one, maybe both, but between what they've both said, things don't add up.

I really don't like being the wrench in the spokes or whatever, but someones gotta say something.

Im not trying to oppose what VXL says about it being "fused", but mine sure as day isnt fused anymore, although it might have been at the time. It seems it still works fine and I will try to send it to a glassblower for joint repair, then figure out a way to secure the tube. Its not easy to repair the right way, but it may be possible to get a somewhat working cloud by securing it via the outside.

Guys, While We feel for your situation @HighSigh, your unit was not faulty. The break was caused by it being knocked over, the play of the bamboo, as I have stated before is as designed.

It is mechanically impossible for his cloud to work if the heater was not fused to the glass from the get go.

Why exactly does it HAVE to be connected? Does it conduct heat into the glass bamboo tube? Is that how the heat is transferred to the herb?

Ok ok ok. i jumped in. got the swagger double. wtf. crossing my fingers this isnt going to be a regret. i get that there are more cloud owners without problems than with, but looking at forums for other vapes, it seems like there are more issues reported here about the cloud. but... we'll see. im in canada too so its going to potentially disappointing to have shell out another 15% for customs. hope that doesnt happen.

I'll stick my unfrozen caveman neck out and state that you won't regret it. Especially if you dig large, thick and tasty pulls of tasty vapor that are thick and tasty. Did I mention the vapor is thick and tasty?

Anywho - well done!

Edit: I just used said Cloud (if you hadn't gathered that already). :freak:

No, someone does not have to say something--especially since you have no real information other than a few posts here. From that you conclude that one or both parties are lying. That's a leap you shouldn't take because you have nothing to justify it other than your interpretation of what's been said. This is the sort of opinion best kept to yourself.

Im sorry troi but I just dont believe you.. My glass tube would slide about two inches up before it was ever broken. Keep in mind this cloud is not even 30 days old. The reason I dont believe you is because it was obviously not fused when it moved that far and by my eyes and clouds (not saying it wasnt fused from the start, but it doesnt make since that it would break with the pressure of inserting the bowl that it REQUIRES), it was veryy obvious that it was working, so its not "mechanically impossible". For clarification Troi, I am not saying that the break isnt from being snapped, but the fact that you are blaming me for a shitty cloud, just pisses me off. Im done with this thread, cya guys in the Da Buddha thread.
Edit: If anyone wants pics for the proof, PM
Another edit: at close examination, it seems that the "bamboo" was just glued to a piece of foam above the actual heater, not at the point where the heater is suppossed to be "fused". I just dont understand how they say it cant be fixed. Its very obvious it was originally attached with an adhesive, so why cant you just slide a new one in there, dab some more glue on top, then slide it into place for it to set. I guess its just way easier to send me another paypal invoice for $400.

I didnt wanna make vapexhale mad at me by posting their design, but I guess that really doesnt matter since its a mutual hatred.. Ill try to post pix now, but will have up by tonight at the latest

I say post pics of the guts of the cloud as deep as you can go. i have a solo and i disassembled it and posted detailed pics of the inside. i would plan to do the same for the cloud once its out of warranty. you own it. its yours.

From what has been said, and i am only guessing here, that the bamboo is bonded to the heater and the whole assembly it sounds like floats using foam. vapexhale said that the floating assembly is important because if it was too rigid the bamboo could break from the torque off the glass piece attached to it.

It sounds to me like they rely on the bamboo/heater assembly to be bonded to foam, likely on each end, to provide some "give" so that the glass doesn't snap. this would explain why if a bamboo assmebly moves around a lot, its still ok as long as the bond between it and the heater doesn't break. also i would gather that the bamboo/heater assembly has some mass to it and it would be possible that it could break look from the foam, from use and perhaps from shipping.

This brings to mind things like flat bed scanners or laser printers: those of you who have purchased these things know you have to usually remove a lot of parts that otherwise secure parts of the product that could move in shipping. i remember back in the old scanner days they typically had a screw you had to remove that would otherwise secure the scan head so it wouldn't move during shipping. Seems like the cloud could benefit from something like this for the bamboo/heater assembly.

So, if this is all true, then the bamboo coming loose from the foam is a different issue than broken glass. if the assembly comes loose from the foam it could still otherwise work fine. however it means that now the bamboo is not secured and so it could get banged around such that it could break, and/or the heater could come unfused from the bamboo. if your bamboo is loose then just be real careful with it. and knowing that likely the assembly is just secured by adhesion to foam, you should also be careful with it in general. i would assume that undue pressure on the outlet could move the assembly enough to break it free from the foam.

Sounds like the cloud is somewhat fragile. but most vapes are especially those that use glass. i understand the design issues here, how to provide a robust floating heater assembly. again i am making assumptions about the design here as i have never seen one disassembled, basing this on what has been posted. using foam in this manner is not a very good design, frankly especially if its the only thing holding the bamboo in place. however its the obvious and cheapest way to do it. suspending the assembly by springs would be better or having it "float" viscous silicone cylinders is another way to do it that would be more mechanically robust. however manufacturing something like this would be prohibitively expensive.

In conclusion, the foam based floating mechanism is and passable solution mechanically but an ideal solution from a cost perspective. if this is indeed the manner in which the bamboo floats, it means you have to be very careful with it because you could tear the bamboo assembly away from the foam with enough force. so be careful!

...I kid of course; and I think you are dead on in your interpretation of the situation. Until we see the pictures he has supposedly made we have no real way of knowing if he has any proof at all. I'll hold my judgement till then but the view from here makes things look pretty obvious.

I just wanted to quickly jump in here and give my 2 cents. Given my experience working at VRIPtech prior to VapeXhale, when someone broke their glass heater, there was no return or exchange policy whatsoever. Because of that, we tried to make the Cloud as durable as possible while still having an all glass pass through.

Early on, we gave every customer the benefit of the doubt when they broke a piece of glass or something happened to their unit. We've sent replacement units out without receiving the Cloud first, some customers never even sent their broken Cloud back. We could publicly go on the forum and list names but as a company, we decided to take the high road.

We take a huge risk anytime someone sends us a replacement unit that has had meds run through it. It is frustrating when I read these posts and the posts don't line up with the support ticket that we received. If all these details were in the support ticket to begin with, I would have a much easier time issuing a replacement but when the story changes with each post, then I start getting the feeling that the forum is once again being used as a mechanism to ensure that we make things right at our expense or incur the wrath of the forum members.

We've made the mistake of making exceptions for many, many folks and now, I feel like these exceptions are being made into the rule. With the glass, we've always said, inspect it right away and if you find something wrong, we will replace it immediately. When someone has a unit for weeks on end and then something just magically happens to the glass, we are put in a really difficult situation where we have no way of proving or disproving what happened. We have a policy that we must be notified within 24 hours if you have any glass issues but since we've let some customers slide, this is what we have to deal with. Because of this, now the rule is black and white with no exceptions.

I hate having to even write these posts because given our track record, I feel that if anything, we've more than proved that we are a customer centric company. If one person is pissed off because they didn't get their way, then that is something we will have to just deal with as our company scales. If you notice, non the "big boys" (Volcano, 7th Floor, Arizer) even have a presence on the forum. They had warned me that it becomes more trouble than it is worth but I had always thought otherwise. Today is the first day where I began to think that I should heed their advice.

I hate being a downer but I had to voice my opinion on this but I will leave you with this.... Devastator video coming later on today. Stay tuned.

It sounds to me like *maybe* the heater assembly (including the bamboo) came loose from the foam that it is adhered to either from shipping jostling or user error. then it sounds like perhaps the unsupported assembly got knocked around and broke and/or the heater came apart from the bamboo, likely from user error. it doesn't sound like the latter was was shipping because the unit was working indicating that the heater and bamboo were at one point fused together. sounds like the final breakage was user error.

Be careful with your Clouds - sounds like the floating heater assembly is a weak point.

@stonemonkey just read your post. no worries. i just ordered a cloud and understand all the policies. i emailed after i ordered last night asking if you guys could inspect my cloud before it goes out because being in canada its a lot more effort and cost to make a return.

I am not saying the cloud is poorly designed - not at all. in fact the reason i just shelled out almost $700 for it is because I believe that you have put a lot of effort into the design and manufacture of it. but, like all things, its not going to be bullet proof.

Most people are going to be careful with their expensive things. some people won't be and try and do what they can to get a free replacement. as a new business you have to create policies that generally work but will exclude some circumstances. warranty claims are sometimes cut and dry, either way but in some cases it may not be possible to say. the bottom line is, it's your call - it's your company.

Like I said, be careful with your Cloud. its a fragile piece of equipment. I don't even have one and that was immediately apparent to me from the get-go. In fact, one major decision factor was its fragility - unlike other vapes out there which are more robust just because they are a completely different design (eg. MFLB). but with all that glass, ground connections, the mechanical challenges of bonding the heater to the glass air intake, floating the assembly to absorb stress in typical use, these are all going to present compromises to the robustness of the product. I seems like Vapexhale has put a lot of thought and research and testing into their design decisions. but this still makes for a fragile product. that's fine, as a customer it would be really strange if you thought you could bang the cloud around and it would be fine. be careful.

Today is the first day where I began to think that I should heed their advice.

You know, this was exactly the thing I was worried about when this whole guffaw started...

There are a lot of good reasons for a manufacturer to want to take the path of least resistance. And because of that, I've always respected VXH for staying on the forum, even when I did not own or even think it was in the future for me to own one of the clouds. Perhaps I'm an odd man out here but the fact that you guys stayed on the forum through development, launch and sale of your vaporizer puts your company on a level above any other vapor company around.

I'm sorry that there are those who are trying to turn that against you, but I think that the reaction of the community to the situation is indicative of the strong respect many hold for your company. I hope that you decide to continue your presence here, but understand if you don't.

StoneMonkey55, I completely agree with you. I actually love that I you guys are on the forum, I feel its even a better way to talk to you guys than the email and the phone call, because a bunch of people can see it at once.

I know that you come and read the forums all the time, cause I've seen you like a bunch of my posts. I really really really really appreciate that, that the man who runs the company I love the most currently, reads my posts. Steve Jobs, and company would never "like" any of my posts.

My bitching about the 2 day wait for a call back or email, is nothing than just me being anxiety ridden about my return. Knowing that the Cloud is fragile, and traveling all the way across the country makes me nervous. I'll never forget taking it out the first time and fully inspecting it. Had anything been wrong, including sliding of the joint, I would have immediately sent in a ticket, etc.

So I implore you, please don't leave the forums.

Oh and I am so fucking pumped about that Devastator video. Been waiting weeks for that video :-)

@High Sigh - I'm sorry, your story changed a bunch of times. I have a hard time believing it. Needless to say, the tube was never able to fully come out like you admitted. They admitted slight play with the bamboo. You knocked it over, broken. Even if the bamboo didn't slide, your knock over would probably still have broke the bamboo.

I'm still waiting on my tracking number for my return I can't wait to get my Cloud back. I miss it oh so much.

I TOTALLY agree with this sentiment! It's a shame that things like this can't be avoided. I am very sure that the majority of Cloud users and owners feel that SM and team are making a tremendous effort towards keeping their customers happy. It's why I tend to like animals better than peeps.

You can try to use your credentials to try to call me a liar, but in fact I never changed my story, I simply claimed that it had a small amount of play at first then progressively got looser. So I guess we can say its all three doors buddy.
Also, @ stonemonkeys post, the reason I didmt send it back at first id because I was told on here that it must have play to function, but I now see that this isnt the same play that it shiuld have.
