Herborizer corner

I recently purchased an Herborizer XL 14.5mm, and when I try to plug it in to heat it up, the connection between the heating element and the dial short circuits, melting the plastic. If I angle the connection between the injector and the dial in a certain way I can get the heating element to actually heat up, but it's a pain to do. I had both of the parts replaced, but I am having the same problem. Is this a common issue with Herborizers?

Ok. I didn't get an alert to this thread until now, hopefully you come back and check.
I just took some pics with my phone to try to explain this. There is a bent pin inside the injector side (female) of the plug, the outer connection. Most plugs like this have a flat piece of metal but these diy ends on the herborizer have a small round bent pin. Unplug your injector from the box with the knob and look in the end. Does it look like the pin is bent so that it connects correctly or is there a possibility it is shorting out with the center pin?

bYzvR.jpg

Now if you are unable to get the pin realigned you can fix this yourself fairly easily. Sebastian will gladly send you ends if you let him know you are having a problem, or you can probably find a better one if you look online or locally. He sent my friend a pack of five and I got one of those from him. I have removed my end twice now to pull the heater out and soak the glass. All you have to do is unscrew the plastic cover and desolder the wires from the connector. I also remember having to cut off the old heatshrink and reapply it. Next time I clean it I will replace my end for the first time. The melt on my connector is because my bong is stemless and the injector sits straight up and the cord sometimes rests on it if I am not paying attention.

edit: Almost forgot. If you do solder it, do it on HOT and do it fast. The last time I did mine the plastic that separates the outer part from the center pin melted a little and the center pin is misaligned and it is harder to unplug. Do not let the plug warm up, and I would suggest letting it cool down in between doing the center and outer connections.

Just noticed you said both parts have been replaced. Maybe be more gentle unlplugging that connection or don't disconnect it at that point. Also as I said, maybe find a more sturdy connector and replace it. I have never had that problem with mine. Once I thought it wasn't heating up and someone here suggested that may be the problem. I checked my pin and bent it out a little more. Haven't had a problem since and it's been about 3 years.

I just wanted to add my love for my Herborizer to this thread. I just added it to my collection because I wanted an all glass vape that didn't require the active handling of the Vriptech (which my stoned ass already broke once). I have not been disappointed. While I think the vapor coming from the Vriptech is somewhat superior, the Herborizer is much easier to use and seemingly more durable (plus the vapor is still light years ahead of the rest of the competition). I have used it a handful of times now, and already have some amazing resin buildup right at the waterline. This thing is great, and it has taken up permanent residence in the cabin of my boat for the summer. If anybody is considering this vape but is hesitant because of the price, I would encourage them to bite the bullet and pay up. You will not be disappointed at all. The flavor of this vape is so great, and it produces an awesome cloud.

Hey man, wow old post but I know you owned the VXC too and was wondering if you can compare it to the Herbo? I already seen the VXC vs VHW comprehensive post/comparison and ruled the VHW out, but i'm at a toss up between VXC and the Herbo XL. Sorry to hear about your VXC getting water in it and dying, ouch.

Hey guys,

I'm very tempted by the Herborizer. I currently have the SSV and the MFLB. The SSV is what I use 99.9% of time..and I am happy with the results I have always gotten from it... it has really only been recently that I have gotten what I consider really good results from the MFLB. I was having issues of the launch box, burning the herb, even though finely grounded etc... anyway, I am wanting to get back to glass bongs... so I am looking for the best option for GonG bongs. I am considering the LSV but the Herborizer looks on paper like a perfect fit. Is it too good to be true? I am a stickler about NOT getting the flower too dark.. my SSV vaped matter is a very light brown... I don't like to get soo close to combustion. How flexible is the Herbo in that regard? I also have read things on here about cracking etc. Some of these pots are older so wasn't sure what the current verdict on the Herbo is.. it sure looks intriguing to me though..
thanks for any info on this guys...

Have you tried vaporbonging with your SSV? Just throw a WPA on the whip and go to town. Even better would be a hands free setup with the GG wand.

You don't "need" a wand vaporizer to have great vaporbong sessions IMO.

I've ordered the WPA for the SSV and am sure it will be great. I do, however, want to get rid of the whip aspect of the set up. I am looking for a total glass on glass experience... or at least no silicone/plastics etc.

I would have thought there would have been some guys on this forum with the Herborizer. It is really hard to find anything definitive on this piece to justify the 365 price tag. I have read guys on here talk about wiring issues and even taste issues. I am very intrigued by this vape but would like to hear a bit more about it...

spacelooper,
I can't get why this thread is dead and others get so much more action...

For me the herborizer is one of the best vaporizers out there! i got my xl system exactly six days ago and i'm so freakin happy about it, it's unbelievable :D i really love my VHW but in the past days i learned that i actually prefer the herbo, for me it's like this:

-herbo is a great design, it's small and elegant :)

-taste is really good (9 out of 10) and the best thing about it: the taste lasts! i can get over ten hits of just the right size with plenty of visible vapor that really taste like the strain (not generic vaped weed taste or even worse popcorn taste). The same amount of herb would give me 3 maybe 4 tasty hits with the vhw.

-it is very efficient in the sense that I think it gets a high % of the cannabinoids extracted, oth the bowl is quite big and you need 0,1+g for one session

-free hands. i can't stress how much i enjoy this benefit, with the herbo i can lay back and just vape for as long as i like. The vhw sessions always were too short and too stiff for my liking - they got me super wasted but always would leave me craving another hit of thick, tasty vapor. with the herbo i vape until my throat start getting too dry and i don't want any more vapor.

-the smell issue: yes there is a noticeable bad smell when turning it on for the first time. After letting it burn in for 30-40 minutes on the highest setting the smell was basically gone. The first bowl had a really slight trace of this smell in the taste but hardly detectable and with the second bowl it already tasted completely neutral like i expected. I noticed the smell one or two more days when turning it on but only very faint and by now it is completely gone - i really wouldn't worry about it, to me it seemed very normal and certainly not toxic or anything, just the steel and the silicone heating up for the first time.

-the broken injectors: sebastien seems to have figured out a way to avoid this issue permanently. He just added a small glass bead to keep the heating element at distance from the glass cover - seems to work as far as i can tell.

Overall i'm really happy with my herbo and have not one second regreted my decision to get it.

Something i'd like to see in the future is a smaller bowl. already am thinking about having one custom made :D but would be great for any herbo owner i think...

here's a pic of my setup:

it's so smooth and tasty! :)

SoulCaptivesAreFree,
Can anybody compare this to the Cloud in terms of usability and effectiveness? My friend has a Cloud and I don't know why, but that thing seems to get you flying high more than any other vape I have tried. I have no idea why that is, but I have experienced it first-hand. On the other hand, $500+ is pretty stout. I note I can get the basic XL unit here for about $330, and I already have several pieces of glass to use.

So can anybody offer a comparison?

Oh and ... VHW = Vriptech Heat Wand?

TheDudeNextDoor,
Yeah, VHW = Vriptech Heat Wand :)

Sorry can't compare it to the VXC, as i'm in europe and we still have to wait for the international version of the cloud to be released... But i can tell you that i bought the herbo only after reading that the international version of the cloud will not be out by christmas: so i bought the herbo to hold me over the waiting time... now, today i'm not sure i'll buy the cloud as soon as it comes out... i'm just so satisfied with the herbo i don't see me needing another home-unit besides it!

The sessions with my herbo are so freakin amazing, the taste lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts, and wait is there still coming vapor? oh yes it is, and a nice cloud too! but it's at least the 20th pull i made? and i put in like 0,1g?

Amazing! simply amazing! :)

After getting very high after what seemed an awful lot of hits from 1 small bowl I decided to see just how efficient it was and measured out 0.2 grams of well cured ground bud and started noting how many good hits I got, 27 hits later and this is the result;
IMG_1038.jpg

As you can see there's still a bit left which I like to leave for extraction
I'm totally blown away with the size of the hits you can get from this, how many you get and also the taste never seems to turn to a burnt popcorn taste that I've noticed with other vapes.
I'll probably add to this review when I get around to trying it on my tubes.

I always thought you were exaggerating a little with the 27 hits :D but i see you were just telling it as it is :)

nothing seems secure, none of the prices are in $$$.
are there any good vids? i jumped in around page 14.

Green goes to brown, n that's what I stand for.
Id consider getting this thing as it truely is scientific beyond the norm and whoever said it looks like an alchemical piece of equiptment is on point! Just seems like problems with it are fairly common... and the cheapest package is around 500 correct?

Cereal_MF,
ghost: no idea about their webpage, i ordered from a retailer... you should find a couple of vids on youtube, and on page 10 in this thread there is a nice gif of the combo peyote pillar + herborizer ;)

cereal: yeah i really dig the design, i find myself staring at my pipe+herbo a lot when blazed :D i don't think faulty units are that big of a concern... the issue of the broken injectors seems solved and even if there is a problem - i think the way sebastien handled the broken injectors shows that he stands behind his product :)

don't know about prices in the US but in europe it's 160 euro for the basic kit and 260 for the xl...

phew that took too long to write that post :D i guess i'm higher than anticipated :D

Cereal_MF,
hehe... nope - not my style :D

and that post took me like half an hour even on my laptop... just too high and too tired (my daughter woke me at 3:30 am and it's now 10 pm) and also english is a second language for me which doesn't make it any easier ;)

but to not be completely off topic: time to load another one!

set herbo on 5,5, grind some jack flash, load up and

enjoy!

It's been a while now since I've been around here :) But I'm glad our Herbo is receiving more love, although less than deserved, but who cares. It's 1,5 years now, and it is still my everyday vape, I hardly use my MFLB anymore, that's a bit sad since I really love its design and philosophy, but while @ home, there's nothing better than sitting on my couch and enjoy my cloudy herbo...even in its basic form it's so efficient and satisfying. I'm thinking about buying some extra glass, cause I like to play around different shapes and draws. Peace, Herbo-fellas!

Nobody would ever know. You write better than some members we get who speak only English (hopefully they speak it better than they write it ;) )

Smokey: Good to see you back on the thread! and great to hear you're still happy with your herbo! Have you ever had the chance to try the xl-model to compare? would love to know which position on the xl-scale corresponds to the temperature of the basic... if it's anywhere near 5,5 (or more accurate: 5,66) i wouldn't really need the xl - though it's nice to be able to adjust temp for hash or strains that have a different sweet spot...

I'm sorry but I've never had the chance to try the XL model...although if one day my basic will die (hope not) I for sure get the XL, because of the extra options you get, like you said.

i found the manual for the herborizer xl online:

azarius.net/media/manuals/manual-herborizer-xl-vaporizer.pdf

so the basic model runs on what is 6 on xl version... that is spot on for me. i started out at 5.5 and continously climbed up to what would be 5.8 or 5.9, but 6 is just fine too ;)

here's the temperature scale of the herbo manual:

1 – 90°c
2 – 110°c
3 – 130°c
4 – 150°c
5 – 180°c
6 – 190°c
7 – 200°c
8 – 210°c
9 – 220°c
10 –230°c

ok now back to the pipe, got a silver pearl + destroyer blend in the bowl - should send me into the realms of the dreams soon :D

Finally got a Herborizer XL kit back in my hands, after a couple of years without one (I have an XL sphere since 2010, but its in storage on another continent)

Damn!!! The Herborizer is just as amazing as ever. I thought maybe after a few years it wouldn't be as good as I remembered, my tastes have matured, that other vapes have caught up, but no. The vapor from the Herborizer is incredibly flavorful, thick and smooth. As others have said, the flavour also lasts noticeably longer than most other vapes.

I've currently using it with a small Lux bubbler, which is a beautiful compact setup. I can comfortably hold it by hand while sitting on the couch etc.

Heres a quick photo. Watch out for a Herborizer/Lux video from me soon.

cool setup bleak! bet that's really tasty :)

any news regarding your steak bubbler yet? i'm very curious to see how it turns out - i remember steak from another canna forum where he used to make oil domes for some members... even wrote him asking about a custom piece when i read about your bubbler but never heard back from him :/

have fun reacquainting yourself with the herbo!

good vibes

Steak let me know he is quite busy, the custom glass is something he does on the side, its not his main job at this stage. Plus, my bubbler had some design elements that need to be tested first, for example the way I joined the showehead to the base. I'm not in a hurry, so I told him to take his time, and he'll get back to me when he is ready.
