That's my take as well. I bought the Pax because for me, it's a great vape to use when out of the house, though I've spend many nights at home using it.

I'm also looking at an SSV for home.

I had an SSV for 2 years and started noticing sharp chest pains. I eventually noticed that the casing on the ceramic had cracked. Since then, I've stopped using any vapes that have no covering over the ceramic. It was one of the reasons I really liked the Stainless Steel cover on the Pax (although that has been returned). Just something to keep an eye on.

Given the apparently very low voltage charge that is trying to travel between these components, it doesn't take much to interrupt the flow. I'm not so sure that the resin itself, being an insulating oil, doesn't insulate the parts from conducting a current. Given that, I think that people cleaning with low test Iso, or insufficiently cleaning, may be leaving some resin behind.

In my experience, the 99% works WORLDS better than 70%, for example. Also, vaping some real strong resinous herbs will cause a faster buildup

Can we say that the Pax is the best portable vaporizer currently on the market ?

I certainly wouldn't say that. I have no trouble with myPax and I Ike it a lot and it is very pretty and stealthy, BUT, I lie my Inhalater a lot better as it is easier to use, hasthe ability to preload as many capsules as you chooses buy, is far easier to maintain, and heats faster. Also my Solo has an all glass path and taste better, can be used while charging with an extra cost adapter, and has a long history of good service. Also my Puffit is more stealthy. All these considered I don't agree with your statement. Sorry.

I have seen absolutely no combustion in my Pax, it just gets the material a nice dark brown, no char, no black, no combustion. It is IMO a true vape.

I've noticed a lot of new pax users here lately that probably haven't read the whole thread, and I don't blame them since it's already 163 pages long, but something that hasn't been mentioned in a long time that might help some new users is DO NOT put a hot pax on the charger right away. Warm resin will flow down the vapor path and gum up the mouth piece area causing some of the common problems people are having. Wait til it cools down first, or charge your pax upright. I've noticed my pax battery is warm too after charging, so maybe it's a good idea to just charge it upright all the time, although I doubt it gets warm enough to get the resin flowing. Hope this helps the new pax users out there.

Seems like a pretty good tip! Especially for those users who employ Pax as their daily driver...

Is it certain that the Pax is a vaporizer ? I mean by that : there is no combustion ?

Hey Dr. Nick, everyone contributes in their own way, but it's a little hard to contextualize some of your questions. My advice is that rather than pose a series of one-line posts, join the party! Introduce yourself in any way that makes you comfortable, and participate in the *dialogue.* I don't mean to tell you what to do (and I'm not trying to play mod!!), just suggesting that you'll get better answers if it seems like you're part of the conversation. (I think you said you're French--no worries, this is a truly international forum.) There are lots of great folks out here ready to help out with the Pax and other vapes.

That said, the Pax is clearly a vaporizer; no combustion.

Yeah. This may have been part of what hit me as well. Since Lithium batteries like frequent top-up, I tended to use it off the charger then put it back.

Back for the first time since about a week after the Pax dropped on the market when I made some brief postings to characterize my experience as an early adopter. I am now about 2 months in and am currently sitting in bed using my Pax to help me sleep tonight. I am overwhelmed at how stealthy, vapor proficient and effective the unit is as a mobile unit. I have noticed that a session on High will make your product taste significanly worse faster and will make your session much quicker. I usually use the LOW setting in the morning to get my day rolling or sometimes Medium. I try to avoid High in the mornings because I end up feeling the high all day long. These days include me commuting 30 miles to class and being in class for at least 5 hours a day on top of a secondary commute back home. It may not be a drastic as I am projecting but I definitely feel it the entire day in one sense or another. Some may criticize these statements and say things like "Oh, he is new to vaporizing" or "That's not possible for me because I have been using MMJ for so long". I have been smoking for the past 5.5 years just about consistently (with several couple week long vacations spread throughout there). I first tried vaporizing out of a friend's Apex volcano knockoff 2.5 years ago but just now recently made the switch to just about pure vaporizing. I have also extensively used the actual Volcano and to tell you the truth I found no difference between the knock off and the real one except maybe the quality of the fan. I guess that is what you pay for but in the long run it makes no real difference, the effects are exactly the same and he paid so little for a digital knock off. I just feel obliged to Ploom as well as my Pax itself to express my feelings towards this product thus far as well as Ploom as the have done nothing but provide top notch customer service. I originally began writing this just to make a statement that I started having trouble with my replacement mouth piece getting stuck and not tripping the heat change sensor. I read further back in the forum that someone replaced their new one with the old one and it worked flawlessly for them. I tried that as well probably last weekend and I have had no problems with the original whereas with the replacement I started having the same issue again about 2.5 weeks after receiving the replacement. I don't clean everyday but I do clean it at least once every two days or three, depending on how often I am using it. That being said I take good care of it and I do use it quite alot. Quite alot for me entails about 20 minutes in the morning with it on a fresh charge and then until it gets red at the end of the night; not red like it won't turn on red just red indicator saying it will run out soon. I got lost in my own mind while using the Pax and went off on that rant but am glad I did.

Over all I am very happy with my Pax. I enjoy using it, and have been really appreciating it on the low setting. I still get hypnotized by the pulsing LED while it's heating  I've been using the newer mouthpiece and not experiencing any new problems (yet) so I am just going to keep using it until something changes, see how long it takes for things to build up in there. I do the usual wipe out cleaning every few days, but not the ISO cleaning, unless it starts doing the temp thing again. I have not had a stuck mouthpiece yet either. Maybe my herbs are not as sticky as other peoples.

I'm using an inverter. How did you go about making a car charger?

went to radio shack and got a 9 volt car charger and an H tip (3.1mm). but the cobra radar detector cord recommended works better and cheaper from the looks of it.

I got my Pax last Thursday from VW, it has had heavy usage since. I've learned 3 things:
1. Some devices (mine) have a chronic "temp light" issue that has nothing to do with cleanliness of the device or resin buildup
2. Ploom is doing what they can to take care of those affected
3. The Pax is so effective its ridiculous. Seriously, this thing could squeeze water from rocks. The high setting really does not hold back, but also gives me no concerns about potential compustion. In fact all 3 settings seem perfectly calibrated, and where I would want them if I had designed it myself.

... DO NOT put a hot pax on the charger right away. Warm resin will flow down the vapor path and gum up the mouth piece area causing some of the common problems people are having. Wait til it cools down first, or charge your pax upright.
This is excellent advice. I might add, regularly charging your Pax while it is hot will also probably shorten the battery's lifespan. Batteries don't like being charged while hot.

I got my Pax a few days ago and absolutely love it. Unfortunately I dropped it from about 4 feet up onto my kitchen(linoleum) floor. The oven burst open and my freshly packed load of heaven went spraying everywhere. On the plus side there appears to be no functional or aesthetic damage to the Pax.

I have been reading this thread, trying to catch up, but I was wondering if people had found the perfect pipe cleaners/dental brushes to clean this beast? I am almost out and I want to get something really good(that doesn't shed) to clean it. Thanks for any input.

Just got my mini vapetool in the mail, this thing was made for Pax, the shape and size is perfect. Best 4.95 I have spent in a while.

Ya just pick up some of the stiffest Zen pipe cleaners. I posted an amazon link to someone back on some page so just browse my posts, there aren't that many. You can buy a whole bunch of them off amazon for relatively low money.

Ok, just got off the phone with VapeWorld. They believe I have a faulty mouthpiece so they are going to ship me a new one. I would absolutely love it if I had a faulty mouthpiece and not a faulty unit.

So I'll wait till I get that next week, and see what's up. I think my orange light situation happened because it was cycling between heating and non-heating too quickly. But I hope I don't have that issue again. I only experienced that once, and when it was hard to get the unit to consistently heat.

VapeWorld provided excellent customer service via the phone. Loved it. Can't wait to see if it's my mouthpiece of my unit. My mouthpiece does wiggle a lot in the unit.

I have dropped mine twice now, once on the carpet and once on the hardwood floor. The outcome was the same both times: no damage whatsoever to the Pax but the oven lid popped off and the load went everywhere. I don't see how you can prevent this given the design. The only defense is not to drop your Pax; however, in my opinion this isn't a serious flaw. All sorts of nasty things can happen when you drop your vapourizer, at least most of them. Sure, you can drive a truck over a Thermovape, but not many people choose a vapourizer based on how well it survives a drop.

Still waiting for my replacement Pax.
Using the loaner I have, I did find an interesting technique... and shared it with the guys at VapeWorld...
Ready?
TIP:
Once your load is going well, and warm...
to get yourself a bit of air flow for a thick hit-
reach around to the oven door with your pinky finger, and lightly lean that finger on either end of that oven door.... NOT enough to open it, just a touch, and you will notice air flow is doubled.
it will only go well for a couple of hits, and will then cool the oven a tiny bit too fast unless you have the unit on high.
(My apologies if someone already discovered and reported this... if I missed it!)

Interesting Vito, I do almost the exact opposite to get a more "concentrated" hit. Sometimes I cup my hand around the oven end to act as an insulator (avoiding the lid when its hot) to make it heat up more/faster and reduce the airflow, which sometimes seems to give a bigger hit (maybe just in my mind), but you can feel the airflow around your palm and the increase in heat. I don't have any problems with the pax airflow and I've run over an oz of hash through it already mixed in with bud, since mid August. I usually use medium temp setting and kick it to high for the last few hits.

The bottom line is you just have to keep it very clean, especially in the area where the top inner tube meets the mouthpiece. I wipe it down when hot after every few uses with just a rolled up piece of paper towel and have virtually no issues. I let it cool and make sure its clear of vapor before putting it on the charger. When I'm lazy about cleaning and it gets gummed up the mouthpiece will move slower or it will show the temp setting when it should be heating. I can always hold down the mouthpiece slightly to make the connection and it will begin to heat and by the time its warm it functions fine again, just needs the resin cleaned out around the top.

If you think the airflow is too rescricted make sure there is enough space between the screen and the vapor path underneath it in the oven, I have my screen set in at an angle so the side with the hole is higher to allow more airflow. When I thought the airflow was suffering the screen was just too close to the hole and it was getting resin buildup. Just make sure your screen isn't jammed in too far and restricting the flow.

I contacted ploom's online chat about the new mouthpiece design and after telling me to clean clean clean and then clean some more they supposedly shipped me a new mouthpiece, so I will see if I notice any difference when it arrives. I was very pleased with the customer service so far and it seems like the cleaning is the #1 problem for the pax, people think its faulty when it needs to be cleaned. I understand there are also some DOA/faulty units straight out of the box and that is unfortunate but ploom has excellent customer service and when you have a properly functioning pax in your hands you will forget all about it.

Overall I've had it since mid August and I still love my pax and feel that it is the best portable on the market for my needs. Customer service is top notch.

Someone earlier referred to this as the "Cleveland Carb" method - but Cleveland always needs mention!
