the ground glass only falls out if pulled on. as long as if your careful to not tug on the tubing, (not hard) it works as intended.

also i use the standard wand with my inline regularly. to clear it, i just pull the wand away. it doesnt take much to clear the tubing.

it just comes down to personal preferance. i like the hits of the standard wand better then the ground glass. i find i get more concentrated and flavorful hits then the gg wand, which starts tasting like popcorn alot sooner.

Interesting, does anyone else not use hands free with bong attachment? I was leaning towards GG but now i might just get ride the wave and hopefully never use it...

or i could get GG and exchange it if i dont like it...

this video shows bong without hands free options: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=809kC0oJqVo&feature=related

looks easy enough without hands free...i think ill just go without :)

I used an ice chiller from the seventh floor with out the hands free attachment and works fine. I have both types of wands the gg and standard. The gg produces larger "hits" compared to the standard wand. Do to the way the gg is made it heats up more bud at a time producing larger hits. My wife can't handle the larger hits from the gg without coughing and is fine with the standard. With the standard less of the bud is exposed to the heat and hits are more manageable. I like stir between hits so the hands free would be more of hassle to deal with than just holding the wand. Both wands are effective and work great. It's good to have a back up in case one breaks.

question: The spacer thingy under the heatercover... how much does it matter where exactly the top of that sits at? I took my heater cover off to examine what looked like a crack around the hole, and the little spacer sliver and the big spacer cap thing separated and i've been trying to get them back how they were (at least how i think they were) for the better part of the last half hour. :uhoh:

I have it on now, and the heatcover is tight, but the cap isnt sitting down as far as it used to because that little spacer piece isnt letting the cap slide all the way down. The big spacer/cap sits like a 1/4" higher up than it used to on the heating element. As i said, the heatercover is on tightly and positioned at the right height (so that it's got a little bit of room between the tip of it and the top of the heatcover), its just that spacer cap thats a bit higher, like , 1/4 inch or so below the intake hole. Its still below the part of the element that glows orange when in use though, so i'm thinking it should be ok for now.

I've tried getting it to sit back down at the righ height, but the only way i can do that is by removing that stupid little metal piece from the picture. Also, the heater cover is on so snugly that when i pull it off the spacer thing pulls off the element inside it and i have to use needle-nose pliers to get it out.

Same thing happened to my DBV....Leave well enough alone and just use it the way it or risk blowing a HC.

does anyone have any advice on how to minimize weed getting sucked in your mouth through the tube when you inhale?? i seem to be having to spit stuff out of my mouth everytime i try to get a hit.

@baurman I never get weed coming past the screen. your first draw when loading the wand sometimes youll get particulate. I'd recommend that you swap your screen out it must not be in right.

baurman...I get this all the time because I like to pack a bud in the bowl and then crush and stir as it gets crispy. My tube has tons of shit in it by now. I decided to hit it before placing it up to the element to get everything out of the path first. I'll curl my tongue up to catch all the shit as it comes into my mouth. If you like the taste of weed, you will like this. If not,you may just get used to it!

dont grind your stuff up as fine maybe. if you're grinding it to almost powder that could be why it sucks through. other than that, yeah check and make sure your screen fits in snugly. What I like to do is just break the stuff up into little chunks and vape it that way for a bit and then grind it up finer and hook up the bong. I usually like to have one standard whip with regular mouthpiece for vaping green chunks and another whip with bong adapter for the finer grinds. This way, my whip for freshness stays free of brown powder in the wand/tubing, and i can have the water catch the debris as well as take the harshness off the high temp vapes.

I have the bubbler attachment that 7th floor sells. This catches all the fine powder that comes through the tube. It is really nice. If you can afford the 100 bucks I highly recommend it.

Ya, this way works fine for me as well. Plus, you still have control of the wand to direct the air stream and makes it easier to stir between hits versus the GG connection.

i dont know if anyone else has discovered this yet. but i found the perfect way to vape wandhash in the ssv quite effeciently. by placing a cottonball in the empty wand (i used the cotton off the end of a 100% cotton qtip) and then dripping the hash oil onto the cotton, i was able to acheive very good results. all was vaped from the cottonball, and since cotton burns at 410 degrees F it should be safe at normal vape temps.

hmm, interesting. i think i'm going to stick with putting a bit of herb (fresh, or abv if i dont have any) under mine though.

Speaking of which, i'm about to harvest my first batch since i got my ssv, about 2 weeks ago. i'm sure it will be just like the stuff i got form the dbv's wand. Can't wait :brow:

Hey Xero, I was planning on getting a 250ml EHLE to compliment my SSV, and filter out the small particles that get in your mouth. I can't seem to justify spending money right now for the SSV water filter, but in the end, both of these products seem to deliver the same efficiency/results or no? Or should I look more into getting the water filter instead of the EHLE?

EHLE will serve you better in the long run because you can upgrade the downstem to a diffused on in the future, and some EHLE's come with ice-catchers, which the official ones dont. Havent used the 7th flr water filters, but they dont look like they'd be as stable if you set them down for a while either.

I really liked 7th floor ice / water filter for the matching look/color...but i went with ehle because it doesn't HAVE to be used with the vap, if i want to pass it around with friends or take it on the road i can...plus its cheap and great product (from what i hear).

well this was spawned out of necessity. i dont have any bud or abv for the matter, so thought of this as a way to hold the liquid so it doesnt drip down into the wand.

I recently bought the Volcano Liquid Pad for vaping oil, I had to cut it in half and shove it in there but it worked fantastic! Never clogged or dripped to low and let me vape the oil so nice. I recommend it for anyone who needs to vape oil or maybe even hash out of there vape. Before using it I was using bud or avb as a filter and the taste was unpleasant when the weed would get cooked but the oil was still valuable.

I had to tell the workers they had it at the local KK, took them awhile to find it but it was there.

Sweeeet I think I finally found the sweet spot on my SSV! I just exhaled soooo much thick, cloudy smoke-like vapor. Unbelievable. My knob is turned right around 2:00. I wonder if this is pushing it close to combustion with the smoke-like cloudy vapors?
I checked my bowl to make sure my bud wasn't black, and it's very lightly toasted but still showing signs of green.

baurman,

Lo

Combustion free since '09
Well now you know the sweet spot, if you push it much higher you'll see a tad of herb blackening and know you've gone too high (and then have to clean your wand).

I've noticed I can do a good bit of stirring and revaping bowls in the SSV, keep toasting that bud until your green is no longer visible. Good luck!

i can go up a little past 3 oclock on mine and still not have any sort of scorching. I usually start off a fresh bowl at around 1 oclock and hit it for all its worth there, then 2, then 3. This way, you kinda pull off little by little in smaller, but still visible and satisfying hits that are easier to hold in. This also helps make the bowls taste better for longer, something the SSV is already good at. Of course this isnt really necessary, you can just jump right in to vaping towards the higher end temps. You'll get huge powerful hits, but you'll be wasting a lot on exhale of course.

I def love my surfer.

I've been using my SSV for about 6 months now and every time i hit it it i feels like my first time i love it. Recently I've decided to try out the new spherical ground glass joint. I'm really hoping it works just as good if not better then the standard.

Anyone have any experience with this? Once it comes in ill report back and review how it is.

EDIT: Somehow they have a hands free attachment for this which i also bought, but i cant picture how it would work :/
